Pro-G (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/previews/pid/72/68/) has some hands on impressions of Shadow of the Colossus. While a lot of people seemed to be disappointed with what was shown at E3, Shadow of the Colossus seems to be one of the highlights for this year.

The critical thing for me was that even when I was being stomped, I was still having fun. It's challenging and epic in a completely fresh way. Rather than mowing down a series of enemies with your super huge gun or magical sword (like so many other games), Shadow of the Colossus offers real monsters - creatures that aren't going to go down easily.

Games like THIS are why I buy all of the system. Even though my wallet hates me for it.Indeed, if the full game is as satisfying as this level, one can only hope it will receive the critical and commercial success it deserves. If it does, perhaps it will act as a signpost for all next generation developers. We can only hope so.Amen on all fronts.

I certainly hope that such a thing as this game becoming a ways of showing developers creativity is a good thing happens.

Easily one of my top 3 games for the year.

The other two being We <3 Katamari and Okami. I'd put FFXII on there too, but who knows if that'll be released before I'm 90.

The first time you clamp your eyes on one as it ponderously crashes through some trees and drags its enormous club behind it, you will be a little taken aback. Well, I was anyway - I mean just how the hell are you supposed to take down something that big? It doesn't help that the first time I faced off with one that he just stood there looking at me with his dead eyes, neither of us moving. I foolishly thought that he couldn't see me until I saw his arm swinging that massive club in my direction. It was terrifying and brought me into the game in a way I've never felt before. These creatures are truly intimidating.

:) this is the sort of experience i want in RPGs... kinda of what i felt in GOW

Man, I wish we'd get a date on this fucker. I never needed to read any previews or know anything about this game. I was buying whatever game the ICO team made next. Didn't care if it was a remake of Frogger.

This game looks awesome. By the way I've been playing God of War and I wanna take back all the unflattering things I've said about the PS2

Yeah God of War is great. Big applause to that team.

So, isn't there something morally odd about a game where you kill these giant (potentially innocent) creatures, just so that 1 girl may live?

This game could be quiiiite deep in philosophy. It also looks amazing, and I will have to buy it.

Consider me officially worried about Shadow of the Colossus. I had pretty big hopes for the Ico team to repeat their success on the PS2 with their newest adventure game, but I really don’t know how this one is going to fare.

While stylistically impressive, the game chugged along at a very slow rate. The controls were nearly painful, and the camera was similarly cringe-worthy. The game is supposedly at about 80% completion, but with that little time, I don’t see this one turning.

It's sad, really.. if any game (or movie, book) is remotely good, it's beaten to death with sequels. It's not even the publisher/developer's fault, people just want more of the same good, safe experience.

ICO ended perfectly. The only thing I wish they had included in the NA release was the ability to play through again with Yorda's speech subtitled. Ah well.

Wanda, er, Shadow of the Colossus looks stylistically(sp?) in keeping with the feel of ICO while being completely different. Which is fine. Hell, they probably could have just slapped an ICO 2 sticker on it as long as you viewed it like, say, the Final Fantasy games, which were part of a grand series but unconnected to one another.

I don't know, a lot of that seems like stuff that'll be tweaked near the end of development. I just hope those details don't bring down what seems to be a very unique game.

Probably because it wasn't necessarily impressive to watch. ICO wasn't exactly impressive to watch - you had to play it to really get caught up in it. Climbing up gears and stuff doesn't make for great movie footage, but I bet it will make for a great game.

See, this is why MS is going to win this console generation. While MS is dropping the games that don't sell, like Psychonauts and Oddworld, Sony and Nintendo are putting their money into odd games like this and WarioWare. Kameo wasn't 'mature' enough as it was, so it was turned into Dynasty Warriors. And so on.

Yes it was. ICO was one of the most beautiful games ever made. Everyone I have everyone shown the game has been transfixed.
