View Full Version : Let the PSP ports begin!!!!
If you thought ports were just for nintendo handhelds, Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com) reports that Capcom is porting two PS1 titles, Megaman Legends and Breath of Fire 3 (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/06/06/news_6126991.html) , to the PSP.
It's unclear whether the two games will be direct ports of their original PlayStation releases in 1997 or feature some new addition or arrangements.
Megaman Legends huh? Well as long as we're porting mediocre PS1 games how about Nightmare Creatures and Deathtrap Dungeon.

Awww, that's cold. I liked the Megaman Legend games. As long as you're not paying too much money for them, that is. That and the Misadventures of Tronne Bonne were cool in their own way. Again, at $20 a piece the measure of cool is different than for $50. And BoF3 was pretty cool. I liked it better than any of the other ones I played (never got around to the most recent one).
So what I'm saying is, if they enhance these titles and sell them at a decent price (not full price), it just might make me think a little harder about getting a PSP.

Don't forget to throw in Jumping Flash!
Hell, even the GBA could pull that off. :D
(disclaimer - I enjoyed Jumping Flash)
A GBA could not do Jumping Flash. That game was actually pretty advanced . And awesome.

this was inevitable. Especially from Capcom. They like pimping their sub-par Breath of Fire franchise. The first two were rereleased on the GBA not too long ago. Not bad games but definitely lacking compared to other RPG series. Dragon Quarter was their last new game, and it wasnt a true BoF game IMO. A spinoff or alternate universe maybe, but it didnt feel like a sequel.

Megaman Legends is the best thing to ever happen to Megaman. I cry a little inside every time they release a new X game, worse than the ones before it, and don't get me started on those Pokemon styled Mega Man games..

Hey. Megaman Legends rocks. I love that game, it's so full of personality and fun characters.
And Breath of Fire? While I'll be the first to admit they're no Final Fantasy, they're a solid RPG franchise that's always good for some fun.
I'd rather see them on the system than another lame fighter. Or racing game.

Just thank them for not bothering with the second Legends. I feel that the sequel really lost a lot of the great flavor that the first one had. And I didn't care for the story.
(Enjoyed the first Legends, but I really think someone derailed the second.)

Agreed. The originals were good and I really liked BoF3 and BoF4. It would be nice to be able to play them again on a portable unit. A definate purchase for me

I think megaman ledgends is great and deathtrap dungeon while it did "suck" in a few minor ways i thought that the game was great pretty much. No real dungeon games are made anymore.

I hated Megaman Legends. As a Megaman fan, I consider it to be the begining of the end for good megaman games.

What exactly did you hate about it, and to state the obvious, it was not a 2d shooter game.

Ok yes it was not a 2d shooter game. I agree that putting megaman into 3d might be a good move for the series but this particular game was very lame. The controls were attrocious, the levels were the very definition of bland, and the enemies were quite boring. The story and general anime feel of the game may have saved it for some but did absolutely nothing for me other than make me anxious to get to the action.

Mega Man Legends had the personality of a geisha girl, giggling and giddy air heads, prancing around til the showed you their gashes, and since they were girls, it made you feel uncomfortable and ackwards; that it was your favorite franchise being bastardized like the horrid cartoon had already bastardized it several times over.

While i cannot argue that the controlls could of been better or that the level design was barren on the majority of areas but still i found it very good rpg wise with upgrades and all the side quests. Have you played the second installment of the game. I find they have improved the controlls alot more and well im not going to lie the story line is that great either but its better than the first with Tron bon and all that crap. They also improved in many many ways the places you visit and the enemys you fight are more varried. If you're a true fan pick them both up but if your interested in a good classis get megaman ledge. 2 or even tron bon which is also good but neeeds to be longer. :P call me a megaman fanboy

Well, hopefully they'll be charging less than the current 40-50 bucks. Breath of Fire 3 was a pretty good game. Not as good as the all-time great PS1 rpg - Wild Arms....but still pretty good.

So you didn't like the controls, level design, or story but it was a good RPG because you could upgrade stuff and go on sidequests? Is gaining exp really all it takes to keep you playing an RPG? That is truly sad.

