About frakkin' time if you ask me.
Battlestar is being developed by Austrian studio Auran Games, and distributed by Sierra Online. At this point, it's looking like the game will be a download-only affair, with Xbox Live Arcade and PC as the destined platforms of choice. The press release also reports that Battlestar will feature both a single and multiplayer mode, as well as the ability to play as both the robotic Cylons and human meatbags. It's not known whether TV voice talent will be appearing in the game (official word is still "to be confirmed")
The game will be a shooter and will cover parts of the first two season of the show. From 1UP (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3157086).
Is this the most high profile download-only game to date?

These are the geniuses behind Dark Reign. That gives me hope.
If you like Battlestar Galactica … you’re probably a huge nerd.
The message you have entered is too short.

An XBLA title? Something tells me I won't get the BSG experience I want out of this game.

Yeah, I can't think that an XBLA game for BSG is going to be worth a hill of salt. I mean, what could the game really be about? Honestly, I'm asking...

Some more details from IGN:
"NBC Universal is working closely with us so that players will be able immerse themselves in the Battlestar Galactica universe and re-live their favorite missions from the TV series," said Ed Zobrist, president of Sierra Online.
Developed by Australia-based Auran (Trainz), Battlestar Galactica will include both single- and multi-player modes and allow players to fight as either a human or a Cylon in ships that fans of the show will recognize. The game is also slated to be released on PCs.
So, ship to ship fighting it sounds like. Yeah, it sounds like a waste of the Battlestar license, but if they keep it limited, their is less chance of them messing it up.

What I would very much like to see is X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter ala Battlestar. I think they could do that pretty effectively over XBLA.

Indeed, I wasnt excited about this at all until I saw Auran. DR is still one of the best RTS's ever made.

This is precisely what I thought as well. Instead of bloating the budget by trying to integrate a bunch of half-assed attempts at non-flying gameplay, why not set your sights on nailing a simple, fun multiplayer experience?

I haven't really followed BSG. Has there ever been a quality game made with the license?

That's a solid no. So far this is a fantastic franchise that has had absolutely nothing worthwhile produced for it game-wise, and frankly I'm not expecting much from an XBLA only title.

If you look at the non-retro games on XBLA there really is a lot that can be done withing the 50mb limit. Let's not forget the MS is going to raise the size limit for XBLA games too.

I was just looking as a space sim the other day and saying to myself, "A good space sim is the perfect game for XBLA. But what would be a good license..." The fact is space sims just aren't that hard to make anymore (You could make a fantastic space sim with 4 programmers/4 artists/2 designers no problem). There is no animation, you aren't drawing a lot, the physics interactions are very primitive. So they aren't going to be a AAA title anymore. XBLA is perfect for them.

Its probabley not an actual XBLA game.....just a downloadable game on the 360.
More like a GTHD......just on the 360.
Could include extra content for MS points instead of a monthly fee. <just my idea>

They already have some themes and pictures up. I hate that shit. Give us some game footage before you try to make money.

We will probably get like 2% of flying and dogfighting, and the rest will consist in soup opera situations... lots of tragic flash backs and dramatic kissing.

Trust someone from Brisbane to point that one out.
Not that I err... came into this thread to make the same observation or anything...
