IGN (http://www.ign.com) is reporting that the game formerly known as Unreal Tournament 2007 for PlayStation 3 is now called Unreal Tournament 3 and will also be released on PC and Xbox 360.

You can read more here (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/758/758367p1.html).

Punching home a message that Midway is coming to the next-generation with a full stable of goods, the Chicago-based publisher today announced that the game formerly known as Unreal Tournament 2007 is now Unreal Tournament 3. And it's coming to the PC, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 in the second half of 2007.

Using the Unreal Engine 3 (what other engine would it really use?), Epic's seminal first-person shooter will douse gamers with gorgeous, life-like graphics, arm them with unbelievable futuristic and brutal weaponry, and hurl them into online deathmatches like never before.

The new game comprises a vast number of changes from increased aggressiveness and intelligence in the AI to better, more ridiculously powerful weapons to new characters, game modes, and online improvements. New weapons are highlighted by the long-range Shock Rifle and the shorter range Flack Cannon, and more than two dozen weapons will be ready to wield when UT3 is ready in the second half of 2007.
Great news. Great news, indeed.

Editor's Note - Someone please stone me for forgetting to credit our own CaptStu and Kamalot for bringing this to my attention. - fitbabits

I am assuming we will not see this game in 2007. The name change kind of backs that up. A "second half of 2007" release doesn't mean anything. Looking forward to this one though, just not anytime soon.

Oh hell yes. I'm one of the few who never cared about Halo's multiplayer, but never had the specs to run UT properly. UT3 on XBL is going to be absolutely badass.

I didn't care much for the 2007 title. Made me think of EA Sports titles...and that's not a good thing....

You should put it on the curb with a "Free" sign and see long it takes before someone takes it. Maybe make it an either-or using a $5 bill. I think I'd take the $5 first.

The only way that will work is if there's a lemonade stand beside it. People will not stop for the PS3 alone. :)

I think Unreal is just too fast natured for consoles. I think the best think to do would be to rework the game mechanics and slow things down a bit, then put it out as "UT2k7: [Stupid subtitle]"

All the best(selling) console fps were slow moving. namely, Goldeneye and Halo.

Jesus, guys. Make up your minds. UT2K4 should have been called UT2 then. You screwed it all up now. :-\

Whatever. It's Epic. The game is going perfect online FPS gameplay yet again.

Epic? I hope they add client hit detection... Nothing pisses me off more then all my shots lagging, while the host in Gears of War is shooting my head off while im jumping mid-air

Although, ive never been a fan of the fast UT pace.. Its all about who can aim and shoot fastest... most weapons only needing 1 good shot to kill

So that means Unreal 2003 and 2004 were really 2.003 and 2.004?

I hope there is more to it than just better graphics and new maps. I am hoping for the gameplay to be different and new. I don' care if the hardcore fans bitch about the game not playing like the old ones, they can go fucking play the old games. I think bad things happen when you try and make a new game just like an old game, as if it's not exact, the old fans bitch, but if it's too similar, the rest of the world bitches.

I didn't like UT2003 on the basis that it felt like it was trying to be Quake 3 instead of Unreal Tournament. 2k4 seemed more akin to an actual update on the original game though and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

If a series like Unreal Tournament has a new edition with an entirely different feel, entirely new weapons, vehicles, maps, and absolutely no trace of it's predecessors, what makes it an Unreal Tournament game?

What was the plan when they first started with UT2003 -- releasing another game annually, and cashing in on trivial updates and changes? Nah, that would be cynical.

Well, there was an interview a few years back with either CliffyB or Mark Rein, in which they stated their intention to make UT a yearly game.

The greatest deathmatch game of all time's sequel will be good. It's just too bad I'll have it on PC, and if my friends get it on 360, they'll think they own me at it... if only they knew the true power of the mouse and keyboard in a shooter. And being a 6 year vet of UT doesn't hurt either.

True. Everything was pointing towards this happening. I even remember a person from TeamXbox sending an email to Midway with a response that the game was planned for the Xbox 360, but people (Sony fans) still denied it.

Assassin's Creed? Check. Virtua Fighter 5? Check. Unreal Tournament 2007? Check. Next up, Metal Gear Solid 4 and/or Devil May Cry 4.

Didn't 2004 pretty much just make 2003 obsolete? It had everything 2003 had, but a lot more? It's pretty easy to forget 2003 - no Onslaught, and not as fun as the first UT (IMO).

I dont know about playing this on the console. Anyone remember the first Unreal that came out on the Xbox? The controls were shit. The whole reason they went in a totally different direction with Unreal Championship 2 is that it was designed for the console controller from the ground up. I think it was an awesome game and the controls worked really well too.

I'm a diehard UT fan. I'll probably get this on the PC if I dont have to updatede my PC. I will definitely rent the 360 version just to see how it controls.

I'm still waiting for Unreal Championship 3.

The new title makes sense. UT2004 definitely doesn't count as a complete third game, it was more like an expansion pack for UT2003.

They can keep it. The game is pretty but from what I saw on a video interview makes me hate the game. The producer of the game said you can only play with the tilt function. So far I hate the tilt function in every game I have played. So unless they change it and give you the option to use the dual stick I'm not buying.

Another thing that pissed me off was the assprod was saying is that the game can't be played with the dual sticks only the tilt will work. The guy is full of shit the play style of the game would easily allow dual sticks their just trying to sell "Hey look at us we're innovating"

How are FPSs any different? You people and your "It's not innovative, it's all the same" bullshit is pissing me off.

FPS= run, strafe, shoot,jump,shoot/GoW= run, cover, shoot, dive, shoot

platformer= run, jump, get item, jump, die, throw controller

JRPG= walk, fight, wal, fight, wa, fight, w, fight, fight, watch a 3 hour cut scene, buy items.

CRPG= see FPS and add swords and 3 hour choose your own adventure style discussions.

Racing= Drive, crash, throw controller

A genre is a fucking genre for a reason, when I buy a game like GoW I buy it to do the things it advertises. Other than a few multi-genre (mostly shitty) games every thing easily falls in to the repetitive category you described.

Yeah, I forgot about those. I was thinking along the lines of the Might and Magic games and Elder Scrolls type games which have been more common on PC's.

I consider the Baldurs Gates and Planescape games as a shortlived moment of RPG perfection which would probably fall under PRPGs/RRPGs I.E. Perfect/Real Role Playing Games.
