From Yahoo! News (http://tinyurl.com/2s8m7d)...
DEL RIO, Texas - A recent standoff between National Guardsmen and heavily armed outlaws along the Mexican border has rattled some troops and raised questions about the rules of engagement for soldiers who were sent to the border in what was supposed to be a backup role.
Six to eight gunmen — possibly heading for Mexico with drug money — approached a group of Tennessee National Guard troops at an overnight observation post Jan. 3 on the U.S. side of the Arizona-Mexico border. No one fired a shot, and the confrontation ended when American troops retreated to contact the Border Patrol. The gunmen then fled into Mexico.
I ask you - what's the point in Ubisoft releasing GRAW and the upcoming GRAW 2 if our soldier's hands are tied when it comes to confronting armed bandits at the Mexican border?

I was being serious. :)
A long time ago in a southern state far, far away, a buddy of mine was getting his carry permit. The sheriff or deputy or whatever that had to sign off on the deal told him, "If you draw it, shoot it and shoot to kill, dead men tell no tales." and the guy was dead serious.

I would if I could. But wouldn't ya know, Unreal 3.0 engine doesn't support PS2.0b cards. How stupid is that. I'm just one generation behind being able to play. My card is certainly fast enough... I don't understand why developers can't just remove PS3.0 effects for single player. Valve made Source run on DirectX 7 cards. Why can't developers just include some damn backwards compatibility?
Doh, GRAW isn't based on Unreal 3.0. But it still didn't run on my X800 for the same reason.

Well this isn't actually GRAW related. GRAW has missions/levels set around the Mexican border I think (only tried the demo of the first for about 20 minutes). But, I mean... does this actually have anything to do with gaming or GRAW itself?... Not really.
However, do I care that it's on the front page? Nope. I'm not running the website.
If I post some news about space can we relate it to EvE?

Nope, only the posts that have nothing to do with games or are tied in by some loose connection.
You know, like this one.
Why are they bothering to release GRAW 2? Uhh.. to make money! Seriously though, I always assumed GRAW took some dramatic license with the tech and stuff. I doubt the real Army is as efficient as those guys.
And why is this on the front page?

Yeah, it's just terrible when an armed confrontation ends with no gunfire and no bloodshed. Stupid border jerks!
EDIT: Just to be clear, it sucks that the thugs made it into Mexico with (possible) drug money, but at least none of our guys were killed. Just sayin'.

I don't think it's the PS2.0 that's doing it. My computer at work is a PS2.0 card and it runs GRAW. Granted it looks ugly as hell (it won't render the alpha channel on the foliage), but it functions well. Now I do know that it won't run on PS1.1 cards, as a colleague's computer wouldn't run it because of that.
Seriously though, I always assumed GRAW took some dramatic license with the tech and stuff. I doubt the real Army is as efficient as those guys.
You'd be wrong about the tech part. The weapons and systems that were used in it are all ones that are being developed by the military.

The title of the thread, while manipulated to read "GRAW" instead of "War", is taken from the very same song (Im assuming) you're alluding to. "War" written by Whitfield and Strong for Motown in '69 sung by the Temptations.

Heh! You're so out of touch with me these days... Kitten news posts (plural)? I count one (and I didn't even post it, although I did move it to news, which was supported by Evil). Unsubstantiated Capcom rumor? Your problem with unsubstantiated rumor on EvAv versus any other site is what, exactly? All I'll say is that you'll be the first person I look for when this is confirmed. Countless random threads I close whenever I feel like it? I've closed two recently, for differing reasons. Shoddy PS3 editorial? Huh, well that's constructive criticism for you.
I suggest if you have a problem with my administration or moderating then you contact Evil and voice your concerns to him. Or, you know, you could just not visit any longer if you find the site so unappealing.
Edit - And I must say you trying to involve the other reds in this discussion ("I think it really has compromised the quality of the site and it sucks for all the other mods, as all of them do a great job of keeping their efforts transparent and their interference with the way the site is run to a minimum") is very immature and shows a lack of class.

Fitbabits, you're right - it's such a shame no one was shot like in GRAW the videogame. Your political commentary is the reason people come to this site. You really don't strike me as the kind of person who has no power in their life and feels a need to oppress others in petty ways to compensate. I think your justification about posting "just because you can" is really good, because that's the sort of reason people give when they're right about what they do. Also, I think the way you're officating the other adminstrators is really classy. Do you work tech support by any chance?

I was just voicing my opinion regarding what I consider to be some pretty poor moderation decisions you have made over the last few weeks. I intentionally mentioned the other moderators because, in contrast, I have noticed them responded in a much more mature manner on quite a few occasions. Kefkataran and Bapenguin in particular deserve a lot of praise for this. I have seen people hurl comments their direction that were pretty nasty or try to incite flames and they continue their role as mature peacemakers. You respond by going off on people or closing threads. They walk off any barbs that get thrown their way and I can tell that they put a lot of thought into trying to avoid having threads turn into flame wars (whether it is in regards to the Microsoft vs. Sony nonsense or anything else). Meanwhile you post another witty flame inducing "Finally, some good PS3 news!" The division I made between their moderation habits and your own was an intentional one and it wasn't made in order to create grade school alliances. It was made because I think they have demonstrated how to do a great job moderating the site. They have demonstrated maturity and restraint.
And you've certainly closed a lot more than two threads over the past few weeks. Most of them I wasn't actively involved in and it didn't really bother me except that I thought it was pretty unprofessional. I don't have a big enough problem with your behavior as a moderator that it would ever cause me to leave the site. I'm not looking to play drama queen. But I do find your "my way or the highway" approach pretty petty. I do suppose you have answered my question, though: 90% Evil Avatar, 10% the fitbabits show it will continue to be.
