Shigeru Miyamoto will be giving a keynote address (http://www.gdconf.com/conference/keynotes.htm) at the upcoming Game Developers Conference called "A Creative Vision"
In his keynote address at the 2007 Game Developers Conference, Shigeru Miyamoto will reveal how a singular creative vision drives his work, not only in terms of his world-renown software, but also in generating key technologies, including the current global phenomena, Nintendo DS and Wii. And he will challenge the audience to apply his approach in their own distinctive styles.
First SquareEnix announced they were giving a talk at the Serious games summit, now this. It's going to be a good year for GDC attendees

1. How do you convince your fans to literally buy the same game over and over for 20+ years?
2. Have you heard of this internet thing? I hear it is taking off.
3. Friend codes, what the fuck?
/bitch about how expensive GDC is to go to

It is really expensive, but I almost consider GDC to be a vacation. Who knows how to have fun at a conference other than game developers? ;)

Miyamoto? I heard from my best friend's cousin's sister's neighbor's uncle that he died at the 31 flavors last week. Something about a turtle shell to the noggin.
I can understand that, but when you compair it to the experience you use to get at E3, I just cant help but feel like they are shafting people. Sure the speaches are great, but you can always see them YouTube, or the GDC site, and as far as chatting it up with developers, you could always do that at E3 as well.
Hope you enjoy this year.

Agreed, I went to GDC in 2002 and all it consisted of was talking about making games by day and drinking copious amounts of free booze by night (I might add, the boys at Havok know how to party!)
On a side note, it would be cool to see Miyamoto there.

1. How do you convince your fans to literally buy the same game over and over for 20+ years?Good Point.
2. Have you heard of this internet thing? I hear it is taking off.Yea, the Wii And DS should have had WiFi built in. Hey wait a minute...
3. Friend codes, what the fuck?Because of sensationalist media stories like "Predators are using Nintendo DS" (http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=special_coverage&id=3905371). Friend Codes were more restrictive than they needed to be on the DS, which is why the Wii handles them differently. Yes, the DS Friend codes do suck, but Nintendo didn't do it for no reason.

Well, seeing as how it is for Developers, and the companies usually pick up the tab, the cost isn't really any kind of factor for the people that need to be there.
I've gone the last few years and it's a great place to network and learn about what the other folks in the industry are doing - it's often suprising how may ways one can achieve the same or similar results (finished games).

Handles them differently? The last time I heard, the new Pokemon game in Japan (which is the Wii's first online title) had it's own friend code.
Also, I know Nintendo is trying to protect kids, but they're seriously hamstringing themselves. It's been said before, but developing your entire online platform around child predators isn't necessarily the best idea, and long-term it could cost them.
