Nintendo goes 3rd party... oh wait it doesn't!

Now please price your backlog for the Revolution as follows:

NES games - $0.99-$2.99
SNES games - $2.99 - $4.99
N64 games - $4.99 - $9.99

And NOT like the NES classics for the GBA.

I really hope they can get some 3rd parties on board for NES/SNES support. That pricing structure looks fair.

Fanboys around the world are dreaming about Capcom, Square, Konami etc. and SEGA support (wtf? SEGA? how?).

Personally I think it won't happen (only 1st party titles) and knowing Nintendo they will price the games really high :/

If people paid $20 for one NES game on their GBA they will surely pay $20 or more for SNES/ N64 games, now won't they?

The games should be cheaper as there are no cartridges to manufacture?!? The q&a with the George Harrison seems to suggest that there will be some free 1st party downloads the same way they were given free with GC games and that its upto the third party devs if they want to offer something similar...

Thats interesting. Maybe I am reading this wrong, but the sales in the US were twice that of the sales in Japan?

Some of the increase has to do with the weak dollar, but its impressive nonetheless. It will be interesting to see how they keep up with the PSP out now and the Next Gen systems dominating the holidays and beyond. Also glad to see that Paper Mario did so well.

As long as Nintendo has dominance in the handheld market, they won't be running short on cash any-time soon. The question is, if Nintendo performs poorly in the next gen console market, will Nintendo and it's stock holders deciede to go 3rd party? It's worked very well for Sega, and they would certainly gain to make more money that way.

That's Nort America, not just the US. And of course, you have to remember that the USA alone have more than double the residents of japan.

Even as one who has always argued "as long as they profit, it doesn't matter what place they hold in the console wars", I'm still wondering how long Nintendo will believe the two are mutually exclusive.

This, to me, is the time to really suck up to those 3rd party developers and let them know exactly how developing for the Revolution (and DS) will benefit them.

u guys have to also remember nintendos is profitable also because it rapes developers. it has had a history of it, and that won't change.

Just as Nintendo rapes developers, they can also buy their love. Developers want money just as much as Nintendo does.

Nintendo do seem to be the underpants gnomes of the games industry:
1)Release console all the pundits claim will be their death knell.
2)?
3) PROFIT!!!!!!

Step two in that plan is Fanboys.

Not to say I'm not one, hell, I would buy a nintendo brand toaster.

lol, saw that comming. I really would like to know what percentage of their NET profit is from the console vs handheld divisions.

I wonder if some of the downloadable classics will be given away when you buy their modern counterparts. For example, when you buy Metroid Prime 3: Revolution, do you get a free download of Super Metroid for the SNES?

Sweet!

Nope that's the general stats across all gaming platforms. Except for things like football (soccer) titles and the Sims which are much bigger in Europe then NA.

NA = 50%
Europe = 24%
Japan = 24%
Pacific Islands & Australia = ~2%

NA is the dominant force in total game sales. Japan has the highest sales to consumers ratio.

Yeah, that's why they're selling them in packages, which will probably be $15-20 a pop. Which is still too high, but I know I'll end up paying it anyways....*sigh*

I think just releasing the Revolution with just the ability to download classic Nintendo games would still make major profits. I'm looking forward to this system, if only for the game downloading ability.

Why would a company that is making so much profit release so few games? (And so many crappy titles?)

How many publishers can you name that are bigger (software only, obviously). EA certainly out-craps Nintendo. Eventually I'll figure how to get gamerankings to output publisher averages.

I believe Nintendo is the 2nd biggest game developer in the world. Could be wrong though.

I'd love to see an average score for Nintendo games too. I would be willing to bet they are substantially less crappy overall than most publisher's lineup.
