I hadn't heard that they dumbed down anything on this one. I know they are making console versions but they are using different engines and teams etc. Source?

That's right, 'cause what the PC really needs is less action and fun, and more overly-complicated crap.

BF1942 forever, baby. The WWII theatre was the best.

I don't want choppers. Nor shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles.

BF1942 had an amazing balance between everything. And everything was incredibly uncomplicated.

AA>Planes>Ships>Tanks>Infantry>AA.

Wah.

If their previous games are any indication, you have to download he game's size in patches before it becomes playable. If you own 1 BF game there is absolutely no reason to get any others.

EA people! EA! This game is built on an engine of bones and blood, the textures have been rendered with a version of photoshop too diabolical to comprehend, the physics simulated in non-euclidian hells beyond your wildest imaginings. If you buy this, the wailings of innocent souls will DRIVE YOU MAD! Mark my words!

Here's my impersonation of the Video Game Idealist:

"This is getting old. Last thing I want to play is another tired rehash of some dumb FPS shooter. All this being able to move around on your own isn't innovative. Now a game that limits you to pressing one button to move forward and one to move backward, now that's innovative."

Is EA doing the programming or the just publishing? Can you always hold the publisher responsible for the work of the programmer? Of course, I say always because sometimes that is exactly what you can do. In fact, EA is guilty of this too many times to count. But they aren't the only ones.

That said, it sounds like many of are convicting them of producing crap before the evidence is available to prove it one way or the other. At least, I'm not aware of any playable demos.

I belive BF2 is being produced by Dice which if I remeber correctly was just bought by EA.

It was built by DICE who are a bunch of chilled out Swedes. All programming BF2 while sipping on some frosty cold ones.

Yeah, Integrated voice communiaction and double the amount of players is so lame. Lets just go play ZDOOM online.

They are. I plan on using my Logitech BF2 headset when I save up the money for a ghost busting session.

Also I dare anyone to go inside your bathroom, turn off the lights, spin counter- clockwise and chant: Semag Cp ......Don't say I didn't warn you. ;)

DICE is the developer. If I remember correctly, they and EA are negotiating (or fighting) over EA purchasing DICE. I don't think the DICE board is happy with the price EA is offering but DICE's contracts with EA are limiting their maneuvering room.

Yes, because an RTS style commander and squad based chain of command system is so easy a monkey could control it.

Alas, if only we still had to use our brains as much as we did in the original Doom.

In a multiplayer setting, cooperation is hard to come by and intelligence is wishful thinking.

NS doesn't even have open maps and still noobs go all out rambo.. for about 2 sec before they get killed.

Saying that the number of players and voice chat support are major selling points says alot about your taste in games.

Rock 'n roll. Too bad my computer can't handle it and I'm too poor to ugrade. And I AM sick of dumping 3 clips into dudes and not having them die (or emplaced .50 cals that are actually worse off them just being on foot), but still looking forward to this one.

Good call.

Back on tanget though, I can't believe this game is finally coming out. It of course has to happen during my week off where I won't be near my computer. *grumble*

To Snubber, the 50 cals on the tanks now aren't death traps. You can actually duck into the tank when not firing.

This game is completely different to the console versions. Besides the Trauma team have been involved in this project who made Desert Combat which was the last multiplayer game i played on my pc.

Morratut, sounds good. I hope you're right. The MGs on thanks on BF1942 were *definitely* death traps...made no sense to even man one, as you just became an easy target.

Do you know how much Trauma was involved? I thought it was their baby, but I talked to an EA rep while playing BF2 at E3 and he said that yeah, they helped a little, but by all accounts it was still an EA/Dice project.

Never played a BF game, always been a UT fan... but since UT isn't hitting til what, 2007? I've got time... and since my system is up to speed, might give this one a shot. Still, demo would be nice.

I think about 7 people from Trauma was involved so it was only small part of the team.I've read Trauma have been involved in suggesting gameplay features, infantry and vehicle tweaks amongst other things. It sure has paid off because little details are coming out of the gameplay which are too cool, like the duck feature on tank machine guns.

The squad system is cool because if you die and your squad leader is still alive then you spawn where your leader is(even if he is driving a hummer etc).No more running to a battle from the nearest flag point. So that will keep momentum on battles. It will also force others to be more aggressive to kill a entire team ;)

You have various weapon modes, for example a m16 it has single shot,3 round burst and full auto. I can't wait to use 1 shot in prone ;).Prone on single shot always hits home. Also the choppers haven't been nerfed in reg to control. Beginners can use them but if you put the time in to use em proper you have a lot of extra manueverability/ability. Just little details like this show to me that Truama have been involved in keeping the game not dumbed down.

I've also read that its not hard to kill infantry.Which is how it should be :)

The tanks all feel different. The fighter combat is supposed to be advanced also.

The commander mode sounds great (when you are a commander you are still a soldier in battle)and if enabled on servers will create more dynamic games where choke points won't be just most popular places on maps.

Ie do a sweep on a area, notice 3 enemy and a tank. I could drop a ammo point to the nearest team.Tell them not to engage the tank and troops till i call in artillery on that position to try and take out the tank :D

Not hard to kill infantry? So all the videos that have been released are lying? The ones where tanks fire their main cannon HE rounds near infantry and they just run away? The ones where .50 cals are emptying into chests and the soldiers just dance away?
It'd be great if that were true... but it isnt. Its dumbed down (like the original), arcadey run and gun bullshit. If thats what you like, fine, but don't start saying its anywhere near tactical or realistic

the key is finding a good server, theres a server I go to for NS and everyone is the same players, its like a community, anyone who is a noob we help out through voice comm, and anyone who just plain being stupid will suffer loud screams through the mic lol.

I just hope that multiplayer does not turn into a race to see who can get the planes first like BF1942 was.

The .50 cal is also not slaved to the turret any more so that you can still keep on a target while the turret is turning. I so hated that in BF1942.
