Check out the sad news - Morpheus was killed yesterday in The Matrix Online.

From 1UP.com: "The principle character responsible for triggering the chain of events chronicled across The Matrix trilogy, Morpheus, has been eliminated during a Live Event in the series massively multiplayer online game, The Matrix Online."

Ah man, I was hoping this (http://www.aschulze.net/ultima/stories9/beta.htm) happened.

Well, according to a similar article in Gamespot, he may not actually be dead... (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/05/26/news_6126608.html)

Killing off a character and then bringing him back to life is one of the weakest goddamn plot twists in existence. They've already done it twice in the films... will they go for the hat trick?

Wow, I expected to care when I clicked on the link, but the way they played it up it just seems stupid.

This is just a scam to get publicity for the crappy game. He will be brought back to life shortly. And this site fell for it. pwned!

Yeah, having your protagonist commit acts of terrorism is the way to have the game resonate with mainstream American gamers. I don't stand in judgment (terrorism is only a tactic), but most people seem to have very set ideas on that point.

I think the only more cliched plot twist they could've had would've been someone becoming a person/machine hybrid and fighting against their old allies.

And the entire internet joins in a collective yawn.

Does anyone actually care about this game?

Thats a good question. Does anyone here actually play Matrix Online? If so do you enjoy it or are you waiting for your subscription to end??

Actually, as I recall several people here did play the game and were quite happy with it. I've been considering picking it up since the price dropped to $30. I'd be curious to hear some feedback too.

I still think that The Matrix, as a universe, is a fascinating place to use for a game. I would really like to see some high-quality novels come out of it. A couple of good books could really revive interest in it IMHO.

Of course, the fact that The Matrix is a neat idea has nothing to do with whether or not this game is any good. :D

I still play it. Not as much as I use to but...I still play. Sometimes though, I think it is playing me...

There are bugs a plently in the game right now and a large player base of immature special-ed kids (if you find some cool gamers your age to play with - hold on to em).

That being said, when you get a group of cool gamers together and you are doing missions for your faction or neighborhood contacts or working for collector's items, it can be very cool. It is great to walk into a room with a couple of your buddys all loaded up with different abbility sets and start wreaking havoc on those NPCs inside. If all that stuff bores you, there is always PvP, which can be amusing against all the young kids playing the game right now.

And, right now they are doing a free trial until the 29th, I believe, I will send you a free cd code through PM Alexious - check yours.

I admire them for continuing to put out new storyline content... but what about the people who haven't purchased the game yet? All these "events" they keep having will have been long in the past and it won't be more than a few months before the publisher just gives up on "new content" and moves on to another project.

I'm ashamed to say I used one of those free trial codes on the 20th and actually took the time to d/l and install all 5 horrid gigs of that piece of shit game. The game runs like ass and looks like ass, it's a big ass fest, as for the combat thats sorta ok, but the game looks like it belongs in the late 90s.

And as for the Morpheus event OH NOS!!!! Who gives a fuck.

I started playing the free trial as well, and I can only assume that you must have had to turn down all the detail settings. It looks great on my machine (and runs well too). Sure, it's buggy, but it's not any worse than WoW was after 3 months or SWG was after a year. I'm having a good time with it. Mainly due to the combat and the plethora of live events that are constantly going on.

FYI, they've officially stopped making movies, idiot. How many franchises stay "living" after the trilogy is over? That "Naked Gun" franchise sure is hot as hell right now, isn't it? What about "Hot Shots"? Glad it's alive and kicking.

Um, WoW was essentially 100% bug-free at launch. There were server problems, certainly, and there were various class skill specific bugs, but that was about it.

MxO, half the people I know who tried it can't even get it to run.

Please don't compare the bubbling splash of gut-chowder that is MxO with my beloved WoW.

'Star Wars'? 'Indiana Jones'? 'Aliens'? 'Star Trek'? The Bond franchise?

That's my 15-second list. You get the idea. There's quite a few IPs that survive the initial movies.

Speaking of which, I want a 'Back To The Future' game.

I'm a victim of the WoW obsession as well but you're overstating it a bit there. WoW is most definitely not bug-free. It's certainly one of the cleanest MMO's I've ever played, but let's not push it.

I wish I was at home playing it now :(

GrinR

Phades, It was -essentially- bug free, which is to say that a vast majority of people could play without either showstopper bugs (like CTD or bluescreen) or gameplay killers (like stuck in geometry, falling through the world, or inventory disappearing for no reason).

Yes, there were bugs - and there still are. But they were the exception insted of the rule. Hell, even the support forums only showed a tiny number of complaints (thousands?) out of the half-million US players. That's a QA miracle.

Alright, there is something I do not understand. Tell me why no MMO is as deep as Ultima Online was? UO was 2D! That makes it harder to do things, not easier.
