Somebody who read Famitsu posted on the Nintendo.com Forums the supposed list of all the games available for download on the revolution. That's 221 titles (http://forums.nintendo.com/nintendo/board/message?board.id=revolution&message.id=95136) across NES, SNES, N64, N64DD, and Satteleview, both 1st party and 3rd party games too. No mention whether or not the downloads are free.

I'de like to see this type of list formarly confirmed/released by the big N themselves.

#197 Sin and Punishment.

Sweet...

Rare is a Microsoft company now and that means no Perfect Dark and that further means this list is fake.

And that makes me angry and sad.

This isn't from Famitsu BTW. They only said there are 221 Nintendo-published games in history.

So some guy on Nintendo.com messageboards (avoid, just like TeamXbox) went and compiled HIS list of 221 Nintendo-published games. He made some obvious mistakes:

- Catroot and Riqa were NEVER released (not even in JPN).
- he "forgot" about dozens of Nintendo games published ONLY in Japan like Castle of Murasame, Time Twist, Detective Club, Detective Club 2, Mario Excitebike etc.

So - bogus. We don't know anything yet - which games and at what price. That list a fanboy dream, that's all.

I guess it was too much to hope they'd include Chrono Trigger on the list. I never got to play Sin & Punishment, but I heard nothing but great things about it. It'd be awesome if this was the real list...

Wow... this site is REALLY going down hill. I mean posting "news" from Spong.com was bad enough, but this shit here is beyond the pale.

NOA veep George Harrison seems to have indicated that older Nintendo games will be free: http://gamesradar.msn.co.uk/news/default.asp?pagetypeid=2&articleid=36071&subsectionid=1587 I hope that's the case.

Well, I can confirm this 'rumor'.

My brother's sister's boyfriend's maid's pool cleaner heard it in the park when he was petting some girl's Nintendog pug.

I must have lost Sin and Punishment on ebay 4 or 5 times... All the damn auctions finish at 4amish Australian time so I could never be there to bid at the last minute. I really hope it's downloadable.
Whether or not this list were true, I wonder how the database will work across countries. Will US revolution users have access to Japanese games? I'm probably getting a JPNS revolution anyway, as it's likely to be the first out, but I wonder then if the Japanese players can join US servers for downloads/multiplayer. I hope so...

Bydo beat me to it, but yes, I thought it was already announced that they were going to be free...hmmmm....Regardless the thing I'm seeing here is (depending on if these downloads are available at launch) that this service would give the Revolution the largest launch library out of all the next-gen systems.

Weren't Rares games published by Nintendo?

Yes, but Rare owns the IP. The assets for both Conker and Perfect Dark are the property of Rare, and by extension, the property of Microsoft. This is one of the things I was worried about. Unless Nintendo is willing to pay major royalties, and thus, charge for the games, many classic third party titles will certainly be unavailable. Thus, I am expecting the downloadable games to be very in house heavy, and not as close to a complete list as some people seem to be expecting.

I'm not sure how intellectual property rights work. If just because nintendo published a game in the past do they have the right to release it forever. I know games like NHL Stanley Cup require the NHL liscense which is now owned by EA. So is the James Bond liscense so what does that mean for Goldeneye? The Dragon Warrior liscense is owned by Square-Enix. I'm pretty sure LucasArts owns the Indiana Jones liscense. Hudson Soft owns the Bomberman liscense. Namco owns the Popeye liscense. I have no idea who owns the Flinstones liscense. Can Nintendo release these games without having to pay a fee?

Well, here is something to think about: the list is valid and you can tell something about the revolution's controller or at least a few titles on that list are wrong. I say this because of the inclusion of Duck Hunt, Yoshi's Safari and Super Scope 6 which, I believe, all require a controller with an IR sensor. So either these games can't be on the list or the the controller will have an IR sensor.

Star Tropics is on the list; awesome. No Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy III; bummer.

I could be wrong, but I think that Nintendo as a publisher has the right to continue pumping out and selling GoldenEye N64 cartridges indefinitely. Now, if they alter the code in any way and attempt to sell it again, that may cause a problem. But if it's straight emulation of the old code offered for free online, maybe that's kosher. Then again, I'm just pulling this out of my butt, so I have little to no grounds for these assumptions.

Too bad it's fake, I was all excited by the idea of playing Animal Forest. I want to see my favorite games roots!

N64DD? Never thought I'd see that acronym again.

Though not as obscure as 3D0's M2.

Don't underestimate Nintendo's ability to get the IP right's to certain games when they published.

Nintendo was notorious for getting the rights to the game if they published it. Even if MS does own it now, Nintendo probably still has some rights to the game.

I'm not sure what took place during their negotiations when Rare started making nintendo games, but I do know that Nintendo got the right's to a majority of the games (back in nes/snes/n64 days) they published unless it was a big company who had a lot of weight to throw around. This is part of why a lot switched from Nintendo (to Sony in N64 era), because Nintendo wanted to eat the rights up with it.

Oh god, I haven't heard of the 3D0 M2 since I read some magazine article about it years ago. I was so excited for it to come out. I waited and waited and waited -- then Playstation/N64 came out and I didn't care anymore.

You know, they could make the light-gun and super scope games work if the new Revolution controller uses a gyroscope for control.

My friend has a Gyration mouse that he uses for his media PC. I could see playing light-gun games with it.

I wouldn't mind getting some of those delicious Japanese releases for the US, but it would be an extremely dubious assumption that someone is going to go in and translate them. Such as the Fire Emblems.

Rare owns the rights to the Perfect Dark IP, but Nintendo owns the rights to the Perfect Dark game published on the N64. That means as long as they don't change the game in any noticeable way, they can re-publish it in any form charging as much or as little as they prefer indefinitely. The same truth holds for any game published by Nintendo where the rights to the IP belong to another company.

I wonder when Nintendo is planning to put the hype machine in gear? Being oblique and secretive doesn't seem to be hurting them too much thus far.

Well, first of all, they'd actually have to rewrite the games to do that. There's nothing stopping them from doing so, but frankly I don't see how a gyroscope would work any better for gun games than a standard analog controller -- you couldn't simply point the controller at the target, you'd have to tilt it in the direction of the target (making sure you tilt it just the right amount and in just the right direction), which sounds like it would be incredibly awkward to me.
