I hadn't seen this one before, Maxis' upcoming "everything" sim, Spore, now has an official website (http://spore.ea.com/) at Electronic Arts. The site boasts a cute animation and a couple of screenshots.

I'm so psyched for this now. I made a mental note to check it out simply because of Wright's involvment. After seeing that video I can't wait now.

How can a game like Spore get an expansion pack?

A little imagination goes a long way.

Much like the way each "The Sims" expansion pack adds both new areas to explore and new items, you can do the exact same thing for Spore.

Each custom "themed" expansion pack can contain new creatures, and each creature can come with its own custom set of evolutionary technology... buildings, ships, planets(?).

The packs can just be "content" (ie, new buildings, vehicles, spaceships) or they could add more gameplay features like roads, trading, diplomacy.

Spore: The Square Planet Attacks!
Spore: Triangular Planet of Apes

Expansion pack 3: You pull out even further and realize that your whole universe is just an atom in another universe.

Expansion pack 4: You gain control over the laws of physics.
