I truly enjoyed Zodiac. My wife and I went to see it and both thought it was great. Kept you interested the entire time.
Everyone else at the theater seemed to be more interested in Wild Hogs.

My advice, see "The Number 23" if you're with a bunch of friends and like going to movies that you can make fun of. This is a horrible film that should never have made it past the script reading stage. Jim Carrey's performance is respectable (minus a scene near the end in a hotel room with his wife... let's just say that Jim's range of emotion seems limited). This movie is only good for the sake of ridiculing it.
I didn't expect much, and I got even less than those expectations.

Wow, from the previews Wild Hogs looked like a steaming pile of shit.

I too saw Zodiac. I expected much different, but it was still worth a see nonetheless. It was almost done as a procedural synopsis of the case events, like documentary. Not the thriller I originally thought.

Zodiac was excellent, truly. Awesome performances, great story (obviously), and some good chilling moments. It's way more documentary style than I think some people might expect, but it really, really works. There are a few "Fincher" moments, but for the most part he keeps it pretty simple where directorial style is concerned.
But Mark Ruffalo totally blew me a away in this movie. He was flat-out excellent. I mean, completely. In a movie with so many good actors I expected him to kind of blend in, but it was exactly the opposite. Great performance.
Highly recommended.
edit: OMG! My post on Zodiac was #666

Man Wild Hogs totally wrecked house in my Fantasy Moguls league. Who would've thought this film would make $$$ and hover at 6.X on IMDB? XP

God, Ghost Rider is so awful. Like, worse than the Spawn movie awful. The effects aren't even good. Why is it that a piece of shit like that can make $94 million?
I'm glad I didn't have to pay for the few minutes of it I caught while at work. I sorta feel like they should pay me for having seen that.

I'm glad black snake moan is doing bad. Christina Riche is in my top 5 list for hottest people on the planet, but any movie made about slavery/slaves of any color should get flushed down the toilet before rev all sharpton goes on another idiodic crusade.

Considering that the film is by no means anywhere near mainstream, it shouldn't be surprising...
Regardless, This week I get to see 300 in IMAX!

Do you have any clue as to what Black Snake Moan (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0462200/) is about? Let me give you a hint.. it's not about slavery.

I thought Zodiac was exceptional.
(It creeped me out even more since I currently live in San Francisco, and my hometown is a five minute drive from Santa Rosa.) :p

I heard that "Zodiac" is pretty much a video version of Robert Graysmith's book of the same name. Any truth to that? I've read the book, and thought it was awesome. It was the only non-fiction serial killer book I've ever gotten into.

The director of Hustle & Flow did Black Snake Moan, so I'll give this one a chance.
The music director at our college station just randomly gave me the 300 soundtrack saying he was going to throw it out anyway. So now I've got some theme music to get me amped up.
Zodiac is definitely not what you'd expect - it's not about the crimes, but how everyone copes with them, with the killer's elusiveness, with people living in fear. You can see that Fincher is starting to mature as a director; I was worried for a while that he was going to go the Schumacher/Tony Scott route.

You know, one would think that you would know how to spell the name of someone on your top 5 list for hottest people on the planet. It may do you some good to actually read up on what the movie's about also.
I'm not surprised Wild Hogs did well over the weekend. A family-ish comedy about middle aged guys getting bikes and hitting the road debuting at the start of bike week. Not surprising at all.

I can't speak to this directly, but I know that most of the materials I have read about the film seemed to indicate that it stuck pretty close to Graysmith's book. How close I have no idea, but the pacing and utter completeness with which Fincher seems to obsessively strive for says that he didn't stray too far. I have also read that Fincher did a lot of his own research and winged a few of his ideas in there as well. I haven't read Graysmith's book though, so I can't say for sure.

Yeah, and it's too bad (http://www.zodiackillerfacts.com/graysmith.htm). As a movie, it's pretty good, but don't expect it to have any more "truth" in it than Oliver Stone's JFK did.

Then again, hope means nothing in Hollywood. I hoped Ghostrider would bomb, as I do most shitty movies.

Good lord, man. Neither. I mean you might as well compare Strawberry Shortcake or a snowman to those two. There is just no comparison at all, period.
Both Leonidas and Xerxes were astonishing rulers, but both of them would have laughed at the modern views of any American leader. The bit in the trailer about "a new age - an age of FREEDOM" made me laugh. Oh. Please. Give me a fucking break. Freedom my ass - he would have been talking about the glory and pride of battle, and the good will of the gods, not about freedom.
Pfft. Leonidas was no William Wallace.

I thought the "age of freedom" thing was funny considering the Spartans themselves owned slaves.

It's just something Miller shoehorned in. I love Frank, but that bit don't fit. At least he's doing his part to stand up on our side as an artist in our war of ideas.

On the same note, it is Frank Miller so all you should expect is something very entertaining, and probably whores.

True. While their freedom wasn't universal, they were still unique in the fact that spartan "citizens" had rights that could not be taken away without due process. Now, this was pretty much true of most of the greek city states. The Spartans weren't unique in that.

Careful, running time of Zodiac is 2 hours and 40 minutes. I love a good movie as much as the next guy, but we've got a long way to go before the comfort of theater viewing matches that of my couch!
All aesthetic issues aside, the girlfriend and i caught zodiac on friday and it was fucking excellent. The comments regarding the performances of the ensemble cast are spot on, kudos to all the actors. I thought a good 20 minutes might have been edited out, by Fincher was adamant about needing that much time to cover what was actually a 35 year case.
PseudoPseudo -In response to the question about the movie's similarity to the book by Graysmith, the answer is yes - the script is based directly from his novel, and the tail end of the film focuses entirely on Graysmith's... dedication to the case.

I'll have to check out Black Snake Moan at some point - I hadn't heard of it before now and it looks interesting.
I really want to see Zodiac. I have next Tuesday off so I'll probably go then - I love going when hardly anyone else is in the theatre. I may also get the net at home that day, woohoo!
I haven't even heard of 300 - the way you guys talk about it makes me ashamed of this. I'll have to check out a trailer the next time I'm online outside of work.
