The war between the GDF and Strogg will soon be igniting on next-generation consoles as id Software and Activision confirmed that their team-based first person action title Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, is coming to next-gen platforms.
The Nerve Software (Xbox 360) and Z-Axis (PS3) console versions will also feature strategic team play, persistent character promotions and online stats tracking. Players choose to battle as one of five unique classes in either the conventionally armed GDF army or the futuristic Strogg invasion force, each outfitted with specialist weapons and combat hardware. More details over at WorthPlaying (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=40632).

I'm glad Nerve Software is making the Xbox 360 version. Too bad it's only limited to 16 players online.

I thought Quake Wars wasn't possible on the consoles because of the mesh technology used or something like that. Oh well good news for PS3 and 360 gamers.
It'll suck. real FPS gamers will realize it's a console port, and avoid it. And console FPS players will be "It's not halo wtf lol" and avoid it.

It would be cool if they made it like the early Q3 versions. Where PC players could school the console Dreamcast owners. Let us put this FPS PC versus Console war to rest. The current consoles allow patching, why not allow integration between platforms.

I want to stay calm about this but if all the delays have been about the console ports in order to have a simultaneous release... I will defecate on someone nay everyone who made that decision.

Because 6 vs 6 in a PC game = Empty Server. 16 vs 16 maybe 12 vs 12 perhaps.

I honestly predicted this to a co-worker about a month ago. Console money is just too damn huge to ignore, especially for a game that's had such a long production cycle.

I am not surprised at all. The part of the PC market that can run the latest greatest games is just a tiny slice of the overall market. If you must compare to consoles, the PC platform is like a platform that has perpetually "just launched". If you could make more money with a port you would be crazy not too.
So I am VERY pleased. I have heard such great things about quake wars... It's good news that more people will be able to enjoy it. Hopefully the increased money flow will allow the developers to make more great games in the future.

To be honest, I always thought the PC version of this title would suck ass because it was developed by the same people who did that horrific free Enemy Territory thing.
Hearing that Nerve Software is doing the X360 version has me interested in the title again.

That makes little sense. IT's not like Nerve is making a new game. They are porting it. And they are porting it into a system which will require the game to be watered down - Less players, smaller maps, less features. So why you would be excited about a watered down port of a game you weren't excited about in the first place?
Ok maybe you're excited that the console versions will be sure to have a gay sp mode in them. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Hum, already played that. It's called Battlefield 2142 (which I'm enjoying immensely). Nice to have another BF clone out there.
Personally, I can't wait to see what Dice will make next for the Battlefield series. They are always a generation ahead of everybody else feature wise.

Why does it need to be watered down? The Xbox 360/PS3 are very powerful systems, and the game is using the Doom 3 engine. I just don't get it.
Also, PC vs Console players is happening (not with this game, but future games) with Live Anywhere. I dislike the idea, but maybe I'll grow into it in time. I just don't like an uneven playing field of mouse/kb vs gamepad.

Bugs that no one could of possibly imagined before.
I re-installed BF2 to confirm my hate of EA, damn Armor Fury and Euro force won't show up on my games on EA Link and therefore won't run. Oh, and despite them saying otherwise I still got the friendlies coming up as enemies bug with the latest patch. I can't bring myself to play BF2142 with all the crap I've been through with BF2 and I hope Quake Wars will have something to it.

Because most likely the console version won't be using any dedicated servers so more than 16 players would like hell. The PC version does support dedicated servers and those can easily allow 32 player games with no lag.

I sure as hell can. I am a person who has put hundreds of hours into every BF game, but I quit on them after 2142. I even stuck by BF: Veitnam, but when 2142 came out I laughed. I remeber playing it at E3 and asking the helpers at the EA booth why it felt like a BF2 mod.
But the newest game is suppose to be Bad Company (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlefield:_Bad_Company) which is suppose to be modern warfare like BF2 but the newest and coolest thing is suppose to be that you are able to blow up buildings and have ultimate destruction towards the enviroment. Which is what we heard was suppose to be a feature on BF:V...

Actually BF2 and 2142 support up to 64 player servers. Lag isn't a problem in them either (if you're in a decent server) the only problem I have with 64 man servers is that it's too hectic. You get shot from behind constantly because there are just so many people everywhere. I stick to 48 man servers in 2142, personally.

