Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/06/08/news_6127196.html?part=rss&tag=gs_news&subj=6127196) has the details of the upcomign Lunar: The Silver Star sequel for the Nintendo DS. The game will make some interesting use of the DS hardware.Lunar Genesis takes advantage of the DS's hardware, letting players move around the map by just touching to the point where you want to go. The battle uses both the top and the bottom screens to show the enemies on the ground and in the air. One interesting feature is that players can order their characters to run away from battles with the DS's microphone. Whether the player can also order other battle commands via voice is currently unknown.
Sounds pretty good. Looks like some devs are actually trying new things with the DS hardware.

It's only a matter of time until a RTS game comes out for the DS

I believe they are already working on a version of Age of Empires for the DS.

Age of Empires will be turn based, it seems.

I love Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete... I still have the cloth map on the wall, and the instruction book beside my monitor right now. With this and titles like Dawn of Sorrow, I'm definately going to have to pick up a DS sooner or later.

I'd still rather see it on the PSP's screen, but at least they're using both well. I'd also like to see better hardware features than touching where I want to go and "telling it" I want to run away... but oh well. I look forward to when devs do actual innovate things with the DS's abilities, rather than silly add-ons.
If they said I could tap my way through the lengthy battle menus of the standard RPG like a PDA, that'd be slightly more interesting in my book.

I can't imagine a DS RPG that does not use the touch screen to navigate menus and item management. I suppose you COULD find someone who designs their menus to NOT use the Stylus, but so far every game I've seen for it allows you to move through menus with the stylus or your finger.

Sorry I dont see whats so exciting. It uses both screens, ok, every game i've played so far has. It uses the touch screen when convienient, allright i dont have to use the d-pad to control a cursor for a few seconds, instead I have to pull the stylus out just to use it for one tap. The microphone to run away? Instead of just selecting it from a menu like every RPG.

At first I hated the DS, and later I loved the PSP. Now I am starting to find love for the DS and Nintendo, while just shuffling my feet about the PSP. It's taken Nintendo a little too long to release quality games (like killer app material anyway) for the DS, but now they look set for the summer. But the GTA game on PSP will sway alot of my favor back too. So basically both systems have their pros and cons. Give me more RPG's on both systems and I will voluntarily look past said cons.

yeah..the only reason im evenr remotely interested is because it's Lunar. They made me love Sega CD, and I had to play both remakes when they came out on PS, and shit if they did it again i'd play them on xbox360. The stories are that great. very engaging.

I don't see why you wouldn't be holding it already. Unless you regularly put away your controller while playing games?

all i can say is, if they butcher this, I'm going to be really pissed off...I loved the LUNAR franchise since the Sega CD era, bought the PS1 remakes and enjoyed those even more, and to see such a promising title go down in flames will really ruin my day..

Personally I use my finger in most games for the touchscreen, I really don't see the fingerprints while the game is being played anyways, only once the screen shuts off. If the game requires the stylus, it's usually out all the time anyways, not just for inventory management.
I'm happy to see more games trying to utilize the different DS hardware features. Worst-case scenario is I end up with some new techniques in game control (assuming you read reviews before purchasing every PoS released on the market).
