View Full Version : DOOM 3 v1.3 Win32/Linux Update Patch

Activision has released a new patch for id Software's FPS DOOM 3. This update brings your retail game to v1.3 and synchronizes the original with the Ressurection of Evil expansion pack, adds Punkbuster support, sound enhancements, fixes various multiplayer issues, etc. Updated SDK's have now also been added, bringing the mod tools up to date for use with the latest update patch.

agreed, Draft. Doom 3 definitely sagged in the middle, but overall, i liked it a whole lot. The beginning and the end were both GREAT. I picked up RoE today for $19.99 at Target, and I can't wait until this weekend when I can play it.

You'll love ROE a lot more than plain o vanilla d3, that's for sure.

It wasn't *completely* shite, but it was very very bland. It felt like the entire game (or what I played, at least) was just an overlong first level or something. Is there any change to the scenery later on in the game or is it just pipes, steam and darkness all the way?

Works for old school I guess. My father's favorite game of the year. He played HL2 first, then played Doom3. He went out and bought the expansion and couldnt even remember that he had played through HL2.

At first he complained about the darkness, didn't hear back from him until after he beat it, and he loved it.

ROE is a lot more fun that regular D3, a lot tougher too.

Anyone know if the new EAX stuff improves D3 performance much?

Doubt it, since EAX only works with Doom3 since Creative extorted id to include it.

So that means the performance couldn't improve? Creative's marketing hype suggests otherwise:

Hardware based 3D audio
The benefits here are not simply from frame rate improvements. Since each audio effect is rendered by the hardware, each one is able to utilize Creative's hardware DSP for HRTF, ITD and distance effects. Simply put, the 3D sound is vivid and precise, over headphones, two speakers or more. Whereas the original game engine is limited to 5.1 output, the hardware based audio engine provides additional support for 6.1 and 7.1 output with full 3D panning between each speaker - you have to hear this to appreciate how cool Doom 3 can sound!

ROE is a lot more fun because there's a lot less closets and a lot less spawns in the back, the x2 shotty is a great weapon with great sound fx, levels are more varied, the special powers stack very well, etc.

But it's also alot easier.

But it's also alot easier.I dunno, I guess it would have broken the flow of the game or been out of place, but I wanted those statstics at the end. % monsters killed % item pickup % secret found. Still finishing vanilla doom3, though, I already purchased RoE.

Edit: Heh woo, just finished Doom3 vanilla. The boss battle at the end was freakin sweet. And I got to play it at 1920x1200 on my xps gen2 laptop :P
