World Of Warcraft Launches In China

Blizzard Entertainment (http://www.blizzard.com/) today announced that World of Warcraft, its massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), has officially launched in China.

Players in China can now download the game, create accounts and experience the epic adventure of the Warcraft series in an immersive and continually evolving online environment. A friend of mine from the US now lives in and teaches English in China. Anyone know if they'll be able to download the software there and play on US servers? Is it tied to billing? Something else?

On topic, I prefer reading or sitting here and doing nothing over playing WoW. For some reason WoW felt more like a job than any other game I've played. Maybe it's all those stupid "bring this beer to guard joe" or "kill xxxxs until you have 10 yyyys" quests.

Honestly, I'm not sure how WOW will do in China. The Chinese market is the wild west of MMORPGs, and they already have a few insanely popular locally produced games. Also, the Chinese have their own fantasy-type genre that is completely different from the dungeons-and-dragons based worlds of Western RPGs.

WoW is a really well put together MMORPG that brings nothing new of any significance to the genre. Had fun for a couple months playing, but after the third time trying an instance where I spent 2+ hours and wiped because people either stink or leave I decided to call it quits.