I’ve sincerely enjoyed seeing all the embittered anti-console nerds crawl out of their mother’s basements to take a swing at this article. Undoubtedly they have all since retreated back to their domiciles to hide from the natural light of the sun.
I abandoned the PC as a gaming platform a while ago, and look forward to playing this on my 360. I do prefer to have a gaming platform were I don’t have to worry about having the l33t h4rdwar3 to run the newer games. That way I can spend my time playing games instead of tweaking setting and downloading drivers – and that allows me even more spare time that I can use to build inter-personal relationships.
But if you don’t have any relationships, then PC gaming is a great way to go.
(KingGorilla is the exception to the rule. He’s awesome and shouldn’t be offended by the above anti-elitist-PC-jerk rant.)

I second that, as a matter of fact I'm surprised no one blamed HL2 Ep2's delay on the announcement of the console ports...
I guess they got away with it just because they're Valve, and delaying is their hobby.
That being said, I cannot be more sad as a PC gamer, losing more and more exclusives every day while having nothing to show to my console-loving friends as a reason to get into my camp. :(

According to today's press release, the console ports will be essentially the same game as the PC version, with largely identical features and game types. However, the console games appear to be limited to 16 simultaneous players, whereas the PC game is intended for 24 players. There was no mention of cross-platform multiplayer, but it is almost certainly not planned.
Looks like QWars will be a smaller battle game than previously thought.

360 version first.

PS3 last.
Last PC online shooter which had no lag was Desert Combat. I never found a server for BF2 which didn't have lag. It's one of the reasons I just got bored of the game.

I almost forgot about that. Of course, you'll most likely end up paying for the mods. (http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/764/764453p1.html)
We're gonna take mods from the PC and bring them over to PlayStation 3, and help their developers polish them up. There might even be a way for mod makers to make some money here, because they can sell it through the PlayStation network…It is certainly a step forward and I'm sure Epic is the company to do their best to make it work.

no i havent, let me see them. I have seen tons of autoaimed single player stuff but I have never seen halo 2 with autoaim in multiplayer. Usually all assists are disabled online or are turned off by people that host games. I have never seen the autoaim option in halo 2.

IT's already watered down in that it's a max of 16 players on the 360.
A max of 16 players means the maps will be smaller. You build maps for an ideal of amount of players and so a smaller player count means shrinking down the maps. And so already the game is watered down.
There's nothing wrong with smaller maps per se, but here you have a game that is supposed to be larger scale battles afaik. Shrinking down the maps sorta defeats the whole game concept in this case.
NExt up features are dropped because the controller is no keyboard/mouse.
Now don't get your panties in a twist. I'm just stating a fact. The controller is nice because you can play on your couch. Other than that a keyboard/mouse gives you much quicker access to alot more buttons and it gives you quicker aiming/turning/looking.
With a controller you just don't have that fingertip access to functionality and you don't have as many buttons. They'll have to take that into account when porting the game. It might mean less weapons. OR eliminating a certain move or two. Or maybe eliminating some hud/map/commander options if this game has any.
Last is lack of memory on consoles. This is advantage pcs have. Yeah don't me the crap that an O/S takes up some of your memory. IT does. But if I have 1 gig of memory then after the O/S is done I worst case still have 750mb. Way more than a console and that's not including the video memory on the vid card.
Anyway you slice it this is a pc advantage. This is why we bigger maps on the pc and more features. More memory too also can store more real time data.
The memory advantage is only accelerated when you consider you'll be playing on dedicated servers with the pc version. These dedicated servers means all the hit calcuations and all that crap aren't using up the memory/cpu on your pc.
Yeah the vid card on a 360 is fine for the job as of today. IT's cpu is decent, but not that great considering it's in-order.
Anyway all in all it's going to be watered down.

Well pc players call large hit boxes auto-aim. Same difference.
The console has more of a put it in the ballpark mentality. Get your cursor kinda close and score a hit.
On the pc it can be get as precise as get your cursor on that pixel and you hit.
And not only are the hit boxes larger, but so are the targeting reticules.
Don't shoot the messenger. That's just the way it is.
