View Full Version : Weekend Gamer: What are you playing?

Once again, like a train out of control, the weekend is here! By this time I figure the Wii injuries are starting to occur as people pitch, hit, and bowl a bit too much. "But it was fun doing it," they will say. How are you enjoying your Wiis and PS3s? If you have both, what do you like best? What games will you be playing? And if you are like me and don't have one (or a Xbox), what games will you be playing this weekend?

Want to advance a bit more in Zelda Twilight Princess (Wii) this weekend and perhaps even finish it. Will ofc also play a fair bit of Burning Crusade, really good expansion I gotto say and I'm impressed by the stability of the servers.

Still playing with my Wii. I hope to finish Zelda this weekend, which will give me more time to dig into Wario. Wario is just plain nuts, perfect for any modern gamer with serious ADD.

The Battlestations Midway demo. I have full preview code here, but our debug machine is in Copenhagen and I'm in London, so I'm stuck with one mission only for the moment.

I'll probably play some Lost Planet too, got it last week but haven't had time to do anything with it yet.

Well, I got "conned" back into WoW after retiring for 5 months, so if my son "allows" me to, I'll be playing that, Gears of War, and/or Dawn of War: Dark Crusade.

Burning Crusade. It's been interesting to watch the guild dynamic totally fall apart with my 20 and 40 man raiding guild squeezing everyone into as many 5 man raids as they can. But there's so much else to do, quest-wise, that it's hard to just keep up with it all.

I'll also hit some Company of Heroes as well. I, too, have had an uncommonly hard time with the game, for someone who usually breezes through RTS titles. I think it's mostly because it's a squad _tactics_ game within a real time _strategy_ game, and you have to look at it that way. It comes down to a lot of micromanaging - you can't just grab a group of guys and throw them at the enemy, they'll just die unless you have vastly superior numbers.

I've been practicing mostly in the skirmish settings, and if I can stop the initial German tank blitz with rapidly deployed fortifications I have a fighting chance. But if I give them an inch, they'll swarm me. Tank traps and mines are your friends!

I picked up the Guild Wars Special Edition for cheep. If it shows up this weekend I'll be dabbling with that. Kind of a push-back against the Burning Crusade hype.

Still having fun with Fate. Getting into Vampire: Bloodlines a little. Played the Tutorial of DoW: Winter Assault Again. Might get back into that.

I'm at one of those places where I just don't know what to play. I'll probably pull something out of the backlog and get sucked into it. In the mean time I just bounce around until something grabs me.

Taking ballroom dance lessons with my wife! Kind of fun to get out into the world and act like a real human being!

I'll be playing a stupid, pointless, gay little game that consumes almost ALL of my time: Animal Crossing: Wild World. I don't know what it is about it, but I play it to the exclusion of other very cool DS games (including FFIII, MarioKart DS and Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2).

When I am not playing AC:WW, I'll likely be struggling with "Carry Me Home" and "Psychobilly Freakout" on hard on Guitar Hero II.

And, maybe, just maybe, if I am somehow persuaded by my mini-guild compatriots, I will play a bit of Guild Wars (which I still think is a direct descendant of Diablo II... but no one, including my guildmates or anyone here, seems to agree.)

Hopefully picking up Castlevania: PoR and Advance Wars: DS (still haven't played it) this weekend.

I just tried out Warioware last night and that is a metric ton of fun, so I'll be doing some of that. On the Xbox 360 side of things, Oblivion is like a fine wine and still working on Lost Planet (where's the Crackdown demo!?!?!?)

I'll be playing the "Microsoft Dead Xbox360 Shuffle" game. Last Sunday I go to play my newly purchased Gears of War and the game locked up a couple times, only minutes into the game. So I try the unplug/replug all cables and HD. It still locks up but this time right at the Xbox 360 bootup logo! I again unplug/replug and try again to only get this:

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/152/357681003_b40a8e5e81_m.jpg

The dreaded red ring of death! CRAP!

