Soul Calibur III offers the series' hallmarks of exhilarating sword-fighting action and profound martial arts while also delivering highly improved graphics and sound effects to create a unique gaming experience. It also features a Character Creation Mode, which allows players to create original warriors. At E3 our resident Soul Calibur guru was immediately drawn to the Namco booth, and here is a snip :

From a design perspective, I would say that it feels like they are trying to make soul charging and guard breaks have a more prominent role in the gameplay. In SC2, soul charging was only useful to a couple of characters, and even then was used sparingly, as it typically did very little. Already in SC3, I've seen a powerful SC lvl. 1 SCUB (Soul Charge Unblockable) with Mitsurugi's 66A+B, and the second hit of Mitsurugi's K~B is a SC lvl. 1 Guard Break. Moves that charge up into guard breaks take less time to charge than they did in SC2 as well.Check the full Soul Calibur III preview (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=25693) over at WorthPlaying.

I'm still pissed at Namco for going PS2 exclusive, despite the title sold better on Gamecube.

Yea, thats a bit retarded isn't it? Great "shoot yourself in the foot" marketing there. I guess Sony had deep pockets. Although I thought the rumour is that it's coming to other generation Xbox and Nintendo?

I'm pissed also it's only a PS2 exclusive. I'll be even more pissed if it's vastly different and better than 1 and 2

Be funny though if you get a super duper version of it on X360 :p

Ditto. This seems extra-worse for me, since I own an Xbox and Gamecube, yet they deem the system with the weakest hardware and which didn't even have the best sales of the previous title to handle it's sequel. Blah.

I would have LOVED to buy it for the Xbox, but for the PS2? No thanks. Love my PS2, but it's not made for this. Nor will it have online play over Live, nor do I like the direction they're taking it.

I think my beloved Soul Calibur died with #2, and even that was a somewhat weak but still fun update of Soul Calibur 1.

That's it. I'm playing the Dreamcast version all weekend long.

Maybe I can set one up in the company lounge and introduce all these kiddies to the wonder that is Sega's magic white box.

From what I played at E3 it's basically the same game. I only found one or two moves on Mitsurugi that were slightly different. The PS2 graphics are horrible compared to the Xbox and Gamecube, but I'll still have to pick the game up.

Namco will go with the company that gives them the most money.

Even though I love my PS2, I still think that namco is pissing on an electric fence on this one.

Shut up... and for God's sake, think of a better name. Pumped'Up? That has to be the worst name I have ever read. And coming from a guy named LilBunnyFuFu, that's saying something...

Anyway, I think that if Sony paid Namco enough to cover the lack of funds that multi-platform publishing would have gotten them, then it really shows that they both rode the short bus to the school of economics. Lame move on both their parts, alienating two other consoles like that. How many Sega fans that played it on the DC converted to XBOX in the console wars. I know I did. Lame move...
