View Full Version : Killer 7 not living up to the hype?

Pro-G has some hands on impressions of Killer 7 (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/previews/pid/408/69/), the much hyped game from Capcom and the last game from the ‘Capcom 5’.

The problem here is that this feels a bit too much like a shooting gallery. All that's required from the player is to take out the zombie before it gets too close and explodes. Other, static enemies require you to shoot a yellow weak point, but based on what we have seen there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of variation beyond this.

Perhaps it's not the great game we were expecting.

I'll wait for the Gamespot review. Killer 7 scored a decent 36/40 in Famitsu (spelling?) I heard.

Considering I've only even recently heard of Pro-G, I'll wait until the big guys review it first.

Besides, what's wrong with a shooting gallery? Hello @ House of the Dead 3.

This game looks and sounds wierd enough that I don't know if reviewers will do it justice. People will probably approach it with a set of expectations that isn't in line with what the game delivers.

I want to know if the final product is fun and worth my money.

Yeah I too will wait for the big sites to review it before I start yelling out "I told you so".

But damn, look at the jaggies on those screenshots. They scream PS1.

VJoe was loads of fun. RE4 was amazing. PN03 was horrible unless you've been dying to play a ballerina simulator. What was Dead Phoenix supposed to be and what happened to it?

How many of the so-called "Capcom 5" are actually good?
Resident Evil 4- awesome
Viewtiful Joe- good, but only if you like that sort of thing
P.N.03- I've heard good things, but the reviews were terrible
Dead Phoenix- AWOL
Killer 7- ???

At this point I'm more surprised if a promising game turns out good than if a previously unknown game turns out well.

I can't belive that we are still using the term "Capcom 5." That is the term used to describe 5 Capcom Gamecube exclusive titles. 1 of them, Dead Phoenix, was cancelled. 3 others stopped being Gamecube exclusives (Resident Evil 4, Killer 7, & Viewtiful Joe). So the term is really meaningless now.

The only game that remained exclusive was PN03. Take it from me, it sucked shit. It was fun for about 15 minutes. They probably could have made the game really fun the whole time if they would have done 3 very simple things:
1. make it so you could move and shoot at the same time
2. designed more than 3 enemies
3. gotten rid of the random level generation

I still have a trailer for Dead Phoenix and that looked like one of the most promising of all the original "Capcom 5." Viewtiful Joe was always my favorite, but DP looked like an update to the old school game Legendary Wings. Who remembers that one?

Legendary Wings sounds familiar...

DP looked awesome and everything...but while it's a very remote chance, there were a bunch of rumors Nintendo was impressed with Dead Phoenix, so much so that they have been collaborating with Capcom to ressurect the engine for a new Kid Icarus game. And durring E3, a link popped up that would bring you to a Japanese site that listed what looked like several Revolution Titles, and Kid Icarus was listed under Capcom...

Sorry, I didn't get the memo with your approved terminology ;)

Thanks for the clarification...

Well I'm suprised theres still so much hype around the game still, I mean looking at some of the videos on IGN make the game look like shit especially the one with Mask w/e his name is where you just shoot once and everything dies on the screen, it looks like you don't even have to aim with him. The game seems to have a great idea, but WHY THE FUCK would they put it in a game with such horrid game mechanics. There is no secret anymore all the mystery is gone, IGN has said how it plays out, you run around turn on silly vision, then the game becomes any other rail shooter for a few seconds until you kill everything and unto the next bit of "gameplay".

After Chaos Legion, PN03 and the "so-so" Resident Evil 4 (yeah go ahead and kill me, but really, it's not as good as people say. There are TONS of bugs, but it's pretty) and the way-too-hard DMC3, I reserve judgement with Capcom.

man, those graphics look on par with Flashback on PC from 1995.

No no no. The graphics aren't bad. They're "stylish" and "unique"!

If you're going to criticize the graphics, at least go look at some videos.

You obviously didn't understand the game. It combines third-person movement with vertical shooter and music game elements.

Ah Mister_Slim, spoken like a true elitist. "[He] obviously didn't 'understand' the game." Spare us.

I guess these other industry vets didn't "understand" the game either:
Gamespy 70 out of 100

IGN 5.3 out of 10

GameSpot 5.1 out of 10

Games Domain 2.5 out of 5

Game Informer 5.75 out of 10

GamePro 4 out of 5

GMR 4 out of 10

Electronic Gaming Monthly 4.33 out of 10

Game Zone 5.8 out of 10

Eurogamer 7 out of 10

Electronic Gaming Monthly 4.33 out of 10

Game Zone 5.8 out of 10

Funny how Gamepro is the sole dissenter. I guess they "got it". "It" being a truckload of cash.

Here's some wonderful quotes from their "review":

...a long, intense, thumb-busting shooter that tests trigger fingers and patience levels.

There's really no plot to speak of...

...most of P.N.03 takes place in drab, shiny hallways. The enemies lack diversity...

...repetitive gameplay...

...the only skills you really need to master are fire, take cover; fire, take cover; repeat...

Sure, this may not be the deepest GameCube offering available...

And I have seen videos.

Legendary Wings kicks ass...good times

Besides, what's wrong with a shooting gallery? Hello @ House of the Dead 3.

House of the Dead 3 was horrible, I mean come on it reloaded for you.

To me it looks as if this game is beginning to look like one of those SegaCD/3do games where they have story and cinematics and then try to throw on some gameplay. I recall a lot of FMV shooting galleries and on-rail shoooters in those days.

I don't understand the appeal of Halo. I don't say it's a shitty game though. Some games require you to meet them halfway and when you take the time to learn their rules you get a great experience, such as Ninja Gaiden or Gran Turismo. PN03 was like that. Doesn't mean it's for everyone. And don't ever bullshit with review scores.
