Activision's rhythm game phenomenon looks like it is headed to Nintendo's motion-sensing console; DS version also appears to be planned. You can read the news at Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com) or by clicking here (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6165647.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;0) .
Speaking to analysts following a robust preliminary earnings report, Activision Publishing president and CEO Mike Griffiths laid out some of his company's plans for its 2008 fiscal year. Much like its archrival Electronic Arts, the Santa Monica, California-based publisher is ramping up support for Nintendo's two popular platforms.

"In fiscal 2008, we'll double our offerings on DS and the Wii," said Griffiths, "including Spiderman, Shrek, Transformers and Guitar Hero."

Will the songs be from Spiderman, Shrek and Transformers?

You know...convergence.

Sigh. First they shift development to the Tony Hawk guys, then they start on all manner of spinoffs, and now they're porting to every platform possible...

Activision are doing all the right things to run this franchise into the ground =(

No....the Wii was made for Drum Hero. And it should come with an extra wand...because you'll use two wands in drum hero.

Jesus, stop whining.

First people bitch, "Guitar Hero's on the PS2 only! It's time to fix that."

Then different people bitch, "They've sold out! They're porting it everywhere!"

Guitar Hero is not a complicated game. You press the buttons in time with the songs. The more accurate you are, the better your score. How do people get off on getting pissed that such a simple game is being ported to every possible console? This should've been done a long time ago.

I assume they'll have the controller just be a shell for the Wii remote, meaning tilt sensors and wireless functionality needn't be included. It'd make a lot of sense, and make the whole thing cheaper.

I'd play that.

I'd love to see Guitar Hero on the Wii (the DS not so much, I like having a controller), I just mean I can see it going the way of DDR now that Activision has found their cash cow. The fact that it's such a simple game makes the prospect of Guitar Hero 8: Country Edition slightly less exciting. Not that it's an inevitability, but this feels like foreshadowing (or maybe I'm just cynical?).

No, trust me. This country is the market that brought us Kareoke (sp?) Revolution: American Idol addition, so Guitar Hero: Nashville Star will not be far behind.

More Guitar Hero is a good thing for everyone.

Less whining, please.

The question is, will you play with the Wiimote, or will you need a separate controller?

I don't see how people can complain about this.
First, you don't have to buy it.
If you think it's being "run into the ground"... don't buy those versions.

Second, it's a fucking rhythm game. What gameplay improvements are they supposed to make for the sequels? GH2 did a good job tweaking the gameplay to perfection, imo. Now what's left? MORE SONGS. That's all the sequels need to be, and that's all they SHOULD be. Any one can add more songs to the already existing shell, why waste Harmonix' genius on churning out sequels that will just be adding songs?
Also, to say it once again, if you don't like the sequels and what they have to offer you do not have to buy them.

And finally... who gives a shit what consoles it's on? How does that "run it into the ground"?? It lets more people enjoy an awesome game.
And DDR hasn't been run into the ground if you're a fan. They come out with new versions with new songs. I see no problem with that, and I don't think most DDR fans do either.

Games like this aren't the same as most games. Rhythm games are completely different than Tony Hawk or Ratchet and Clank games.

I'm a huge Guitar Hero (and Harmonix) fan and I don't see a problem with any of this. As long as Neversoft doesn't screw the gameplay up I'm fine with a million sequels that only add songs. Hopefully this frees Harmonix up to work on an awesome new rhythm game that people can bitch about once it becomes popular.

Without a doubt, you will get a guitar, not a Wii remote. Activision owns Red Octane (the guitar maker) not the guys who develop the game, so they want you to buy their (any only their) guitar. There's no reason to get this if you have the PS2 version already, as you'll have to buy a new guitar to play it. I'm getting the 360 version for the downloadable songs, anyway. As "sold out" as this is, I don't care. It's too damn fun.

I found it amusing that there's no PS3 version in the works. I wonder how the backwards compatibility of the PS2 guitar hero controller is on the PS3. Anyone know?

Non-existent. The PS3 doesn't have ports for PS2 controllers. So no GH controller for now.

That...how should I say...blows. Expect a PS3 version that's exactly the same as the 360 without downloadable songs...lol

Why wouldn't there be downloadable songs? Sony is just as happy to microrape you as Microsoft is.

As long as they keep bringing out GH games on my PS2 with which I have 2 guitars, I will be happy. And as long as they keep making the note patterns fun to do. That is my big worry, that the new patterns will be boring and not feel like the song.

I wonder if the Wii Version will have you slide the remote inside the guitar. And then it will have a minigame where you play with the head of your guitar pointing at the screen as a shooting game where you have to ROCK THINGS TO DEATH by aiming and hammering a power cord... sort of like.. Elite Beat Agents, where you save the day with ROCK AND ROLL!

Yeah, that would be an amusing extra.

Hmmm, seems to me that a guitar with a socket in the back to slide a remote into would work pretty beauty.

There are also a few aspects that I think the motion sensing would help with. Nothing like pointing or 'detection in 3D space' stuff, just simple tilting. Let's be honest, we all get really into it, having a (potentially) much better tilting sense for the guitar (Or your body, the guitar just goes along for the ride) for star power reasons would be a natural evolution. Would be nice to at least see in a side mode.

Unless you're one of those bizarre people who can play GH without getting on your feet and really rocking-someone's head straight out their ass. ;)

I say the more Guitar Hero, the better. It's a pretty tough formula to screw up. Sure, you might not like the songlist on whatever the latest flavor is, but someone else probably will... and then you can crush them on Thunderhorse in your local GH tourney when they show up. ;)

As for platforms... I'm just waiting for Guitar Hero on my phone too. Rockin' out in the halls at work... hells yeah! 4-4-3-4-4-3-4-3-1-2... ;)

I think everyone has a little hesitation anytime a good franchise is passed on to a different stuido to produce sequels but the rest of your complaints really don't make sense to me. Which spinoffs are you refering to? The metal/country/emo editions they've talked about? Those sound like a great idea to me. And porting to other platforms? How can more exposure for this game be a bad thing. So yes please grace us with some of your wisdom. I don't see GH hitting the ground anytime soon.

Transformers sounds good, but I don't understand why anyone hasn't been able to make an amazing game based on the GI Joe franchise...interesting characters, goofy villains, cheesy...of course...but an FPS, or RTS game seems golden. Oh well...
