This will be a combination of two press releases, so bear with me...
European release by JoWooD:
Vienna, Austria. March 15, 2007. Sam & Max, the legendary dog and rabbit crime-fighting stars that have been reintroduced to the gaming public with Telltale's downloadable episodic series Sam & Max: Season 1, are finally returning to retail stores worldwide beginning in August 2007.
Sam & Max aren't your average crime-fighting duo. Sam is a six-foot tall canine shamus with a love of justice. Max is hyperkinetic rabbity-thing with a taste for violence. Together, Sam & Max are the Freelance Police, ridding the streets of bottom-feeding sludge one dastardly miscreant at a time.
North American release by The Adventure Company

Both releases are scheduled to hit in August 2007.
Here's where I would normally say "more to follow...", but you get the gist, right?

Sign me up. I'm waiting for Season 1 to finish and then I'll grab them all at once and play them in a sitting.

I'm missing something.. isn't this two press releases announcing the exact same release... the first season of episodic content in retail box form?

Yeah, it is, but one's for Europe and the other for North America - different publishers, you see. I tried to be clear, I guess I phailed. :(

And I would say that Gametap is why Sam and Max is not as awesome as it should be.

i'm enjoying season 1. i would say that the episodes are a little easier now that i've gotten the hang of the puzzles. i'm hoping they throw a curveball for ep 5 gameplaywise. i don't have gametap so i just purchased the season from telltale (35 bucks or so) and i have the option of purchasing the whole season on cd for the cost of shipping at the end of it.

I have to agree, to an extent...
I've only gone through episode 1 and about half of 2...but they just seem so much tamer now than they used to.
I can't quite place my finger on it, but they things they say and do just feel more...forced and kid-friendly than they were in the Lucasarts game or the old comics.
My major beef is that Max hasn't brutally beaten anyone yet. Brutal acts of senseless violence is his forte.

This series completely deserves a retail version.
Sam&Max rocks. While 1st and 2nd episodes were good fun, the 3rd episode was very good (although still a bit too easy) and most recently the 4th episode, Abe Lincoln Must Die, has been the most awesome episode yes. The White House humor was brilliant with Secret Service bouncer - Agent Superball.
" - Wouldn't you rather be somewhere else than guarding this door?"
" - Yes actually, a cottage vacation in the mountains, with wife and children, and thick doors to guard."
Voice acting has been top-notch with Mobsters of Ted. E. Bear's Mafia-free casino in 3rd ep. to the monotonous, robot-like secretservice in 4th ep.
And the top quote from ep. 3:
Sam: "Well, look at that, they've finally gone and put anti-depressants in the gumball machine."
Max: "How depressing."
The episodic content does show in that most of the whole cast returns every episode, with almost completely same role as in the previous one. Bosco, while trying to be different, is extremely similar between episodes. Also, have learnt to hate Soda Poppers with passion. It's a bit dissapointing to visit the same place for the 4th time and knowing what to expect...

OK, you can skip Ep 3 if you want...Episode 4 is the money shot.

Yeah, that is just Telltale, and I don't blame Gametap for that. I just hate that the Gametappers get it early.

I love the new Sam and Max, and have to say that it's about as rough as the original, which I replayed in anticipation. I remembered it as being more ridiculous than it was because I was younger and it was newer, I guess. Anyway, my quibbles with the new Sam and Max are purely technical, I actually appreciate the somewhat easier puzzles (that actually make sense).

Hell, they really need to just bring a bunch of point and click adventures to the Wii. I've said it before and I'll say it again, but the system would be great for that genre.
