View Full Version : Halo 3 Release Window Announced

All those rumors of a 7/7/07 release date have now been squashed as Bungie put on display (http://www.bungie.net/News/TopStory.aspx?cid=9562) a teaser poster today. On the bottom of the poster the release window is displayed, Coming Fall 2007. Apparently the poster even contains an easter egg of sorts. Even though we showed Halo 3 for the first time last May, the official marketing campaign for the game is just now starting to begin. With this kickoff comes the first phase of visual identity – what is creatively being referred to as the “teaser piece.” While it may not be anything new for fans who have been following Halo 3 all along, it’s still very cool, very iconic and evokes a sense of mystery and intrigue. It teases you if you will. Although, it does contain ONE very important piece of information. Cough.
So there ya have it. Pretty decent looking teaser poster.

On the other hand MS might want to get shoppers in the stores so they can buy that shiny new black 360, and Halo 3 might just be the lure to do it.
They are also releasing a special edition H3 box.

I don't know who seriously bought into the 7/7/7 junk, but it was seriously such a poorly chosen date from a sales perspective that there is no way anyone with half a brain cell would have launched such a high-profile game in July.

not that i like the game, but i posted this (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24550) last month. now that date (the 15th) seems pretty likely, to coincide with any holiday PS3 games.
Bill Gates announcing Halo 3 to launch when PS3 did was off by about a year, but it might have the same effect that it would have.

I don't suppose that it matters that the www.steorn.net web page has finally changed? Wasn't there some speculation that it was a viral campaign for Halo 3? I stopped reading the thread about it and haven't really looked for anything relating to it for awhile, until I saw the swirling clouds behind the "3" in the halo teaser. That reminded me that there are a lot of "swirling" images at the steorn site. I also find it kind of amusing that the "process of validation" (beta test?) is currently underway and that "...results are expected by the end of 2007." (halo 3 release window?)

It says Fall 2007 down at the bottom, the games are typically launched in November and if you look at the number of blast shields or whatever those raised things are around the circle you can count visibly 13 of them. My guess for release is Nov 13th 2007, just so happens to be a Tuesday as well.

Ok, here's my theory for the easter egg (forgive me if I'm way off, since I don't read the halo books and don't know everything about the universe):
If you follow the horizon in the image to the right. There are a couple flying vehicles (don't worry, that's not the egg), right below those vehicles is a mysterious object directly on the horizon line, which looks a hell of a lot like a halo. So, I dunno, mashed up halo on the earth's surface? Would that be a big deal?

It's hilarious to see Zeal gloating about the game for years before it gets released, constantly making stupid posts on how it's going to own and all that shit, and then we see him tumble down into the post-hype fanboy depression period where he seems to fervently hate the game.
LOL, Zeal.

That's because I played Halo 3 and it didn't live up to the hype.
Oh and motor, go fuck yourself. Fuckin' Microsoft plant.
EDIT: The fact of the matter is this: more and more people have finally been able to get their hands on the beta and alpha, and based on this, the overall response has been negative. The very fact that I am willing to openly say the game isn't good only reaffirms the truth that I am in no way a 'fanboy'. A fanboy would continue the hype train, lying to himself and giving untruthful impressions regardless of experience.
I would much rather give an honest account rather than continuing to hype a game that is evidently not going to be a fun experience. You're attacking me for the very same reason Frankie and Luke Smith erupted on fans over at NeoGAF, and that's because the community reaction has been overwhelmingly negative.
I'm not going to lie to myself for anything, especially not a stupid videogame.
PS- Why do you think all of the alpha leaks have been happening? That's right, sheer disappointment and the desire to share it.

The ring on the horizon is a tether from the space elevator you see in the middle of New Mombassa in Halo 2. When Regret's carrier made an in-atmosphere slipspace jump, it caused that massive explosion which detroyed New Mombassa remember? Well, you can still see the ruins of that city next to the tether on the horizon.
Highly unlikely thats the easter egg because it was seen in the announce trailer. ;)
The easter egg is just a picture of Master Chief's helmet hidden in the Ark. It's honestly nothin'.

Calling me a Microsoft plant is too rich for words.
I classify a fanboy as someone who delusionally thinks they have some special relationship with the developers when they are in fact fan #4,054,212. Statements like:
Dude...Halo 3 has been done for fucking eons...
But whatever.
and
The game will be finished by the time the open beta starts. People who think Bungie will change the game based on their feedback...lol.
Trust me, this is 100% marketing.

You are a Microsoft plant, and yes, Team Xbox does have contacts with Bungie, Microsoft and their affiliates. I write for them and have access to such material. Just as EvilAvatar has informants and relationships within the industry.
My post history has demonstrated time and time again that I am a reliable source when it comes to whatever I decide is appropriate to disclose publicly.
And in all honesty, it just sounds like you're upset that you weren't chosen for the friends and family program.
And by the way, isn't it interesting that you only take offense to statements where I criticize the game? It's people like you that keep me paranoid about what I post.

