I found this blog (http://news.botros.net/gamenews/2005/05/xbox-360-accessories-photos.php) that has a few pics of some of the XBox 360 accessories including the Wi-Fi adapter, controller charger and cables.

Pretty sweet to see first party VGA support as well.

Does it seem odd that the wireless adapter attaches via a USB port? I am no computer expert but I thought that a USB connection is slower than an ethernet connection. I currently use a wireless game adapter that attaches via ethernet; I assume that is still going to work.

USB 2.0 I believe is 480MB/s. Quite a lot faster than your standard 100MB/s ethernet. Not quite gigabit speeds, but wireless G caps out at 54MBps.

Nice to see the VGA support, definitely.

As for the USB Wireless, that's really only a concern with regards to your PC, as the operating system needs to dedicate system resources to do networking over said USB port. So if your system is using all it's horsepower on say, a game, it may not have enough CPU power left to properly juggle it's TCP/IP stack over the USB. I can't believe this would be an issue at all with the 360, I'm sure they have some dedicated hardware already on the mainboard to handle it (which explains why the adaptor is so freaking tiny), they're just trying to make more money by selling it (but like I said, don't worry about performance).

Now, what's bothering me is where does the headset plug into the controller?

Also, this blog claims that the controller will come with AA batteries default and that the rechargable (lith-ion?) battery/cord is seperate. I doubt this would be the case. MS isn't about to sell you a brand-new console and tell you to buy some fucking batteries.

Caps out at 54 theoretically, actual throughput is much lower.

I bet they will charge for the batteries, just like sony screws you on accessories, MS will too. Its good for bussiness. What about digital audio, is it optical or coax?

Could the headset be wireless too?

Coax > Optical. But let's hope for the both.

Why on earth isn't Wi-Fi built in?
More people have Wi-Fi than have an Ethernet cord in their living room!!

It is sad that they opted for memmory cards instead of SD / Compact Flash cards, just to make a quick buck.

I LOVE the VGA support!

I'm guessing, it's just a hunch, so they can easily upgrade it in the future to emerging standards like Wi-Max. Also, so they can make more money.

yeah Im a little bothered they didnt include wi fi out of the box. If that adaptor is anything like the wireless access point adaptors on the shelves now this thing will retail for close to 100 bucks.

Thirded on the VGA support. I already play my Xbox through a convertor and my GameCube through a VGA cable. I want a widescreen HDTV, mind you, but my wife wants paint and new lighting fixtures for a bathroom and new carpet for the basement (already finished, but the carpet is admittedly old and crappy)...damn it. You'd think with how much TV she watches she'd be on the HDTV bandwagon, but apparently not.

...so they can make more money.I believe the "so they can make more money" approach but it sucks for everyone. The money people spend on a wireless adapter could be spent towards games, which also makes Microsoft and their developers happy.

Since Xbox LIVE is what sets Microsoft apart from the competition, they should be worried about making it as easy as possible to take advantage of their online presence. Asking people to spend extra cash to actually use your competitive difference is a poor decision.

Asking people to run an Ethernet cable to their living room is even more ridiculous.

Not too bothered about the wireless out of the box myself. It would have been good out of the box though. I have my xbox right next to my wireless hub/router so a ethernet cable will connect it no probs. I actually use my wireless to my PC. By the way the Xbox 360 is also 802.11 G compatible so its not 54Mbps its 108Mbps. I have a .11G wireless router and i can only recommend it.

Love the VGA support.I can imagine a lot more xbox360 lans :P

Same here..

My XBox is next to my WiFi router and so I don't need wireless for XBox.. WiFi in my house is used only for my laptop and my gf laptop. Even my gaming PC upstairs has a cable connection.

Somehow, I doubt the EvilAvatar readership is the norm in this case. If you are an EA member, I'd be shocked if you didn't have everything connected all the time. ;-)

VGA? bleh. Can't believe you guys are excited about that.

The thing should have HDMI or at the very least DVI out of the box.

Yes, but no console ever has, and VGA is at least a step in the right direction.

802.11g is 54Mb. Routers that do a supposed 108 use proprietary protocols like Netgear who uses a sort of channel bonding.

Sweet, a VGA cable. And I was wondering if the VDigi that I got for the Xbox would work with the 360.

PS3 has HDMI, where you can convert to DVI but the converter is like $20 :(

DVI=HDMI. It's the same thing, one interface juts requires HDCP while the other doesn't. Of course the pins are different...you don't have to pay 20 bucks if you know where to look.

Headset jack comes out of the...hmm..was gonna say 'bottom' but that's not true, the 'front side' of the unit. If the buttons/sticks are on the 'top', it would be on the 'side' that is closest to you, in between the two handholds.

Not excited about the GIANT FREAKIN' CONNECTOR for the recharger/cord.

No, $500, and it doesn't have a hard drive... we're talking about the PS3, right?
