The answer to the title is: There's no convenient answer.

Eurogamer's Kieron Gillen has produced just about the most level-headed review (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=59379) I've ever read, offering no less than 3 different takes on Atari's Boiling Point: Road to Hell (http://www.atari.com/boilingpoint/).

[Reviewer stands up, paces the room, lights an imaginary cigarette and stares out the window for half an hour. Returns to his seat, drums his fingers on the table for five minutes, occasionally casting a half-glance back towards the screen where the cursor blinks accusingly. He takes a deep breath, turns towards the keyboard and...]
Props to Kieron for giving an ambitious game the benefit of latitude. This is one review that doesn't try to do the thinking for you, but instead, with you.

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted.

I love this format. I just wish the reviews themselves were longer.

I read this yesterday, but did not take the effort to post it as I am not a PC gamer. Anyways, it is indeed a great review. It makes the game sound quite good as long as the player is willing to put up with some wild bugs. Personally, I figured that this game was destined to fail after seeing some of the early info, but it looks as though it succeeds on several interesting levels. Hopefully it sells well enough to warrant a decent patch.

A US patch (http://www.atari.com/us/support/newfaq/boilingpoint.php?browser=1&osType=WINXP&pageDisplay=DOWNLOADS) has already been released.

Actually I read it couple of days ago, I was waiting to see if anyone notices.

Played for about 15 minutes before I got tired of the bug-fiesta. AI worse than brain dead, interface as bad as Battlecruiser 3000, clunky animations and low-poly count...

bleh. 3/10 is about right.

I'll probably pick this up, hoping that some patches fix most of it's problems soon enough though.

I will look at BP when I hear that it has been patched up.

I want to try it out as well.... I wonder how long Atari will keep patch support for the game though, if it sells bad then they will most likely drop it quickly.

Temple of Elemental Evil, anyone?

Kieron Gillen is one of my favourite games journalists, his PC Gamer UK review of Deus Ex is legendary. One of my all time favourite reviews, along with his System Shock 2 review.

I really wanted to like it but I can't. It's just too damn broke and once again we can thank Atari for this.
BTW. this is the sorta game STALKER would have ended up as if whoever is publishing it wouldn't have let it slide multiple times. So yeah, letting STALKER stew for a couple of months extra is only good.

That was more a critique than a review. Props to Gillen.

Sounds to me like someone, somewhere has finally worked out that the best way to give freedom is to design a game for your area, not an area for your game. Isn't that right Mr. Fisher?

He used to be editor of PC Gamer back when I still bought it, wondered what had happened to him.

I bought this today, Atari really should stop rushing their releases. I hope it gets patched, there is a great game in here.

I just want to thank Liquidize for posting this. This one had completely slipped under my radar and it looks like something I'd really enjoy. Plus it's always good to read a KG review.

Well, I just picked up, installed, and patched this game. I must say the intro video made me laugh, when the french try to be hardcore it usually comes across as funny, but once I got to play the game I really enjoyed it. I was loving the freedom and all of that, until about 10 minutes in my screen turned blue and my computer started making death sounds. Now I'm afraid to load it up again.

Please, for fucks sake, fix this game.
