For those who can't get enough E3 Booth Babes -- GameGal.com has posted their annual E3 "Hall of Shame" gallery (our fifth year!), exposing some of the wacky out-of-control examples of Booth Babe excess seen every year at the show.

Those were VERY shameful displays, indeed. I couldn't believe how shameful they were, I had to go back and check them a second, then a third time...they were simply too shameful to have been real. But repeated checks confirmed the outrageous shamefulness.

Haha...

I don't see whats so 'shameful' about them. The entire concept of 'Booth Babes' is silly, I'll agree. However, if the women doing it felt like it was so shameful they wouldn't do it, simple as that -- arguably I think every one of them would agree that it would be more shameful to work at fast food than being a 'Booth Babe'. Implying that this is shameful would imply these women don't have the capacity to realize this and are forced into it or something -- which is far more degrading to these women than being a 'Booth Babe'. It's shameful that GameGal.com feels the need to point out that some women choose to use sex appeal in their job as a bad thing -- which totally ignores the feelings of the women this whole debate is centered upon. Feminism is lame. GameGal.com is lame. Especially when a lot of the women don't even seem to agree with it -- as shown by the fact that theres no shortage of porn/strippers/hookers around. Women need to realize that its more shameful for them men than the women. Whos the ones with the real power? Men do whatever the hell beautiful women say.

I didn't mean to get off topic, but GameGal is completely wrong on this no matter how you look at it. Feministic bullshit. "Female Power!" "But don't use your body for things we don't agree with!".

Edit: clarified a sentence.

I'm hoping "shame" is just tongue-in-cheek here... but I rather doubt it considering it's GameGal.com. Nobody posing in the pictures looks "shamed". Nobody at the show seems to mind. Honestly, I don't see the fuss.

As for booth babes, the whole concept has always seemed rather lame. If you want porn, find porn. This whole timid "gamers care about women in skimpy outfits" mindset is part of what leads us to games like DoA 4 instead of more games like God of War. PG-13 is old news to most of today's core, older gamers.

Ahh yes, because they left the skimpy outfits out of Game of War, so it's more mature?
I thought the point of the article wasn't to bemoan booth babes, but to point out the more ridiculous ones.

Well, gamergirl is the site which posted the thing about using gaming accessories as vibrators. I think it's a bit of a stretch to think that they're prudish enough to think that a girl walking about in a metal bra is too risque. I think it's supposed to be joking.

I do agree this is not intended as feminist criticism, but you are thinking of gamegirladvance.com

I think they mean shameful for the company, and shameful for the idiots who fall for it.

No shame about the girls, just for the assholes who bow to the booth babe stupidity.

I heard some place had a 'anti-booth babe' that sounds like a great attention getter.

Yeah, I think there are some people here that understand neither the intent of the article or feminism.

Yea, I realize that now... I thought gamegal was actually serious for some reason.

Oh well.

I retract my gamegal.com is lame statement then.

MosBen:

I fully understand the intent of feminism, in theory its a great idea and is fairly obvious. It's how they go about things and how some of the so called 'feminists' are so gung ho about things. I guess I shouldn't have used the word feminism, as it's only some feminists that are the crazy ones.

crazy feminists suck, as they do not want equality, they want to completely dominate everyone into their view. I don't think feminism can exactly work, as I still don't think you should punch a girl, but its ok to punch a guy if he has a it coming.

Now that you understand bobbler, do you think that the whole booth babe thing is so stupid?

I say "I am there for games and swag, so keep your scantily clad girls outta my way", keep the scantily clad women where they belong... everywhere I look for them.

I said the idea of them is kinda silly, and I stick by that, but its not a huge deal either way. If companies thinks it benefits them to hire women to get barely dressed, then they'll keep doing it. It catches the eye of guys and then they end up walking towards the booth. It's like shiny things or strobe lights.

I'm waiting for a company to set up a booth with a bit "THERE ARE NO BOOTH BABES IN HERE! GO AWAY!" sign.

They'd get a ton of coverage for it. And really, the press are going to go, anyway. So how much does it REALLY help a company, to get a few unimportant geeks to wander in to slobber on the girls? Is tradeshow foot-traffic a big way to sell games? What's the point?

Since Lara Croft in the first tomb raider game they have found that T and A sells. Then they went out of controlwith the boob size in said games, so I sappose they stayed at a rate that people could stomach.

At the last few Tokyo Game Shows I actually had more fun watching the geeks get hot and bothered when in teh vicinity of "Booth Babes". It was great. I saw one guy at a booth for an upcoming James Bond game (set up like a glitzy bar, it was damn swish) Who just spent the whole 5 minute time with the game trying to chat up the girl giving the demo. I think he looked at the screen once, the rest of the time he spent checking out his companion like a scientist examining some new species of fungi.

But then Japan has more than its fair share of raging perverts anyhow...

This is a great thread. Yes, it's kinda tongue-in-cheek, in case anyone was still wondering.

But it's funny, there was somewhat less T&A on display this year -- maybe because with the new consoles the industry is trying for a more mainstream approach, with all the added attention from the non-games media.

Didn't someone announce they were doing that this year? I wonder how it worked out.

Some company had the anti-booth babes, which were old guys dressed as women. I can't tell you what company it was, if that is any indication of how well it worked.
