IGN (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/756/756231p1.html) has a preview up of the 5 new maps for Call of Duty 3. These 5 maps should be up on the XBox Live Marketplace sometime today."What's the theme of the new maps?" Bunting asks rhetorically. "The pack is called the Valor Pack, but our goal was to get back to the classic Call of Duty feel. These feel like the original Call of Duty maps. The ones that shipped with game were bigger and more open. These have more narrow places to run, nooks and crannies to hide in, and they're better designed and controlled."

Price? 800 Points ($10)

Ack. $10 is a bit steep for a few maps IMO.

That may be too much for me. I hardly ever play CoD3 online as it is. I've been disappointed in it. I SOOOO enjoyed CoD2 visually, with the ability to watch a replay of how you died from the perspective of your 'killer,' and the smaller maps with fewer people.

CoD3 doesn't do it for me...

Yup, 3 was nowhere near as good as 2. They should have just released a patch to increase the online player limit for 2.

$10 for a map pack? Fuck you very much. I will just go play some GoW free maps.

I prefer 3. I also think it's stupid to be able to see where your 'killer' killed you from. Takes away from the challenege. But I think that added a handicap that made CoD2 enjoyable for the casual/mainstream gamer.

Hardly a handicap at all, in my opinion...NOT at all, in fact. Rather, it added an element of fear for campers who find a nice spot, sit, and snipe. It actually made the game more of a challenge as a result; you had to be continually in motion, moving from location to location.

I guess we view "challenge" differently. You'd prefer to deal out or receive death from who-knows-where; I prefer knowing that the person who is camping, even if it happens to be me, has to be on the move, continually, and using strategy, not just a comfy hiding spot and a sniper rifle.

To each his own.

And neither is "stupid." It's called personal preference. :p

I totally agree. I rather have added challenges than added crutches.

:D Haha! You guys crack me up. A crutch? It's a gameplay element like any other. If you want to get rid of crutches, how about not using the scope on your sniper rifle? It's a CRUTCH! What about the crutch of getting shot to hell and recovering from it if you get to cover quickly enough? That's a CRUTCH!

It's all gameplay elements, folks. And I PREFER the killcam element being present (CoD2, as opposed to 3). The REAL crutch is being able to hide your ass in a corner and pop off shots with no need to do anything but camp. THAT is a real crutch, and that is stupid. :p

Enjoy the rarefied air up on your "hardcore gamer" mountaintop. I prefer games that require some thought and strategy, as opposed to pitching a tent and popping off cap after cap...

Duuno about all that, I don't see how being told where your enemy is cannot be considered a "crutch". To each his own.

You're kidding, right? Call it whatever insulting terminology you want, but it's an element of gameplay, just like everything else.

Here are some more "crutches" which I would simply call gameplay elements:

1. Every time your enemy fires, it's indicated on the screen from which direction they shot (the radial dial/compass in the corner)
2. You can get riddled with bullets and, if you get to cover quickly enough, recover. (maybe you hardcore gamers should, after getting shot once, step out and let them finish the job...it's not realistic to be able to recover from multiple bullet wounds! It's a CRUTCH! ).
3. The sniper rifle has a scope. Want a real challenge without any crutch? No-scope, all the time.
4. Campers/snipers can, if careful in the selection of their location, remain there indefinitely. In a real war/battle, snipers are identified and taken out by some other means than infantry, if necessary...RPG, mortar, air strike, etc. Camping is a crutch.

Good lord...the arrogance is amazing. It's all gameplay elements, folks. Saying otherwise makes you sound like a serious hypocrite, because everyone who plays and uses some of the above features is using gameplay elements which some would call CRUTCHES.

You like CoD3 without the kill cam? Great! I like CoD2 WITH the kill cam. Either one is simply an inclusion or exclusion of an element of gameplay. A crutch/stupid/handicap? Bullshit. Live by your own standards, then, and don't do some of the above. And actually DIE when you get shot, and not run away and hide...

Edit: Hell, speaking of supposed crutches (I would just say gameplay elements), in CoD3 you have the following:

1. Indicator of exactly when a grenade will explode as you prepare to throw it.
2. Directional indicator for where grenades land near you.

I don't know of too many soldiers who have on-screen indicators for those things in real life. Must be a crutch in the game...

Um, i think your taking this a little too personal. We just stated that we liked 3 more and the absence of the kill cam (because it gives information). You obviously don't mind being told where your killer is, fine. Play on

Um, i think your taking this a little too personal.

Personal? Not in the least. I take offense at the idiotic use of the words "stupid" and "crutch" to describe basic elements of gameplay...removable elements which are subjectively enjoyable (or not) to different gamers.

Don't call features I enjoy STUPID and a CRUTCH. That in itself seems to me to be stupid and arrogant. They're simply features in a game. That is all.

And ten bucks is too much for the maps for this game...

Well, I guess I can call PC FPS KB/Mouse a 'crutch'. No human has the kind of pinpoint control that KB/M gives you.

$10 is 2 hours of minimum wage. Each of those levels probably took at least a week of work to complete.

Just to update everyone, Treyarch released the map pack today on schedule, though it contained a few problems so they took it down once they were notified. Here's a link to the story on UK Gamespot.

http://uk.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/callofduty3/news.html?sid=6164357&om_act=convert&om_clk=newlyadded

As long as they release the newly updated pack under the same name as the old one, I would assume people who had problems could just delete the pack and download it again without worries of refunds.

it's kinda odd that the demo of Crackdown was delayed cus it's stuck in the certification process...yet a $10 map pack gets released even though it doesn't work...did it get to go through a different process? You'd think they would test for something like "be able to play with maps" in certification.
