Arnold Drake, creator of the Doom Patrol, died at the age of 83 from pneumonia and septic shock.
A writer of comics since the 1940s, Arnold Drake is the creator of Beast Boy and Stanley & his Monster, characters who like Drake's Deadman and Doom Patrol have entertained readers for decades in countless appearances and several series authored by Drake himself and, later, by new generations of creators he inspired. Besides his work with Little Lulu, the X-Men and even Jerry Lewis, Drake wrote in 1950 one of if not the first American graphic novel, "It Rhymes with Lust," which Dark Horse Comics is set to re-release this month.
Mark Evanier has also posted an obiturary (http://www.newsfromme.com/archives/2007_03_12.html#013083) on his site.

Another truly original creator is lost. He'll be missed, but his work will live on.

Crap! And I wouldn't even know about the Doom Patrol if it weren't for Teen Titans Animated Series.

RIP Arnold Drake.

Always the good ones....

RIP Arnold Drake

Without Doom Patrol - the original "outsider heroes" - things like X-men would never have happened. Stan took a mighty inspiration there. Before his time, Drake changed the notion of the hero. DP all had horrible abnormalities. But they stood proud.

Surely they could take a Liefeld instead....
(not seriously - death is not funny, unless simulated)
