Wreckless 2 has been announced and Microsoft promises a high definition version of the game.
The original Double S.T.E.A.L. (Wreckless in America) was one of the most visually impressive titles for the early Xbox. So can we expect something similar for the game's recently announced sequel? Microsoft confirms a yes for that question. According to the company, Double S.T.E.A.L. The Second Clash will feature D4 support. And we all know what that means -- high definition output in a carnage-filled action game! Go check it out over at IGN (http://xbox.ign.com/articles/624/624045p1.html).

I loved the first!

I'm reading reviews of Wreckless right now, never having heard of it before. I was thinking about picking up Midtown Madness 3 to balance out all this Forza lately, but Wreckless is looking pretty compelling. Is the story really worth sitting through? (Caveat: I found Jade Empire's story to be less than engrossing and ended up trading it in after the disappointing twist.)

Wreckless is a really awful game. The Xbox version is very pretty, but all the missions have a time limit, which makes it very unforgiving. The PS2 version looks awful, but they fixed a few of the problems.
I really wouldn't recommend the game to anyone. If you're looking for an arcadey racer with great graphics and crash scenes, get Burnout 3 instead

Umm, whatever. Wreckless was a great game, although surely not without flaws. The freeform nature of the game could not be beat, and it's one of the first games I've ever played that actually gave you the feeling of a living breathing city that you were driving through. Burnout 3 is great, but you cannot go off the track, and there are no pedestrians around. Wreckless is visually impressive, and it has fun vehicles, I would definitely recommend checking it out, especially as cheap as it is now. Just wait until you unlock the tank, heh heh heh.

Wreckless lookked stunning on the xbox, and still does, but the game some what lacked, every mission was timed and pretty short at that, what would of made it much more successful would of been a free roam mode.

So - wait - this is for the Xbox or the X360?

I loved Wreckless. Story was crap. Worst cutscene animations ever. But the sense of blowing through a busy city at 130mph and the freaking AMAZING visuals was worth the price of admission.

I love posts that start with "umm, whatever"
If you want pedestrians, freeform missions and auto destruction, play Grand Theft Auto 3. GTA even includes some frustrating, timed missions for you.

Umm, whatever. There, with that out of the way :-) GTA graphics are pretty terrible, even in the new one, but it's obviously a better game overall. No one's trying to decide between one and the other though, the question was whether the original Wreckless is still worth checking out. I say that answer is yes.

Thanks for the comments all. Due to some unchecked impulsiveness I picked it up for $10 on my way home from work, before reading your responses. Don't worry, I've been playing Burnout 3 pretty consistently since September. I like my car destruction varied and nuanced.

You know, games with graphics like this really make me question the necessity of a new console. The screens are stunning.

Wreckless was one of the prettiest games I saw this generation, and one of the worst I played. Its timed gameplay often came down to "Catch up with the perfectly driven car and ram it while it goes in the same direction you are." Unless of course you were being asked to do platformer jumps...
