Pro-G (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/previews/pid/531/66/) has some hands on impressions of Nintendo’s ultra cute dog simulator for the Nintendo DS.

How a game can bring about affection almost immediately is a credit to the game's creators, but you honestly can't help but grin as this cute little pup bounds up to your screen, looking for some attention. Interacting with the dog using the stylus is extremely satisfying too, allowing you a full range of activities.

Believe it or not this is the one game that will finally make me give in and get a DS. I wonder if it'll work like a Tamagatchi...if I don't play for say like two weeks will the dog be dead/run away?

One dog got too friendly with another, you say? Is one of the tools a hose?

Yeah, it was Dogz I think (and they had Catz). Nintendogs reminds me a lot of it, but seems to defintely have more features and better graphics. I'm gonna keep my eye on it and maybe pick it up.

Seems to me like this is 1990's tamagotchi rehash crap.

Obviously not. Considering how many people are saying they don't want it here.

My nightmare is a little 8 year old asking why his dog is humping his friends.

Yes I am sure Nintendo is worried about this game and the PSP, considering these numbers from Japan last week:

Software:
1. PS2 Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song - Square Enix - 67,000 (315,000)
2. DS Naruto Saikyou Ninja Daikesshu 3 for DS - Tomy - 30,000 (147,000)
3. PS2 Mobile Suit Gundam One Year War - Bandai - 28,000 (296,000)
4. DS nintendogs Shiba & friends - Nintendo - 27,000 (141,000)
5. DS nintendogs Dachs & friends - Nintendo - 19,000 (92,000)
6. DS nintendogs Chihuahua & friends - Nintendo - 18,000 (82,000)
7. PS2 Baseball Live 2005 - Namco - 18,000 (86,000)
8. DS Touch! Kirby - Nintendo - 16,000 (178,000)
9. GC Fire Emblem Souen no Kiseki - Nintendo - 13,000 (138,000)
10. GBA Rockman Zero 4 - Capcom - 11,000 (62,000)

Hardware:

DS - 67,863
PS2 - 38,629
PSP - 33,981
GBASP - 22,633
GCN - 5,655
GBA - 431
Xbox - 169

Look at all those PSP games burning up the Top 10!! :D

Putting aside the fact that Zelda is coming out later this year, I must say that Nintendogs is definitely going to rake in some major cash when it launches. I'm probably going to hold out a little longer on getting a DS since I don't do very much traveling, but I must say that I'm very impressed where Nintendo is going in mobile world.

Now, I don't mean to be a jackass or anything (or maybe I do), but TomO isn't holding a gun to your heads and forcing you all to read the preview. If you're going to post a bunch of nonsense, then go start your own damn thread and rant all you want about how great your life is without a Nintendo DS. People that choose to post trash like Blue does are obviously out to gain attention and spark conflicts, to which I can only reply with "grow the hell up."

I have three children at home myself and I for one will say that too few child friendly games are made. I hear even the next SOnic game will feature the character shooting a gun. This is one of the games that will have me getting one of them one for Christmas, I gurantee it.

I played this at E3 and it's incredibly cute and endearing. The visual response you get while petting your dog with the stylus is quite amazing. It's good fun.

Of course I can't wait for UT2k7, Gears of War, GTA4, etc., but I can't deny the charm of games like Nintendogs, Electroplankton, Okami, and the like. I enjoy new types of games, that's all I can say.

I think it looks kinda cute, and I'm not usually into this cutesy-pie shit. Guess I just like dogs.

I can't believe anybody would be excited about this game...

Do you get giddy at the thought of a new Sailor Moon episode too?! :P

Oh jeez, and they're gonna release like 50 version of the game? One per breed? Blatent money raking.

I don't understand. Why not get a real pet?

Probably because they cost more money than a fake pet? They shit, they barf, they require food, they make noises, they knock shit over, they piss on carpets, they smell bad, etc, etc. Theres plenty of reasons why getting a real pet is a bad idea.

It's a cute game. It's having a pet without the responsibility that many people aren't able to put forth (be it because of having a job and a life or because they are just lazy).

My 10 year old cat just got back from the vet and ended up costing me $500. Plus this is the second time he has cost me that much (unrelated illness), plus he is going to cost me $60/month in heart medication for the rest of his life!!!! That is why you want a virtual pet Not!!! a real one!!

It's been said before and it bears repeating. Not every goddamn game in the world is made to suit you. Do you go and complain on IMDB about every movie that comes out that isn't made for your demographic? Is it that hard to understanmd that someone out there aside from the 18-30 demographic is their target?

mister_slim

I'd just like to say that if you aren't interested in this game, that's fine. If you don't see why anyone would be, stop ruining gaming. You are the reason that Sands of Time, Ico, and Beyond Good & Evil didn't sell.

Although I left IGN years ago because of it, these boards could use a little more mod intervention. I've only been posting since April, but after visiting for so long... I must agree with you and say that this nonsense drives me up the friggin wall. People just don't learn I guess.

If people did that on IMDB, they'd just get pushed out the door. The people that run it know damn well that they have one of the most solid sites out there and they know that people are going to keep coming back regardless of the naysayers.

why not have EA implement a post ranking system ala /. and maybe even go as far as a user ranking system based on post content?

See the triangle with an exclaimation at the lower left? If there's a bad post, report it. Mods will review it.

I generally refute the post with a reply of my own. EA is a great place for rational opinion posting; of course there's the expected emotional outburst here and there, but I generally prefer to suppress/delete only when things get out of hand. Other moderators may vary.

Back to topic: Personally I like strong breeds. Dogs that are bred for pet lovers, such as the wiener dogs, are helpless qxP

I'd get it if I owned a DS, looks like the best game for the system so far. Still I'm waiting for a more compact version to come out before I would buy one, like the SP compared to the original GBA.

I said about the Sims that the gaming community would be divided into those who can see how to truly embrace the mainstream and those who don't "get" the sims.

Frankly the attitude of some on here is what traps the PC industry into endless iterations of Shooter X and RTS Y. Try something new - it won't kill you or make you "uncool"...

Some people are just so cool, I hope that getting fucked with in this thread chased some of the cool kids out. Having a closed mind only hurts, and it breaks my heart to think of how badly incredible games like Beyond Good and Evil sold because of these pricks. If you don't like it then don't like it, but don't hate it without reason. That is just ignorant and the apparent lack of interest in originality and inovation that gaming "community" has been showing as of late is the reason for the constant stream of cookie cutter games. DO we really neeed another GTA clone that isn't going to be near as good as GTA? Or a bunch of FPSs that all play the same. Ah, fuck it.

I would be more excited about this game if it were Pokemon I could care for instead of dogs.

I am not being sarcastic. I would genuinely and earnestly like a game that showed the "softer" side of Pokemon collecting.

Maybe have it be about Nurse Judy (is that her name? I really only pay attention to the monsters themselves).

Anyhow, this game has actually re-opened the bidding (against the PSP) to see which portable is going to steal my money.

Interesting. I bought all three of those games, still own them, and think this game looks like a waste of space. Good thing I ruined gaming.

Why aren't you interested in this game? Don't like dogs? Don't like not having a plot and stated objective?
