From Next Generation (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4664&Itemid=2). The pertinent details:My Sims will be coming to both the DS and the Wii, and SimCity will also be coming to the DS.

Formerly a PC-only release, a version of Spore will be heading to the DS. No release dates or other details were given outside of the confirmation of the upcoming games. The DS seemed like a natural platform for Spore's gameplay, if not it's PC level graphics. I really hope this game lives up to the hype.

I'll say "interesting" but I'd be concerned that the small screen would really cramp the game??!!

Not if they utilize the dual screens.

I read someone's idea of having the PC version linked to the DS version, where you could play the majority on the PC and when you go out, just upload your data on the DS version. I don't know how successful that would be though...

Kick ass. I wonder if it will be as robust as the PC version or if it will be a hand held version? Spore better be good because I have not anticipated a game this much for a very long time.

If you like to read, I recommend Phoenix Wright and Hotel Dusk. If you like fun, try Elite Beat Agents. If you like neither, you're at the wrong website.

I'm just curious, but what about the DS compliments Spores gameplay?

Guys I think there are bigger considerations than screen size and onscreen polygons.

The Spore design is incredibly ambitious. It simulates an entire ecosystem and gives the player an amazing amount of control. RAM, CPU speed and disk space will be your limiting factors.

QFT

This is the main obstacle I foresee.

That said, I will still keep an eye on this. Spore looks very good.

You have dust on your DS?

With all that has come out in the past couple months, I have to question. What the hell are you waiting for?

Also, glad to hear My Sims is officially leaving Japan (I dunno why, but I was worried it might stay). I like the Sims concept, but couldn't get into it. With how much this seems to be mixing things up, I'd love to check it out. :)

What will Sony say now?

Damn you Nintendo and your gimmicky DS! :p

I've played Phoenix Wright, that was awesome. I heard the others were good to. Now I just need to get some money >_>;; Darn you college school books!

Phoenix Wright 2 should be in your collection if you enjoyed the first one at all. And everything people have said about Hotel Dusk is true. It's fantastic.

As for Spore on the DS, colour me intrigued. I'm not sure how well it'll translate but it could work. I'm not particularly interested in either Sim City or My Sims (though I could almost see myself getting sucked into Sim City, but I've played it far too many times on the PC in all the various iterations to get too excited) but Spore is one of my most anticipated titles on the PC so a decent DS port/version would be cool.

I use to have friends that I mooched off of but they are currently over seas for the next two years. I need more gaming friends :p

My sister how ever, is extremely spoiled and can pretty much get any game she wants. So there is a possibility of mooching off of her if I can convince her to get my parents to buy it for her :D

Actually, disk space shouldn't be such a big deal. Because of the way Spore is designed (procedurally generated content), it can fit an enormous amount of information into very little disk space. However, it's going to have a huge memory footprint. From what I can tell, the DS has some pretty decent horsepower, so I think RAM will ultimately be the limiting factor. Maybe the DS port will feature three minutes of gameplay, three minutes of loading screens.

Just kidding, I'm looking forward to this and I hope they can find a way to make it great.

I would think that, since they've already announced the game will be coming to the DS, they would have already figured out how to make it work.
Then again, some companies make promises first and try to figure out how to make it happen second. Kinda backwards, but that's the reason there's no PS3 in Europe yet...

Oh I so hope EA doesn't pull an EA on this, like they have done so many times on the DS.

I'm going to try and refrain from pointing these things out in the future Kamalot but damn, you managed to get a PS3 jab into a thread about Spore coming out on the DS. How do you do it? :)

Come to think if it, I remember Will Wright saying something in an interview about bringing Spore to cell phones and other hand held devices. I wish I could find it again (I think it was a video online around E3 time last year). I can't remember if the context was Spore is that scalable, or if it was completely different games.

It simulates an entire ecosystem
What precisely gives you that impression? None of the movies I've seen have shown anything of the sort.

I'm pointing out the underlying difference some companies have in how they approach problems.

I see it all the time with companies I deal with. Some companies do feasibility studies, put forth estimates based on facts and determine if something can be done, before saying it can. Other companies say they will do something, usually backed by the ego of a small number of individuals. Then, they send teams scrambling to figure out how to accomplish it in the same time frame.

I would think that EA determined that it was feasible to put Spore on the DS before they came out and made an announcement about it, like so many in this thread were skeptical about. Sony typically does not take that approach, as is evidenced by the number of times they've had to go back on their word. I could give you the name of other companies that also take the 'Sony' approach, but since this is a game forum, using Sony as an example resonates with the largest number of people here.

pc level graphics? you can't be serious. the graphics for spore are dated beyond believability.

I know it won't look like Crysis on a PC but it'll still look better than the DS. (Not that the DS version will look bad either)

Uhm, has anyone here seen the tripe passed off as the Sims for the DS/PSP? If this is anything like those 'ports', then count me out. The PC title looks interesting (as a long time Sim* fan), but I'll skip the DS version. I imagine it'll be some tamagochi-raise-some-creature thing, not a full spore implementation. I'd love it if that wasn't true, but the track record for these 'ports' is not good - they are never the same game, just inspired by it, and designed and implemented poorly. The only mobile Sim* game that has caught my attention is the upcoming SimCity DS title.
