BeyondUnreal (http://www.beyondunreal.com/) has posted Epic's Mark Rein response (http://forums.beyondunreal.com/showthread.php?t=159497) to the comments regarding the PC version of Gears of War.
Gears of War is an Xbox360 exclusive. We're developing it specifically to take advantage of the power and features of the console. All of the work on Gears between now and when we ship is toward creating the ultimate Xbox360 game.
Could we, in the future, adapt Gears for Windows just as Microsoft did with Halo? Sure we could and, as you can see from J Allard's comments, Microsoft is clearly cool with that idea. But we're a long way off from thinking about that. Right now our only goal is to make Gears one of the "must have" titles for Xbox360 and judging by reaction to our relatively early showing at E3 we're well on our way toward achieving that...
Thanks to Blues (http://www.bluesnews.com/) for the tip.
Since they are initally focusing only on the Xbox360 platform, this game better kick some serious ass.

Well that's okay, I knew I'd end up being strapped for cash between late 2005 and early 2007.

lucky you it's not an fps then!
I just got an awful feeling that Duke Nukem Forever is going to be geared towards a next gen console release.
That would suck. Yeah thats right, I'm looking forward to it.

GoW ain't a straightforward FPS methinks. It's more of a RE4-like FPS. No need for fast & precise mouse aiming.

Think RE4 meets kill.switch.

What the hell?? I thought DNF fans were extinct.
Well I was looking forward to Daikatana to so....... :).
I don't know man, if I have the choice of having a good game to play and having no game to play, I am rooting for a good game.

yes...it's 3rd person...i don't even think it has the option for first from the demos i've seen.

3rd person shooter is what it is from what I've seen. It still looks great, but the AI looks horrible at its current state. I really like the ability to create your own cover though.
Isn't the Xbox 360 supposed to be more powerful than the most powerful PC currently? Does that mean the port is going to be like one of those crappy XBox-to-PS2 ports?!?
The port won't be coming out on current systems. It'll be a Halo deally.
In any case, it could still be a crappy port, system power won't be the limiting factor though.

Good point. Is this something that XNA is supposed to solve?
(Once again, I'm seriously asking and not being sarcastic.)

Yes, XNA is supposed to solve this.

Does XNA have magic pixie dust that gives a PC 6 CPU threads and an R520?
By the time it hits the PC it won't have to.

I wasn't aware that Intel and AMD were planning on rolling out triple core dual threaded CPUs anytime soon.

This port may go a bit better than the HALO port as everyone knows the Unreal 3 engine is coming to PC.

Absolutely, that and so much more. XNA really pushes the envelope of the HD era, it creates synergy between the outside of the box and the bleeding-edge of the extreme. It’ll also make you taller.
Seriously, the GoW stuff looks pretty cool, I thought the HL2 stuff shown at last E3 looked more compelling, but this still looks like it’ll be fun.

PC's are scaleable as well. You could design a game that couldn't be run on all-high settings until a year or so in the future if you really wanted to.

Damnit, now I'm trying to figure out whether you work for MS or Sony PR...

PCs are scalable. By the time this comes out on the PC (think late 2006 at the earliest), the hardware will play it just fine.

If the rumors are true, you'll be able to (forced to?) use your 360 controller in XNA games running on longhorn (and I would assume XP). Why port the game to the PC when you can port the PC to the console? ;)
Seriosuly, though, this game does look cool. I liked kill.switch until it got insanely repetitive, and I've been hoping for a good 3PS since. Here's hoping they have deathmatch as well as co-op (I've wanted a cover-centric competitive online game for awhile now).
