I just got word from a source in distribution that a whole bunch of Wii systems and accessories, including those impossible to find Wii-motes, should be hitting retail shelves late this week or early next week. Those of you still looking for either the system or accessories should start looking come Thursday.

Hey, G35, have you seen any Wii's at Best Buy? I'm willing to drive anywhere in LA County to use my gift card/cash for one...

I swear, the Wii is IMPOSSIBLE to find in West Los Angeles area...been looking for one for two months now and have just about given up. Figures they'll have more in stores the week I'm out of town *eyeroll* Think I'll just wait to get one till they have a game really worth playing at this point.

Are they also shipping to Europe? Because here in the Netherlands I can only find empty shelves with maybe happy feet or something else not interesting. Never seen a Wii, wiimote, accessory, or any good games... And yes, I've been to quite a few shops.

Same in the Sf Bay area, but I was lucky one day and came across 3 at target. I bought those buggers up fast, even though the cashier told me they are only suppose to have a limit of 1 per customer. Give me a break...limit on controllers?!

It isn't so bad over here in Ventura County. I have seen a number of wiichucks and wiimote's out here. Target's seem to have the best stocked supplies. Iwould recommend either the Simi or Moorpark Target stores.

My kids got cash from my wife's mom for Christmas (removing any remaining doubt that she had given up) - and they decided to pool up and buy a Wii.
So far they have Zelda (excellent post Christmas Target sale) and extra Remotes and Nunchuks ... just need the system.
I've got a list by my phone I call every day ... maybe this week I'll get lucky :)

Hahaha, I'm doing the same thing. I've got 2 nunchuks, Zelda and Elebits but no actual Wii console yet - though I have a list of stores I call every day.

I did it with the 360, but haven't with the Wii. I'll probably pick an extra controller and chuck up if I see one before the console, but that's it. And a shitload of Nintendo Points.
Hopefully, Thursday is my lucky day. I want to play Wii Sports.

I hope to hell that there really will be a huge supply of Wii consoles. I'm getting pretty sick of people asking me if I want to sell my Wii! :D

I managed to snag a Wii and one extra Wii-mote + Nunchuck. I've been desperate for 2 more Wii-motes + Nunchucks. There have been shipments of Wii's (which sell out instantly) but I have yet to catch a single shipment of controllers anywhere.

All I want is points, baby. I have an otherwise-worthless GameStop giftcard just warming in my wallet. Maybe I'll just get a refund on it and buy the points online, since they're taxed either way. :/
At the rate I'm getting through Zelda, I should be able to hold out for the super-sweet VC games.
My condolences to the Wii-less!

Oh man. I thought I was the only one this insane. I have a Wiimote, nunchuck and classic controller as well as Elebits and Zelda but alas, no Wii.
I would LOVE to get a Wii this week... Thursday seems to be the day the Wal-Marts in my area get their stuff and I was already about to spend the day pestering the guys there. I'd get it from my usual EB but I'm sick of them only getting 2-3 systems and not letting me have one!
All of that said, I'm not going to cry if I don't get it. I've basically resigned myself to not getting one until at least the end of this month, though that doesn't stop me from zipping into the local stores whenever I'm nearby.
I don't bother calling though. On the one hand, it would save me a trip, but I already feel bad for asking the same 3-4 people at the same 3-4 stores the same question every other day (and being one of 3800 people who probably called that same day doing the same thing) and figure that if I'm going to hassle someone, I'll hassle them in person.
Plus, given the amount of time it would take me to drive to any store in the area that actually has a Wii, if I'm not physically there when the shipments come in, there's little hope for me to actually get there in time to beat the other vultures who are circling.

Now, does this mean that there's just one giant lump of Wiis hitting the stores everywhere or is this the start of a steady distribution of systems? If this means we'll have Wiis more or less available on a regular basis, then I'm happy.
If it's another big batch of Wiis that goes out and then we have another drought for a few weeks/months, then I'll get grumpy.
I was also wondering if the whole Wiimote strap recall had anything to do with the scarcity. I know that we had Christmas and the post Christmas gift-card frenzy, but those factors aside, did the recall actually have any effect on how many systems were available?

