Gold PSP Now Available

Gizmodo is reporting that the gold version of the PSP is now available in Japan (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/gadgets/gold-psp-now-available-going-to-really-turn-lagging-sales-around-238114.php). New colors usually spur dramatic console sales. Lets keep watch on this week's Japanese sales numbers to see how well the PSP rockets ahead as consumers line up to get their gold PSP.

I was going to crack a joke about this, but I seem to recall that when Sega re-released the "white" Saturn in Japan, the thing sold like hotcakes for quite some time.

Considering Monster Hunter 2 came out this past week in Japan (it had nearly half a million pre orders), there may be a slight rise in PSP sales for reasons other than a new color. ;)

New colors are nothing new for the PSP. Play-asia has the gold, silver, metalic blue, white, pink and even camo. PSP has more colors than the DS even.

I wood ;) love a wood trimmed console. the 360 faceplate just doesn't do it for me, as it looks really crappy.

At first I thought that this seemed like a good idea and it would definitely help spur PSP sales.

Then I clicked on the link and saw the picture. Ugh... it's hard to imagine an even uglier color. Not quite the same "gold" I expected :(

Still... I suppose it will still sell just because it's not black.

I'm a little biased, though. The only other color I've liked (other than the default black) was the camo, or maybe the white one.

Oh, yeah, it's ugly as hell. I want a clear PSP, I was a sucker for the clear Gameboy Pocket way back when. :)

EDIT: The clear plastic PSP cover that came with MGS: Portable Ops. was pretty cool, but a see-through PSP would be even more awesome.

Well... it is somewhat flesh colored, so it'd be easy to hide if you're creative enough about it... :D
