Battlefield Nation is reporting (http://www.bfnation.net/more.php?i=297) via a video interview with producer Scott Evans that the upcoming (Friday) Battlefield 2 demo may be a Gamespot GameCenter exclusive.

Interviewer: [...] I want to ask you about the BF2 demo release, in June, with GameCenter.

Scott Evans: Yeah, you guys are gonna have an exclusive period on the demo where you have to go to GameCenter to get it, and we're releasing that demo in mid-June.

Mother. Fuckers. Guess we can all look forward to a glowing and drooling review of the finished game regardless of it's final quality. When will these websites/magazines realize that having 'exclusive' content only serves to leave them open to wild speculation and accusations of bias when they review the final game.

I offer you the US version of PC Gamer and their review of Doom 3 as evidence of the above.

I really do dislike 'exclusives' like this, because they do nothing for the community, infact they hurt it, I read in the PC forum a simlar thing happened with the Call of Duty demo and everyone refused to host, and in the end the publisher cracked..

I thought the point of a demo was to advertise the product. Wouldn't they want MORE people to have it rather than LESS.

I doubt this. XFire is already promoting the BF2 demo being available to download via their channel system when it becomes available.

The point of video game devs is to make money. When some company is willing to spend X number of dollars to get an exclusive for a few days then video game companies tend to take the money over being nice to their fans. Simple fact of life.

Actually, this is seldom done for straight up money, but in trade for marketing.

Hey turd brains... Even though I'm not subscribed to Gamecenter because I hate Gamespot... I can see where this makes sense. It gives Gamespot a way to offer their paying customers something useful for their money.
Or wait a second... Never mind... they are making them pay for something they could have gotten for free from BotTorrent if Gamespot didn't exist. hah :P Gullible fools who pay for that stuff.

:P

Exclusivity usually means a "cdkey" system, so you can seed the installer all you'd like, it's not going to do anything without a Gamespot Complete account.

Assuming you need a paying account to download. Who knows, maybe it will be available to everyone, and this is just a way for GSpot to pimp their new download system. But probably not.

Does anyone know if it's true that Battlefield 2 only runs on XP?

System Requirements:
(subject to change): Windows XP (Win 2000 and WinME not supported), Pentium 4 1.2 GHz CPU with 256 MB RAM, GeForce 3 (64 MB RAM) video card with DirectX 9 support, Broadband Internet connection, DVD-ROM drive

So... I still do not understand why BF2 is exclusive.

Is it for more advertising and PR?
Hell no, It's BF fucking 2, everyone knows about it and wants it.

Is it because.... EA\Dice are whorebags?
I think we got a winner here.

If they cared about community, they would let each of the major download sites get a copy (Fileplanet, Gamespot, 3dgamers, Filefront, Fileshack and all the other biggies) and then let it spread.

But no, it looks like EA has to do it the hands on way instead of just letting the net handle it.

First thing I honestly thought of after reading this?

"Awwwwww, bullshit!"

I was looking forward to snatching this demo up the moment it hit oxygen like a monkey tearing into a banana.

I mean...shoot...what a change of attitude considering the huge popularity and spread of the first BF1942 demo...

Relax, the game will be here soon enough.

First, there have been plenty of exclusive demos that werent available from torrents because they had a CD key or some other system to keep non-payers out.

Second, I'm sure they thought about this a lot longer than we have and decided why it was the best way to go. It might only be a week of exclusivity, so Gamespot promotes it more than they would a regular demo.

Also, believe it or not some people download demos on a whim and know very little about a game and end up buying it, or maybe they see it in the store and like the box, not everyone is as geeky as us.

Finally, a lot of the gamespot subscribers will download this regardless of what they know/like about BF2 just because it is exclusive, so they are getting the game to people who otherwise might not download it.

It probably doesn't need to be pointed out, but any body rabid enough of a fan to post in the comments section of a video game news page is most likely NOT going to be in the target demographic of said demo. Just my two cents.

I don't think that condition also excludes someone from being a smart consumer.

If I wasn't already a Complete member thanks to their superb E3 coverage, paying three quid for the demo, Gamecenter, and the rest of the site for a whole month is still an amazingly good bargain.

I am dying to try it out to see if it worth buying. I am a rabid gamer and will buy it if it brings something new to the table, the demo can encourage me to pre-order it now or wait for it to hit the bargain bin depending on what I see during said demo. I would think getting the demo out in large numbers would encourage large numbers of servers, hence more players and more word-of-mouth equalling better sales. Silly me with the money and love of video games to think a publisher would encourage me to buy their game by proving it is great, rather than a dud. My 0.02

I am rather undecided about buying this game. I have BF1942 and I really liked that game but I never really got into desert combat. Downloading the demo and trying it out this weekend probably would have been the deciding factor for me, but I'm not going to pay to be a Gamespot member just to try out a game. So...I don't know. I'm also planning on forking over $$ to preorder a 360, I heard that Gamestop is already sold out of their 1st shipment  so I better preorder so I can at least get mine in the 2nd shipment. Basically I don't know if it's worth it to me to spend the extra $50 on BF2 this month and that demo sure would have helped.
