HMV's online store is now taking pre-orders for PlayStation 3 - providing consumers are also willing to purchase a 4GB PSP pack for a total price of GBP 675.
An email sent out to customers today says the deal will enable them to become one of the "lucky few" who will be able to pick up a PS3 at launch. It reads: "At HMV.co.uk, we've been working with Sony to offer up to 5000 customers an incredible deal when you buy the new Sony 4GB PSP.
"Anyone who takes advantage of this offer will get priority over other HMV.co.uk customers for the PlayStation 3." The deal also includes two PSP games - Killzone Liberation and Gangs of London - and the price for the bundle is listed as GBP 674.99.
----------
A Sony spokesperson told GamesIndustry.biz, "This is just one of a number of value added incentives that retailers will be offering to mark the launch of PS3.

What's this nonsense about there being PS3 shortages?

I love when I buy a washing machine and I'm forced to buy a new microwave at the same time.

They should just change the name of the PSP to The Castlevania Fun Machine now and get it over with.

Maybe it's me, but that seems like a crappy deal. Totally a forced bundle for the mindless masses.

I, for one, am shocked. Shocked I say.

You will be able to walk into ANY store and buy one without a preorder. And you won't even have to pay for it! (http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=14031)
PS3 - you can't GIVE them away!

Why do these bundles work? Same reason we still get SPAM.

"...value added incentives..."
Tee hee hee. I bet the second you get promoted to a PR job at Sony, they send you to the plastic surgeon and disconnect half of your facial muscles so you can't smirk when you say things like that. I know I wouldn't be able to say it without smirking, let alone giggling out loud.

So is Sony offering this deal or simply endorsing it? Either way it's a little bit of a kick to the teeth.

Honestly? I think I'd have rather gotten the games for a system I do not and will never purchase than Talladega Nights on Blu-ray.

I'm confused... what does this have to do with Sony aside from them making the console? The retail stores come up with these stupid ass bundles, not Sony.

A Sony PR spokesman directly labeled this "one of many value added incentives" So, while they are not behind it, they are certainly vaguely endorsing it. Then again, a sale is a sale for them...

It wouldn't shock me to have Sony behind these bundles since they lose money on every PS3 but make money on the PSP. This is a nice way to increase their install base AND cut a small bit of their losses.
Consumers can then use the PSP as a rear-view mirror in the F1 game AND hack it to play ROMs! ;-)

Making me not pay interest on the credit card I charge my purchase to is hardly "giving it way." Heck, that's not even a unique or even particularly good deal. I've got a credit card that I don't pay interest on for ANY purchases I make between now and 2009. I suppose that means that they're giving away EVERYTHING!!!!

From what I understand Amazon.com in Getmany is making a bundle deal very much like this one. Coincidence or is there an unseen hand packaging these bundles behind the scenes?

HMV is an official launch partner for Sony's PS3.

Sony and HMV worked on this "value added incentive" together.

Thats one way to clear the stack of PSPs they'll have built next to the empty DS shelves. Maybe Sony want us British to work three jobs to afford their product.

Here's an article about how Amazon.com in Germany is forcing bundles as well.

So now you can have two systems with no games.
I kid, I kid, one of them has a bunch of SNES ports.

I demand a bundle with more value added incentives. Hell, add SWAT and Hitch on Blu Ray and I'll happily pay £725.
Not.

I'll take as many as you give me.
I dislike Sony, but the beast that is PS3 definitely can squeeze out some excellent graphics. The launch titles were not great (not too many consoles can say they had great ones) but the future for the PS3 does look pretty bright with some of the games on the horizon.

Don't forget that you can supposedly use the PSP as a rear view mirror (or whatever) when playing PS3 games ... so it's not too much of a stretch to bundle em up.
I wouldnt worry about any preorders anyway, you will be able to walk right into any big chain store and buy one no problem I am sure.
