One of the coolest looking Xbox titles at E3, Activision's Ultimate Spider-Man, has just launched the official website at: http://www.ultimatespidermangame.com/

Ultimate Spider-Man - Take on the role of the world’s most famous Super Hero, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and one of his most menacing nemeses, Venom, in an original storyline written and illustrated by the creative team behind the best-selling “Ultimate Spider-Man” comic book series. Ultimate Spider-Man has not yet been rated by the ESRB.Would you believe I have almost every issue of this series and I have read none of them?

I thought this was one of the more impressive games shown at E3. I am kind of surprised it is coming out on current gen hardware.

Really. The same with Ultimate X-Men. I have an entire short white box filled with USM and UXM and I haven't read them. I am missing about 4 issues of USM, so I keep putting off reading them until I fill in those four issues.

I've got no excuse for UXM, that is just a habit with me, some series I just let stack up until I have a couple of years worth of issues then I read them all at once. I haven't read any of Green Arrow or The Spectre either. (Though I stopped buying Green Arrow a while back.)

I can't wait to see how this game turns out.

Don't worry about old Ultimate X-men, Evil, you can skip that. Most people consider it to be pretty worthless, unlike Ultimate Spider-man and The Ultimates.

I can't wait for this game, loved Spider-man 2, though I was disapointed with it's lasting power. I hope they improve that in this game.

You really think it's worthless? I think it's better than the mainstream X-men titles.

I agree. UXM and USM are great!

I hate marvel period, the people who made spider-man great again in the late 80s and early 90s, Todd mcfarlane and company, got royally screwed in the ass so they went to create image and made Spawn, which is way better written than any of the new spider-mans.... its a shame the movie was a big pile of shit, poor martin sheen. But what do you except with John Leguezamo as the Violator lol.Top Cow also makes some awesome comics, Darkness and Witchblade are really well written and interleaved. Again bad tv Show for witchblade too  .

I thought John Leguezamo rocked as the Genie in Arabian Knights, but I digress. I am also a huge Top cow fan, I was blown away by Issue #1 of the CoH I was expecting more trite crap ala Blue King, but I was very wrong.

On a totally different topic.... A friend of mine who was lucky enough to actually go to E-3 said that one of the PS-3 guys told him that SOE was doing a Marvel superhero MMORPG for PS-3, has anyone else heard anything on this?

Image tanked. Why? Because they made every mistake, not the least of which being the writing was awful. The writing for Spawn is as well, and the sales of the comic are not spectacular. He has marketed it as the second coming with the bad movie, cartoon and toys - but it isn't.

The three core Ultimate titles (UXM, USM, and Ultimates) are all worth reading, IMHO, even if Bendis DID kill my favorite X-Man!
Grrrr.......

I'm pretty iffy on the rest of the ultimates stuff, even though I do have a lot of it. Ultimate Daredevil & Elektra was cute, but didn't feel important, Ultimate Elektra was just.....meh. Ultimate Nightmare.....well, I liked the new characters they introduced (well, re-introduced), but it felt like the guy they had writing it wasn't reading the other ultimates titles.

I have to admit that I am a fan of the old-school Spider-Man. I'll prefer McFarlane any day!

Btw; during E3 we actually posted these Ultimate Spider-Man E3 impressions (http://e3.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=8271) in case you want more info about the game.

a couple things:

positive things first:

both UXM and USM are really really good. Bendis writes a REALLY good Peter Parker, and re-interprets the stories without ravaging them. Clearly a LOT of love for the original Lee/Ditko/Romita, Sr stuff. Bagley's art is also consistently great. The story where Wolverine and Peter switch bodies is my favorite body-swap story ever, I think.

The Ultimates is the best of the Ultimate lines overall, though. I love Millar, I love Hitch, I love everything they've done in this series so far. Unequivocially recommended.

now more negative stuff:

Todd Mcfarlane is an egotistical prick and a hack. he can draw pretty nice, but he's an awful, awful writer. The only reason the early issues of spawn were so well-written is because he got Frank Miller, Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, and Dave Sim to write issues, mostly because of Mcfarlane's supposed (in reality, nonexistent) commitment to creator's rights and ownership of characters created. This ended up being absolute bullshit when Neil Gaiman years later ended up having to SUE Mcfarlane for compensation/rights to the characters (Angela, and some others) that he Gaiman created himself while working on Spawn. in short, fuck todd mcfarlane.

also, he helped create image, which had a major hand in making mainstream comics as a whole pretty damn awful for a couple years. thank god good writing is coming into vogue.

Also, old-school Spider-man is Mcfarlane?! go buy some of the Essential Spider-man trades for some real old-school (and real good) Spider-man stories.
