...under!
For our Australian readers who've been hurting for some HD-DVD love, Gamespot brings the words (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6165212.html?part=rss&tag=gs_news&subj=6165212) that will put even more sunshine in your lives.
It looks like the PlayStation 3 isn't the only major piece of console hardware that will be released in Australia in March. Microsoft has announced it is finally bringing the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player into Australia on March 29, one week after the PS3 makes its local debut.

I know for a fact that I've heard (and made) worse puns. But for the life of me I can't think of one at the moment. ;)

I think this will probably be the first HD-DVD player in Australia. Blu-Ray has been here for about 3 months now so technically it has the lead, but it's nearly impossible to even find them in shops, only 1 retailer I know of carries them. It'll be interesting to see if the popularity of the 360 helps to propel this format ahead downunder.

Its a toss up between GunnyMo and Fitbabits as to whose posts contain more comments about the poster, then the post itself.
and bad... bad pun!

The amazing thing is that it's actually reasonably priced.
No interest in buying one, but it's nice that it's not hugely overpriced.

I've had my HD-DVD player for a couple of weeks now, and I love it! A friend gave me a $50 Amazon gift cert. for Xmas, so mine cost me $159 incuding shipping.

Heh, I'm just here to keep y'all on your toes. ;)
Now, did you think it was a perverted title or was speaking to the demise of HD-DVD on 360? Therein lies the real question? :D

I was hoping it wasn't about the demise of the platform and was indeed mentally prepared for the possiblity of more info on the porn industry moving to support HD-DVD. I would NOT have been prepared for images of the HD-DVD attachment doing dirty things to other hardware though, so I'm glad things didn't move that direction. ;)

Glad to see it in another territory, but how about more releases? Perhaps as movies come out on DVD it'd be nice to see HD-DVD and Blu-Ray versions. If they really expect either format to take off they should be pumping out the movies with at the very LEAST every major DVD release being simultaneous with the Hi-Def version.

Mine literally went down. Dead. I returned it, and of course they were out in my area so I'm just gonna wait a bit befoe I pick up another one. King Kong looked awesome tho.

I saw Toshiba has a stand alone player out just yesterday, but I didn't bother checking out prices.
I may end up grabbing one of these, just to make my 360 compatible with Aus dvds as well as European/Japanese. I also hear HD dvd will be region free, which is a plus over Blu-Ray.
Maybe I'll just wait and get a wii instead.

I own about 18 or 20 HD-DVD's now and the majority of them look vastly superior to the DVD versions (even when upconverted). Some older movies on HD DVD don't look as great as some awesome DVD's though. Like Army of Darkness for example, the HD DVD version looks much much better than the Army of Darkness DVD but not as good as a DVD like Black Hawk Down. But this is pretty much to be expected.
These are the titles I own:
12 Monkeys
Army of Darkness
Batman Begins
Doom
Four Brothers
Happy Gilmore
Dazed and Confused
Hulk
King Kong
Land of the Dead
Mission Impossible III
Serenity
Slither
Superman Returns
Terminator 3
The Thing
U-571
V for Vendetta
I've also watched these:
16 Blocks
Constantine
Dune
Enter the Dragon
Friday Night Lights
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Pitch Black
Superman: The Movie
Syriana
Unleashed
You, Me, & Dupree
Most of them were absolutely stunning, especially in comparison to older DVD releases like Army of Darkness, Enter the Dragon, etc. HD DVD addon is well worth the investment.