I certainly hope you do more research when you're writing articles for team xbox.
Here's a quote of mine about how unaccepatbly loud the 360 is:
The xbox 360 is unacceptably loud.
P.S. I normally wouldn't post such a "me too" message but Kamalot's comment was Microsoft PR of the worst kind.
Here's one where I talk about how over it is for the Zune:
Yeah, it's over for Zune. Total out matched by Apple.
And another anti-Zune (I really don't like the Zune):
It is over. The zune guys might as well just close up shop. The windows mobile guys might as well close up shop too. This is not a phone, this is THE DEVICE. It runs OSX. This is what every phone, camera, handheld, portable music player, portable video player has been aiming toward. $599 ($499 for the 4GB) is a steal, this does the work of several devices in one great form factor. This thing is going to change everything and apple is going to make money faster then they can count. Can you imagine the mods that are going to come out on this? This is going to have the best cell phone games in the world. And teh 480x320 screen. I mean who gives a shit about the zune anymore?
Here's one about how much I hate Rare and what idiots Microsoft was to buy them:
Rare was one of the worst mistakes Microsoft made. It drained so much money from the game studio in Redmond that they couldn't do anything on their own for years. Think about it, you could have fully funded more then 30 games with that money. 30! And I bet at least one of them would have sold better then all four rare games combined. Every copy of grabbed by the ghoulies sold could fit in my car (I am not kidding).
As for Viva Pinata. I bought it to play with my kids, they immediately hated it. They wanted a real kids game and the sim was just not interacive enough for them. Now granted they are 5 and under so maybe it was too much to expect. But the game has some fundamental design problems. It is too complex to match the visuals. The art is geared for very young kids but it is a rather slow paced sim game at heart. So the only people who are going to buy it and enjoy playing it are the super hard-core who can put asside the visuals and enjoy the game play. No average high-school or college kids is going to buy it and it is too complex for a 1st to 3rd grader to enjoy.
And you know what, that's Rare's fault. Coming up with a game that can sell is part of being a game designer. Just about any game designer has a game design in their back pocket that they and about 1000 people would absolutely love to play, but that's not the game you bring to the table.
Rare blew it once again. It is only the fact the microsft spent way too much money on them in the first place that microsoft has even kept them around as long as it has.
Here's me making fun of the Gears of War Emo ad:
That is the most EMO thing I have seen in a long time! I was expected to see tears running down his face as he was shootting the monster! <Nelson laugh>
Here's a great pro-microsoft post regard Ed Fries:
Really, what would he say?
Ed might not be the most objective person either since he was run out of Microsoft after spending $350 million on Rare, losing millions on Digital Anvil and screwing over tons of first party partners (Voodoo Vince anyone?).
Here's one of me talking bad about Peter Moore!
Peter Moore's attitude is really condescending to Nintendo. And anyone with half a brain should recognize that. It's stuff like this that makes me hope that the Wii beats them in market share just so that he has to eat all the comments he's made about how great the product is. I hope you all understand that he says this because he thinks that the wii isn't a "real" console so it's not competition.
This is kind of fun to go over my old posts! I'm starting to think I'm a little to anti-microsoft. Maybe it's time to re-evaluate my feelings!
Just in case there is any thought I might be a pro-Bungie guy and anti-microsoft:
Bungie has a patent on the "No ending" tech, so I don't see them sharing it, even if Microsoft owns them both.
Here's a good one where I smack Ozymandias (A bona-fide Microsoft plant!):
You should also mention that 1-1.5 of those threads on the 360 are use for the dashboard as is 32 megs of memory. Oh wait, I forgot, I'm talking to a Microsoft employee!
Seriously, try to post the whole truth, not FUD. When you tell the truth the 360 still comes out great, plus you can sleep at night and I don't have to spend time correcting you.
Here's an anti-FASA one in case you think I work there (plus I like this one):
Unfortunately it doesn't look as good as Halo 2. It doesn't even look as good as a top-of-the-line PS2 game. I mean was this written by teenagers?
Here's one I wrote about Zeal a while ago:
Seriously, Zeal is getting really tiring. I think it's time to ban him from the forums for good.
Sure...I'm a Microsoft plant, but to be REALLY devious I post more bad things about them then good, so the good things I say really stick! Yeah, that's it!
Idiot.

No, I've caught on to your ruse. Durandal-217 posts about once every week or two and it is almost always in a thread commented on by Zeal in some way. Since I don't have any access to the ip (although that wouldn't be too hard to fake) I can't prove it, but it is funny that the last time Durandal posted was almost three weeks ago and tonight for some reason Durandal-217 happens to post a one-off reply comeback for Zeal in the middle of the night. Like I said, I don't think this is particularly hard to fake. But like I also said, I think it is unprovable. You just have to have an account from two different machines. I remote log into work all the time and if I had an identity from work and one from home you guys would never know. I still think that Durandal and Zeal are the same, there have been too many coincidences and I think other people have brought up the same questions.
Unfortunately, as I badly as I schooled Zeal as to me being a Microsoft plant, I'm sure that Durandal is going to press the "Don't pay attention to that, he said I'm Zeal!" in any reply, so I doubt we're going to get anywhere now that Zeal has effectively ran away from a losing fight.