So after jumping through the service reps hoops of doing exactly what I had already done before, they authorized a RMA. Yesterday I received the box to ship the Xbox 360 back to Microsoft and today I'm going to drop it off at UPS.

The only good news out of this is that they did not charge me for the repair, even though I'm just weeks outside of the one year warrenty. I had purchased my 360 right before Xmas when the 2nd wave of shipments had hit the local Best Buy (me and my friend camped overnight).

My concern is this, up until now the box worked flawlessly. I had it in the open and it had plenty of ventilation around the main unit and the power supply brick. I called my friend that bought his at the same place and same time as I did, and come to find out his did the ring of death just one day before mine and he had to send his in for repair also. Not a good sign...

Hey Felonius, let me know if you get a new console or if they fix your old one. I get occasional lockups when I played GoW and still happens (at almost exactly the same frequency) with Lost Planet.

I am playing catch up on all the games I bought over the last year and never finished, since I am flat broke and can't afford new ones.

Xbox:
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Prince of Persia - Two Thrones
Psychonauts

Ps2:
FF XII
Okami (If I can get back into it)
Trapt

Its nice to be able to spend time finishing up old games instead of constantly getting distracted by new ones. But I still find I am struggling with my compulsion to actually try to finish all the games I buy.

Is it worth it to play a game for 20 hours just to finish it (*cough* X men legends 2 *cough*) when you would rather be playing something else?

I'm in the Temple of Time in Zelda (wii), and I hope to put a few more hours into that. I also just picked up a classic controller (which is awesome), so I'll probably spend some time w/ Castlevania IV and TJ&E. I'm so proud of my new baby (the 5200) that I'm sure I'll squeeze in a little Qix or Pac Man.

[Edit] Oh yeah, I also borrowed Bully from a friend at work, so I should probably give that a spin. I've heard nothing but great things and kept meaning to check it out.

Im going back through old games and getting the low hanging fruit acheivements. Probrably PGR3 and COD2 first off. Im sick of having the lamest gamerscore amongst all my friends.

Funny thing is, I dont even really care, but somehow it just feels required...

Also, I may go to the Detroit autoshow. I got free tickets from work, but damn I hate finding parking for Cobo hall.

Since I beat Phoenix Wright 1 a couple of days ago, this is what I'm working on:

Perfect Dark Zero (What the hell is up with all of the haters? The game is GOOD, and really fun, especially in multiplayer!)
The Outfit (A surprising little gem... made by PC gaming's current RTS darling, Relic)
Burnout Revenge for 360 (Awesome game, the graphics, the sound, the sense of speed... the FUN... all combine to form 360's best racing game)
Possibly Viva Pinata... I've had it for a few weeks and haven't really tried it out.

I've been playing the "Get Over This Stupid Cold" game that I've been losing for most of last week. I'm finally feeling a bit better, so that's good... just in time for work tomorrow!

When I haven't been hacking up a lung or waiting for death to claim me, I've been playing Burning Crusade mostly. Got my Draenai shaman up to level 10 (very neat intro area for them... love the quests and their storyline) and also got my main VERY close to 60 last night (I've only been playing him for 2 years... about time I go on an instance run instead of soloing pigs for XP).

When I wasn't playing WoW, I worked on the third case of Phoenix Wright 2 a bit more and also have started on the Goron Mines in Zelda: TP (Wii).

Not a lot of playing going on this weekend due to this stupid cold but I'll probably spend today playing the DS more than anything.

I've been finishing Lost Planet this weekend. Other than that I've only played some XBLA; Lumines, Geometry Wars and Bejeweled 2.

I just ordered Elite Beat Agents and Hotel Dusk from Videogamesplus.ca. They should arrive in 3-5 days so I know what I'll be playing next weekend. These games haven't got a release date here yet so I decided to import them. Since I get 2 games for the same price 1 cost over here it wasn't really a hard choice to make.
