Aint It Cool News (http://aintitcoolnews.com/) is reporting (http://aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=20349) that Matthew Vaughn (http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0891216/) is no longer the director for X-Men 3.
Here's a bit from the story...
”This is not a case of creative differences,” Avi said. “This is a personal decision by Matthew, and I can tell you that he is heartbroken. He loved this material, and he wanted to make this film.” Vaughn has evidently already left to deal with whatever personal issue requires his attention, and Marvel and Fox are expected to make an announcement in the next few days regarding both the casting of Angel (who plays “a major role” in the film, according to Avi) and the new director, who may actually be someone who had circled the film earlier but who wasn’t available at that point.
Thoughts on who the new director could be? Or should be?

They should wait until Singer (is that his name?) does Superman and can do X men 3.

paul verhoeven! I want to see wolverine get his guts torn out on screen, then stuff them back in, heal instantly, and cut a guys head off.
Actually, that started as a joke, but that would be pretty sweet!

Terry Gilliam!
Man, that movie would end up so strange. Who knows if it'd ever get finished even...

Who's Angel? I'm guessing not the guy from the WB.

Angel was one of the original X-Men. Snooty, rich guy with wings. Flys around. Plays a somewhat key role in the Age of Apocalypse.

If Gilliam did it it might actually turn out good. But he'd never touch it in 1000 years. I wish he'd gotten to do The Watchmen as a 12 hour mini-series.

I heard rumors that Angel might be female in the movie.

Uwe Boll!!!
I thought he was Archangel in the comic. Did they shorten his name for the movie?

You never know who may be reading this... and take that idea... and run with it, wouldn't you feel like shit then?

Didn't they announce a while ago that Angel would be a girl and that pissed off all the hardcore?
Personally I think the director is totally over-rated they should just give the job to the guy who buys the donuts. I'd like to see THEIR vision brought to reality.

Archangel is the "name" he took on when he got "remade" and joined up with the horsemen (well, I guess it's more the name he took after he left the horsemen).
Angel is the name the character had in the original comics, through to when he had his wings pinned.

Since Fox seems to be anxious to get this out the door A.S.A.P., I'm concerned that this is going to turn out poorly no matter who directs. But what the hell, I'll throw in my votes for Fincher, Whedon, or Aronofsky. Oddball left-field vote: Steven Chow.

Then won't you just be the coolest kid in school...
I vote Whedon.
They're gonna try to get Whedon back now that he's done with Serenity.

Good. I hope they do get Whedon. I know he's signed on for Wonder Woman but it'll take years to figure out a way to make that watchable.

Noooo, he really REALLY needs to do E.D. 4 right after the next Spiderman. [Knock on fucking wood]

Tim Burton, but then again, he should direct every movie.
Every goddamned one.

I'm surprised no one has said Raimi.
His only other comic book attempts have been two very entertaining movies.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet?
I think, provided he didn't fill the screen with luminous greens or browns, that he could pull off a bit more of a light fantastic kind of superhero film.
He could also be horrible... but whatever he did would be different.

I want them to push back the schedule a few months, maybe more than a year. Do what it takes to get Singer.

Oh god... I just saw part of 'Batman and Robin' this morning, actually. That is easily one of the most horrible movies I've ever seen. Joel should be ashamed at that movie.

Bryan Singer, wait for Bryan Singer!

Oh yeah, David Lynch would be great, though I doubt it would be X-Men as we know it :D
For aesthetics, I nominate Kim Ki-Duk or Zhang Yimou.
But this being a Hollywood production, it will probably end up with Uwe Boll :p . How that man continues to get hired is one of the mysteries of the universe.

Directing shmirecting. X3 is already written without Singer's participation - good director without a good script is nothing. If X3 goes somewhere else than where X2 was leading to, I'll be angry and sad.
I'm not saying X3 doesn't have a good script, I'm just fearing the worst. It's hard to live up to X2...

According to Aint It Cool, there's a debate between either John Moore (Behind Enemy Lines, Flight of the Phoenix) or Brett Ratner (Rush Hour)
