The free Acclaim RPG that's not being worked on by David Perry is now available to everybody. You can read the letter they were sending out here (http://media.herald-dispatch.com/blog/games/index.asp) as well as find the link to download the client at this link. (http://9dragons.acclaim.com/downloads/9Dgame.htm)

Thanks homeskillet. It's a pleasure to be back. I'm sorry I've been away so long, it's a long story that involves a 43-day drunk.

Eh. BOTS! screamed spyware to me. I highly advise everyone stay far away from Acclaim's crap if they're at all concerned about security.

Details? Does it just report when you are playing or does it install software that reports on your PC use constantly?

Isn't this old news? I started playing in the open beta about three weeks ago.

The game sucks. And no, this isn't some Serapth-inspired sarcastic remark. It actually truly does suck.

The company is partnered with IGA, one of the biggest adware companies on the market. On top of that I noticed definite performance wierdness after I installed the damn game. then there's the fact that it insists on being run in IE, which is a massive alarm bell all it's own.

I don't know what exactly it's doing, but it's doing sometihng, and I don't trust it, so their software will not be touching my machine, and anyone who already has would do well to run a full sweep for spyware.

You may very well be right about that, but I just received the announcement today.

I played it for about two weeks. I got bored of it real quick. It is, quite simply, just another grinder.

martial arts games aren't my thing, so i'll pass, but interesting to see games being released under the ad supported mechanics, for free to the player.

their reasoning does make sense, people are only willing to pay to play for so many games at one time, and for many (like me), not even at all. ads during loading screens would be a tolerable way for me to play a good game.

seems to be a viable model as time goes on, seeing how you can't so much as sneaze online without magically being bombarded with cold medicine advertisements on every site.

I don't care about the game, but I do enjoy Justin's writing style. Glad you're back!

They have instructions on how to launch it without using IE. It's not that hard.

I also run spyware sweeps every 2 days and it hasn't found anything.

The drunken beggar kung fu is fun to watch, but it is a Korean grindfest. I spent 1 hour clicking on one skill over and over to level it one rank (one cheng in game terms). I also reached Gathering Chi 9 (level 22). I needed to hit Gathering Chi 12 to specialize as a warrior, caster, priest or hybrid. It was ok, I guess.

I been using a Caveman macro (heavy object on keyboard button) for skills like that, haven't had any problems with GMs or other players about it.

I'll admit, 9D is nothing spectacular, but like the saying goes...If its for free, its for me!

I have been trying to get it to work but for some reason it won't contact the server for an update. Any thoughts?
