gamesindustry.biz (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/) is reporting that Microsoft has signed up Lions Gate (The Descent, Hard Candy, etc.) to deliver high definition content via the burgeoning Xbox Live Video Marketplace.

You can read more here (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=22108).

"This partnership is great for Lionsgate. The Xbox gamer is the same moviegoer who wants to watch Saw III or Crank," commented Jon Ferro, executive vice president for Lionsgate.

"That is why we are so thrilled to bring Lionsgate films to Xbox Live Video Marketplace. Bringing our content to this audience makes perfect sense and reflects our commitment to remain at the cutting edge of content distribution to new media platforms," he added.
Dear Microsoft - about that larger HDD...

Lionsgate currently supports Blu-Ray and not HD-DVD. It looks like they're hedging their bets a little with downloadable content.

Sounds good. Honestly, much of Lionsgate's movies have fallen into the "not quite good enough to see in a theater" category for me.

Anyone take offense to this statement?

I find it offensive captainspankypants.

No. Most XBox owners are into action games like GoW. GoW. A game to me, which is rather boring. Even so, Crank is a very good Jason Statham action movie.

While your question might have been rhetoric, I want to point out that they indeed described the demographic.

These movies are timed no? They don't stay on your HDD? (yeah I haven't used movies on 360 because we do not have them in Europe yet)

In some cases, Lionsgate only supports PS3 (rather than Blu-Ray as a whole) :)

Nope. I loved SAW III. Great end to the series.

Hahaha...but it's not over yet.

Indeed it isn't. Saw 4 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0890870/) will be out just in time for Halloween.

This is definitely a good pairing though as Lionsgate's super cheap horror movies are the kind that rarely merit a theater viewing but would definitely be something I'd check out in giving the digital distribution method a shot.

Yea Hard Candy was really good....probably not if you are a 'typical xbox 360' consumer though.

So... do external USB HDs work when connected to the 360? I guess having owned my 360 for more than half a year now, I ought to know the answer but I don't.

I don't understand why anyone needs a larger HDD for downloading these movies. They delete themselves after you watch them. I've even downloaded a bunch of shows and deleted them, because there's no need to keep them locally. If I want to watch them again, I can just re-download, and it's no big deal because you can start viewing it after about 2 minutes while it's still downloading. If they put out a larger HDD, I won't buy it because I just don't need it.

That little girl must have had superhuman strength in some of the parts of that movie.

Just personal preference, I really thought Hard Candy was a bad movie, it was kind of intriguing in the begging, but I thought it turned pretty stupid towards the end.

i tried DLing superman returns in HD and the shit took forever. i've been going on and off with it and its around 7% but that was after a good 2/3 hours. i remember hearing problems of slow DLs in the beginning, but i thought they were fixed. anyone else experiencing problems like this still?

Since I'm reading this at work I turn off the stylesheet in firefox so that this site looks less like a gaming forum... :o

To complete the threadjack, yes, Hard Candy does rock. Tough to watch at times, but a great movie.

I downloaded it the day it came out and I think it took 4 or 5 hours so 2/3 for 7% is way too long. Did you do a speed check on your service to see if it's slow or that specific download is slow?

EDIT: tried DLing again and its going at a good speed now