I am having trouble finding anything about the Playstation version of the title, but I did find a review of the PC version.
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/megamanlegends/review.html
In short, the description of the PC version may very well apply to the PSP version as well.
Simply have a read through the summary...Mega Man Legends is an unembellished port of a forgettable 3-year-old PlayStation game. If you're a big Mega Man fan, chances are you own a PlayStation and, therefore, have no compelling reason to buy Mega Man Legends for the PC. Those who aren't familiar with Capcom's Mega Man series can also skip this game, because it's very old and not especially fun for the 35 long hours it takes to finish. In closing, while there are still many issues that divide us, this is not one of them. Thank you and good night.
Score: 3.2 / 10 - BAD

I think you misread me but w/e, In my opinion the game was a fine action rpg that had many good and memorable parts to the game. Atleast for me anyways, i found the game enjoyable and thats all i want for my money. For upgrading it was pretty cool, instead of just buying a +? (1,2,3) gun every time, the game made you find random items. Once you found enough items you went to your friend and she tries to make a new invention and all of the items (upgrades) you can make are very usful. I changed my mind about the story line, while it is somewhat weak at the beginning because their ship gets crashed on the island and all your focused about is fixing your ship things get better once you are asked to start clearing out the Ruins. All in all i think you are either expecting way to much so that way your expectations would never be fufilled or you just dont realize a good quazi action rpg that was cellshaded in ways.

Rock and Roll.
Megaman / Rockman has been around forever. The little blue guy was first released on the NES way back when 8-bit graphics and side scrolling gameplay ruled. There have been innumerable versions of Megaman and his friends over the years, including Megaman X, Megaman (Rockman) Racing, and tons more. But there still has yet to be a three dimensional Megaman.
This is especially surprising considering how long people have been doing 3D on the PlayStation and Nintendo 64 and just how popular Megaman is. But now, finally, with Megaman Legends, Capcom has taken Megaman into the third dimension with good results.
First of all, traditional Megaman fans should know that Megaman Legends isn't your normal Megaman. It isn't really a three-d version of the two-d side scroller. In fact, Legends is more of an adventure/RPG. In this game, Megaman is a "Digger", or an adventurer searching for the "Mother Lode" treasure.
Diggers the world over are looking for the treasure, and Megaman hopes he can be the first to find it so that he doesn't ever have to work again.
The planet that he lives on is covered by water though, there are only a few small patches of land, so you have to fly around from place to place. Lots of the game takes place traveling between different islands. The story sets up a good RPG, and the large fully explorable world is perfect for an adventure game. Megaman Legends combines the two genres well.
Megaman Legends also doesn't look like old-school Megaman either. Instead of the anime appearance from before, Legends has a highly stylized polygonal look. It's not futuristic, nor is it dark. The graphics are bright like Mario 64, but they are way more blocky. However, in Megaman's place, this isn't half bad. The blocky graphics actually create a great sense of style that is consistent all the way through the game. One of Legends' high points are the graphics, and deservedly so - Capcom has done a great job.
Control in Megaman Legends is a little odd - the D-pad works like Resident Evil while the L1/R1 buttons allow you to strafe left and right. The R2 button works as a enemy lock-on, a welcome function in the 3D world. It would be incredibly hard to actually hit enemies without this feature, and the way the camera works would certainly create confusion. While the controls aren't the easiest to learn, after you master them, they allow for some precise maneuvering. Just like the old Megamans, Legends also has great control.
The gameplay of both regular combat, fantastical bosses, as well as RPG and adventure fit the Megaman franchise well.
The sound also makes a good impression. Unlike too many RPG's, you dont have to read miles and miles of text, all of the main characters have voices! It makes the game more immersive, less annoying, and is something all games should do nowadays with CD consoles.
The maps that you travel around in are laid out in a manner that allows for much exploration but is also pretty straight forward so you don't get lost. If you ignore every little nook and cranny you can still beat the game but you will not find every item and upgrade. The way that Capcom created the levels to hide secrets shows their mastery of level design - something they were also extremely successful at in Resident Evil.
There are some rough edges though - the game is too hard and frustrating at points and the gameplay can become repetitive if you can't figure out what you are supposed to do. But for the most part, if you like Megaman or like adventure games - Legends is a solid pick.

The original Wild Arms, not the sequels which were about God only knows...
Edit: And there are many correct PSX ports. I hated these two game, though.
