2007 Most Wanted Games, Day 2 : PlayStation 3

The PlayStation 3 hasn't had the most stellar software showing so far. But by God, that's about to change in a big, big way.

For someone who already owns a PS3, it has a solid lineup for '07 that should satisfy. The problem is that it's not a lineup that's really going to draw people to the system, which is what the PS3 really needs right now. The PS3 needs 2 or 3 excellent exclusive games before I'll really be compelled to put down my $600. MGS4 will probably be the first, I'm still waiting to see when the other two will materialize.

Motorstorm is published by SCEA. The only other platform you'll being seeing this franchise is the PSP.

First time I ever heard of this rumor. This is one of those games that will not leave PS3 (maybe for psp), its like 360's Halo not going anywhere else except (windows).

Strange. That list woke me up to the fact that I am much more excited about the xbox360 games. I saw only 2 games on this list that I can imagine wanting or that arn't multiplatform. The more I think about it the more I feel MS is doing a wonderful job of taking MANY of the old exclusive games and offering them on a system much cheaper.

That's a good list there. Other than Singstar, but that's just me personally. Bioshock is also rumored to be going multiplatform, but we'll see about that. And yeah, GDC should have some interesting announcements. It seems a bit early in the year yet to be putting a list like this together.

After seeing those videos of The Darkness recently (on PS3 and 360) I think that game should be on this list. Same developers as Chronicles of Riddick so it has a great chance of being something special. Heavenly Sword should be there too. I have more interest over those games over, say, Warhawk.

I'd be interested in checking out Assasin's Creed, Army of Two, MGS4, GTA4, Motorstorm and Stanglehold. MGS4 and Assasin's Creed are the most interesting to me.

Well I know one good game that hasn't been confirmed for a US release yet. Its called Gundam Musou, and its essentially Dynasty Warriors with Gundams. Since the PS3 has no region protection, I'm getting a copy of the japanese version friday.

That's why it's not on that list, cause it's a port of Black (maybe with some new/reworked levels here and there) with super duper upgraded graphics to make the slime on what's her name's cleavage really shine!

But hey, if you missed it the first two times around, by all means enjoy. Just don't be bitching about paying 60 bucks for a port of a rerelease though, you had plenty of warning.

How the heck did the new Rachet & Clank not make this list? It's by far my most anticipated game on the system this year. Actually, outside of Mario Galaxy, it is probably my most anticipated game this year for any platform. And Heavely Sword and Naughty Dog's game both look far more interesting than WarHawk.

2. You'd kind of have to be an idiot if you have a 360 and bought a PS3 now just for the games. Like people have said, 5 are multiplatform, 2 are possibly multiplatform, and 1 has been bordering on cancellation and may now be download only.

So Lair and Motorstorm are the only sure exclusives retail titles on that list. Neither of which I'm that excited about.

And yeah, I would put a Ratchet and Clank game on there (well above Lair anyway), but I'm not sure its coming out this year. I mean, have we seen any actual in-game shots or media from that yet?

No, but there is suppose to be a huge story on it in next month's EGM and Insomniac has consistently released a new game every single year for the last five years in a row now. Odds are it will make it's release window just as Ratchet 1-4 and Resistance did.

I usually don't mean to be defending Sony, but does Warhawk becoming a download-only game in any way reduce its quality? If it's a good game, it should be good whether I buy it on a disk or onliune.

The only thing that somewhat has me sold for ps3 is gran turismo HD. that game looks AMAZING! the only way i'd buy it though is if they made all new tracks and cars, playing 4 in HD isnt that great to me, being already beatin it. And ill be suprised to see MGS4 stay on the PS3 and not the 360. i see it coming microsoft's way soon after the PS3 release.

I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that we'll be seeing MGS4 come out this fall. My guess is that we'll see it go up against Halo 3. I mean, what other title of that caliber does Sony have? None. I'd bet the proverbial farm that we see those two go head to head this fall.

FFXIII clearly isn’t. And personally I think MGS4 will slip to 2008, but at least they set a date in 2007 which let them get on this list. I haven't heard anything of Heavenly Sword for ages.

I agree with you that the PS3 is getting a pretty good lineup of multiplatform games. It has a few exclusives, mostly by Sony themselves, but the 360 is getting significantly more this year in the way of games in general as well as exclusive games. It doesn't help that the system's $100-$200 more than the 360. I don't really see the PS3 outpacing the 360 this Christmas with those games to go up against Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Blue Dragon, etc. It also doesn't help that Capcom is doing so well on the 360 and will probably bring DMC4 over there as you mentioned.

I'd probably buy DMC and MGS if I owned a PS3, but I won't buy a PS3 just to play those exclusives. The rest is out on 360 anyway and the other ones I don't really care for. (I think Lair will actually suck).

Only the big RPG's which probably take a year or 2 anyway to arrive can convert me to PS3. In the meantime I'll happily play Okami, GoW 2 and dozens of obscure PS2 RPG's and await some more original exclusives like Blue Dragon Mass Effect and Bioshock on 360.

The only thing that would have a direct impact on the quality of the game is the limit to the file size. While Sony has no set in stone limit like XBL, your typical DVD9 game is just impractical with today's bandwidth and storage, let alone something that would fill a Bluray disk. If Warhawk becomes download only I would expect it to weigh in between 500mb and 1gb. In order to get down to that size, they will certainly have to cut some content out. The rumor is that there will no longer be a single player campaign and it will be MP only.
