Over at TeamXbox (http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/12836/ESRB-Reveals-New-Xbox-Live-Arcade-Games) there is some information out that Wing Commander may be coming as an Xbox 360 or XBLA title from Electronic Arts. They also mention Double Dragon (Editor's Note: This was previously confirmed) and since both games has been approved by ESRB it is said that it should not be too long before we see them playable.

Sorry for the broken html code, can't find anyplace to edit it either. Someone fix please?

Oh and I do hope to see Tie Fighter and Duke Nukem 3D on XBLA soon to, probably my favourite classic games from all times.

just copy/paste the text into the browser and it'll still work.

can anyone tell me whether xbla games have any kind of a preview before you buy? or is it just a crapshoot? how do they have it setup in that regard.

Ah I missed the obivous edit button oh well now it's fixed, thx for the tip :)

drakkarim all XBLA games ( UNO and Texas Hold Em ) I have bought have had free trials so you can test them out for a short period of time before you have to buy them.

ALL XBLA games have free trials... it is a requirement for XBLA validation.

arooo?!?! A Wing Commander game?!?!?

Wow... That was one of, if not, my favorite game series of all time... but what the hell is "arena"?

Wing Commander is one retro game I wouldn't mind paying top dollar for.

I assume that this would be a port of the SNES version, rather than the PC title(s), but boy, I'd love to be wrong. An XBLA edition of WC/WC2 and the secret mission packs would be an instant purchase for me.

Does this include Wing Commander 2?

So now we only have how many confirmed and "close to release" games in the pipeline, but still only one game (usually) a week? They might need to rethink their release strategy. I understand they don't have the massive catalog that Nintendo has to draw from or anything, but they should seriously consider stepping up the pace.

Would people really be disappointed if there were a relative deluge of releases followed by a longer period of nothing if we got some of the top-notch and original titles to hold us over during that period? Personally, I would rather have many games vying for and holding my attention over the course of several weeks while waiting for something new than have to sit through weeks of titles I don't care about (e.g., 80s arcade ports that look like crap).

Granted, they probably don't want to compete with their disc-based games and all, but even with titles unopened from Christmas, I hardly fire up my 360 these days. I wonder if I'm just getting burnt out?

Edit: On topic, Wing Commander and Double Dragon were both solid titles back in their day. I'm not big enough on the nostalgia thing when it comes to repurchasing games, so I doubt I'd get either. But it's cool to see something other than an arcade port.

It's good to see that there are some more quality titles coming to XBLA...that is, if they ever release anything...

I'd love to see Elder Scrolls 1 & 2 make it onto XBLA... maybe I'm just old fashioned...and what about some Monkey Island Madness, or Grim Fandango...... sure it will be more GameTap/Steamesq then what we know as XBLA, but thats cool.

Gimmie s'mo!

Fuck yes I'd buy Wing Commander on XBLA. I've always been extremely annoyed at myself that I didn't buy the Kilrathi Saga edition that was reworked to run properly on Win95 at normal speeds. Wing Commander was the first game that "made" me upgrade a component in my computer; I bought an AdLib soundcard for my 8Mhz 286 w/ an EGA graphics card.

Only if MS allows me use a kbd like in the PC version.
If it's the SNES version, they can suck it.

No numbnuts...you are still watching. If I wanted to just watch, I would play a Metal Gear.

Wadmassi nailed it with the first two words of his post.

Fuck. Yes.

I am a very avid WC fan, and have been ever since I first played WC as a young lad of 12 years old. Was my first experience with PC gaming and when I finally got my own PC (when I was 14... Pentium 100, 16MB of ram, MASSIVE and UNFILLABLE 2GB hard drive) I went back and played WC, secret missions, WC2, privateer (ugh), and then got WCIII for the 3DO and it just went on from there.

I am praying it's not a port of the SNES one, but actually for what it was the SNES one was playable and pretty good.

Anyone remember Super Wing Commander for the 3DO? The debriefings were awesome. "You shot down... (insert 3 seconds of disc access) three... (more disc access)... of them."

286-12mhz, VGA, and I added an extra 512k, so I was able to see the kilrathi talk to me...oh yeah and it also added a hand holding a flight stick...that was really worth it!!

I made the jump to VGA in part because of WC. I remember seeing the "recommended" CPU of 12 MHz on the box and was very concerned about my 286-12 being able to handle it, so I posted to a Prodigy bboard over my 2400 baud modem to find out. Times have changed...

But the box art still looks great... (with requirements sticker)

I've been playing Double Dragon off of partner net for a few days now and I gotta say, it's pretty faithful. Ahh.... the memories.

I still hold bitterness towards EA for cancelling Privateer Online.

I am filled with dread that EA is going to fuck up the multiplayer networking like they have so many times before. For the love of god, leave well enough alone and quit foisting your servers onto Live! I'd rather not have to brave Damnation Alley just to link up with the same buddies I've played on literally every other non-EA title without hitch.

Looks like Space Wars / Asteroids meets Homeworld.

Here's hoping... but will Mark Hamill be in it?

privateer (ugh)

Them's fighting words! Privateer was my favorite of the WC series, the last true WC game in the series IMHO. Before they went all "let's make a movie!", what bullshit that was.

What other game do you know of you could trade in slaves?! Hell I just blew up merchants ships just to tractor beam in their pilots and sell them at pirate bases.

Only two? Not trying to flame, but I thought more XBLA titles would have been announced as based on the news submission header.

Eh, no big worries. :)

I am usually one to give the benefit of the doubt, but this is not Wing Commander by any stretch... it just uses the license. Some video:

Maybe there is more to this than it seems, but I am not seeing it.

Wow, that looks and sounds completely horrible in every way.

Congratulations EA. You could've just reposted a decade-plus old game in an emulator and people would've eaten it up with a spoon.

Instead, you've poured god knows how many developer dollars into a complete travesty, ensuring that not only will you have spent more money, you'll also make less money to boot!

Budweiser ought to do a commercial about you.

If EA wrapped Wing Commander in some sort of emulator, everyone would say, "Typical EA, just putting out shovelware! Fucking Bastards!"

BTW, the more likely scenario is that this was some developer's little shooter and EA had an XBLA slot. Instead of kicking "no name, who cares shooter" out into the world and *hoping* people talk about it, they wrapped it with a franchise they already own and can leverage, ie: Wing Commander.

Makes perfect sense from a business point of view and as all the forum fighting trolls seem to not get is that companies are in the *business* of staying in *business*, even the one's that prance around yapping about "art" and all that bullshit still need to make a buck.

Don't judge the game before you've played it and you won't have to pay a thing if it's crap.
