View Full Version : Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike Booster Pack announced
Battlefield 2142 will get a trio of new maps, a new class of vehicle, and a whopping 10 new unlocks with a recently announced booster pack. No details on date or pricing, but all the Battlefield 2 boosters retailed for $10 a pop.
From battlefield.ea.com (http://battlefield.ea.com/battlefield/bf2142/NorthernStrike.aspx?Lang=us&PID=81279030&SrchName=&Profiles=):
With ten new unlocks and ten new awards, Battlefield 2142™: Northern Strike offers unprecedented persistence for a Booster Pack. The epic Titan mode introduced in Battlefield 2142™ is available on two maps, and for the first time in an urban setting.
Check out the trailer as well on Fileshack (http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/10080/Battlefield+2142:+Northern+Strike+Movie) or YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i16IUKFTarU) for all your bouncy hoverbuggy needs.
Yeah I have stability concerns, balance concerns, and worries about my ability to achieve these unlocks with my soldier already at Major... but damnit if I won't be buying this the moment it's available.
Awh... my ever so clever renaming of Battlefield 2142 to 'Battlefield: Ice Capades' was edited out.

Announced, and videos posted, yesterday.
I don't know how we keep getting repeated complainers here! Repeats don't hurt people, people hurt people. :(

Oh great, further segmentation of the player base. Exactly what you want with an online title.

That does looks awesome though. If it's 10 bucks I'm buying it.

The earlier news post was about details of the booster pack being leaked. In light of that, EA decided to release official information about the booster pack today, including a new trailer which I don't think was ever posted as news.

Battlefield 2 put me off enough I didn't bother picking up 2142 and with the whole ad-ware thing I don't think I will. Not to mention the whole booster pack thing was also a put off to me. Several of my buddies couldn't play as much on our regular servers after Euro Force and the other pack came out. They didn't want to piss with the EA downloader and we quite playing by the time they came out in stores.

The only people who have a problem with the ads are people who haven't played it, and thus haven't realized that the ads are a non-issue. You hardly ever see them in game.
It would be nice to have booster packs that are actually worth something, this time around. 10 new unlocks sounds good, provided they're actually something different and not just a slightly modified version of this gun or that gadget.
Edit: Although I suppose if you didn't like Battlefield 2 in general, you won't care much for 2142.

BF2142 was worth my $25 on sale. It's a lovely stand-alone expansion-pack, but... a full game? I still say it's not.

I have played and loved every single BF game and I can safely say, I can’t wait to not buy this piece of shit. I think Dice/EA did some of the best work destroying an awesome franchise.

I greatly enjoyed BF2, plus the SF expansion, plus one of the two packs, and did so for a long time. I sorta liked 2142, but woke up after a couple weeks of play and realized I had no interest in ever playing either of them again.
I am kind of tired of hearing people complain about the ads and what not, especially people who don't and never have played the game, much less played it and were annoyed by the ads.
Instead of believing every bit of gossip and rumor you might hear on "news" sites, you might want to dig a bit deeper before accepting every story as the word of God handed down from the mountain on stone tablets.
What held my interest for so long in BF2 was learning how to fly the helicopters and doing so effectively. The hovers in 2142 just don't compare in that aspect. Anybody can fly the transport, and while the attack hover is a bit more challenge, it is a challenge not really worth surmounting.

I just picked the game up about a week or so ago. I've had quite a bit of fun with it, and it seems like the game loads and gets going faster than BF2 did (fewer people, better servers?). I've been looking for mysterious internet ads...but have only seen propaganda posters (DO YOUR PART FOR THE EU and such). I was expecting to see something more...maybe it takes a few weeks to kick in. Anyway, enjoyable game. Not sure I'll pick up the expansion. I bought SF and Euroforce for BF2 then hardly ever played the things. C'est la guerre.

Man I am still having a blast with BF2, 2142 never quite hooked me.

Ditto. I beta-tested 2142 and played the demo and I thought it sucked. It felt like a BF2 mod more than anything.

Trust me, the beta/demo has nothing on the real thing. I was a non-believer too.
