ToTheGame (http://www.tothegame.com/) has links to E3 promo videos of Gothic 3 (http://worldofgothic.com/?go=dlfile&fileid=44) and Lord of the Rings Online (http://lotro.turbine.com/?page_id=57) for your viewing pleasure.

If they work on the combat system and get a good 1st person perspective in there, I'll be excited for Gothic 3.

but, 3rd person is just part of the game. I wouldn't want to play it in first.

I am hoping LOTR online is good, but I heard they took out the idea of good/bad factions/pvp and now its like everyquest where you can only be good. I would have liked to see a big Elf/Orc battle.

Gothic is just fine the way it is, the only thing I worry about with Gothic III is if they are going to be able to top the 2nd one.

Ugh, the LOTR trailer looks terrible. Choppy animations, blocky textures, bland architecture, undetailed character models, etc. They should have been working on this game the SECOND they decided to create the original movie. Then, it might have been completed by the time 3rd film hit the theaters. Now THAT would have been sweet.

I'll hold a little faith, but not much.

A first person view as part of Gothic 3? To look at the environment a little closer, sure, but as part of the game? You know, every new PC RPG doesn't have to be a Morrowind clone. This entire "sword fighting in first person" thing that game had going on was unique and fit the game, but it didn't work well enough for me to want it in a different RPG like Gothic 3.

Gothic 3 doesn't need a new combat system. People just have to learn something different. Once I accepted that fact that I had to be different, I really enjoyed the combat system and all of it's intricacies. I agree with the others on first person view - good to look at things closely, but Gothic is a third person game.

I agree with everyone here, nothing wrong the combat system in Gothic 2... It takes a little skill, but if you invest some time in the game it totally kicks ass... What's the big deal anyway, you just wait a sec after every slash in stead of madly clicking about.

The melee combat in Gothic 2 worked really well in 3rd person. You could dodge attacks and then try to work your way around your opponent to attack an undefended side. I've seen first-person melee work well (Thief 1 and 2), but I prefer 3rd person.
I guess if you were playing as a spell-caster, or an archer of some sort, it might be better 1st person, but I like it the way it is for now.

1st person is for picking stuff off the ground.
