Eurogamer is reporting (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=59480) that the PS3 might not come with a build in HD.
However the company has never said that a hard disk would be bundled with the unit at launch, and Chatani's comments this month seem to suggest it's erring toward not including one - and perhaps offering the peripheral optionally in the same way it currently sells Memory Card units separately from PlayStation 2.
But it is not a gaming machine! And so it begins...

Arg!
I thought that the hard drive was one of my favourite aspects of the Xbox. No fussing around with memory cards and the ability for custom soundtracks were awesome features. I can understand the companies not wanting to eat the cost of hard drives in their new systems but for something 10-20 GB, it would cost peanuts.
If they have flash memory cards that are of sufficient size, I guess it wouldn't really matter. I just don't want to have something like the 8 meg card on the PS2 where several games have save files of close to a meg, thus forcing me to either go buy more mem cards or else just erase older games.

This could be akin to Nintendo's "We think Cartridges are OK" mistake with the 64. Not having a harddrive with a next gen system is absurd. Sony memory cards cost, what, 20 bucks? I can get a 20 gig hard drive for less than that.

C'mon we all know Sony's big thing is selling you over priced add ons. I'm not suprised at all. I would also not be suprised if the new memory card is bigger and more expensive. I will also wager that they will change their mind and make the system require a wireless multi-tap to use more than two controllers. Sounds stupid doesn't it? Don't forget this is Sony. If they do come out with an optional harddrive who wants to bet it will be the same fiasco it was for the PS2? Developers are not going to make games for an optional accessory they know most people won't be buying. Once again Sony screws the consumer.
All of this, of course, depends on the system working in the first place. :) Can anyone say "Blue Ray Read Error"? lol

I honestly wasn't expecting Sony to go the hard drive route - they make a shit load of money from memory cards right now, so why change a profitable strategy?

I really dont' mind that much as long as the memory cards aren't tiny like hte PS2 cards.

I thought it was gonna have a dvr included. How can it have a DVR and no space for saves?

Wouldn't a DVR be a really bad idea for something like game saving, where you save over and over again, it won't exactly over-write the original save. And how much longer would it take to save to a DVD over a hard drive? A bit longer I'd bet.