Not really Wii related.. my friend went wii hunting yesterday and the local walmart of course had no Wii's but it had some PS3's which apparently had been there a few days according to the store clerk. Woo looks like those PS3's are selling like hot cakes! /sarcasm =/

Well, I haven't heard anything about this, but I know with my store no matter how many we've gotten as soon as they hit the floor they're gone, so if indeed we are getting some, if you're not there when they hit the floor, fat chance of getting one.
Everything but the Wii, baby....in the meantime, it's fun using the wiimote as a mouse for my pc. Hope they get even more precise 'sensor' bar computation going for the windows drivers :)
Hmmm...I've been looking to learn maxscript for a while now...I wonder if I could get input from the wiimote's axes to map to movement in max...way to move those verts :)
Anyone know a quick and dirty intro to maxscript? And by that I don't mean 'go read the help files'; I mean something written for someone who has programmed/scripted before, but not for max...a 'here's the stuff I wish someone had told me before /I/ started learning'-kinda thing.

Yeah Wiimote as a mouse is pretty cool, but what I would really like to see is nunchuck support, then some amazing genius could set up Goldeneye: Source to run using the Wiimote. It would rock my world.

Heh, dangerous advice. A friend was calling around for a Wii before xmas...
An irritated retailer told him to wait a couple of days... so he did. Turns out that he ended up missing the ONE day that a shipment actually came in...
"Oh we got them yesterday but they were sold out" -- those words were enough to make a grown man cry :(

Store employees are getting surly...
I can't say I blame them. I worked at one of the biggest comic book stores in the country and I remember the constant stream of whiny kids and angry parents during the initial craze over the Pokemon trading card game...It was a nightmare.
Once in a while we got them in, and they were gone SO fast...then for several hours people would come in and accuse us of lying to them about it because "their friend had gotten them here just an hour ago."
Then we even boutht them from semi-shady suppliers that had them marked up above retail, and we marked them up maybe a buck over that. Not unreasonable on our part. you should have heard the parents on that one:
"Are these really $6.99"
"Yes"
"But, they are 2.99 at Walgreens"
"Then you should definetly buy them, that's a good deal"
"but, they dont have any"
Then they are NOT 2.99 at Walgreens if they don't have any!
Jeez, years later I am still angry about this stuff! Anyway, be cool to your local minimum wage earning retailer during your Wii-hunt...it's not their fault.

This is good news... for my parents.
I visited them for a few weeks over Winter Break and brought my Wii, and before I knew it, my parents were hooked on Wii Sports. Like, I'd leave the house and come back in the evening, and my parents would be playing bowling or tennis or golf.
I'll have to give my dad a call to tell him the news. :p

We need to have a Wii Code thread... I've added a bunch of people to my Wii already, but we need a centrally located Wii Code thread.
ANYWAY, I posted my story over here (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23628) but just to recap:
Awesome. I got mine around noon today. I had gone into my regular EB yesterday and was chatting with the manager about my excursions around the area to find a Wii. He said, "Hey, you're our best customer. Next time a shipment comes in, I'll call you and put it in the back for you."
I almost kissed him.
That was yesterday. Today I got the call around noon that they had one in and I zipped down. There was actually one more left at the store aside from mine but the next guy who walked in picked it up. I felt bad for the next guy who came in. He had been at the store about half an hour before the shipment came in and wandered away. By the time he walked back to the store, they had sold all of the systems. I though he was going to break into tears.
Suffice it to say, it pays to make friends with your local store manager :)

My local store manager friend's store doesn't get any Wiis! They're "too small of a store" to do enough business to be able to order any Wiis at this point. Bah humbug.
Anyways, I'm going to drive my girlfriend to the airport in 20 minutes, so I'll be checking on the way back. It seems that most stores get their shipments around noon?

So after some calling, the Circuit City here got a shipment in this morning. No word on whether there are any Wiis--the shipment won't be unloaded until about noon or one (one to two hours from now), they said. However, I am heading there asap to wait around. I'm now really hopeful because of Gitaroomaan's post! I'll have some mangas and my DS to keep me company, which may be to my detriment now that I think about it. I think that if I wait around for a possible shipment of wiis while reading manga I'll be a 5-star nerd, and they might call some people to come in and kick my ass.
"I swear, I'm just waiting around this nerdily because I just dropped my girlfriend off at the airport! I need this Wii!"
"Riiiiight. Allright boys, it's wedgie and swirlie time for Poindexter over here."
Meanwhile some frat guy is going to waltz in and snag one while I'm screaming into toilet water.

Hee hee. Be careful about those frat guy stereotypes. The last time I used one I had quite the fallout from that oppressed part of society.
Good luck on your quest for a Wii. I hope you get one! They're REALLY fun (I was up till 4am last night and my wife had me rousted out of bed to look after the Spiglet at around 6:30 this morning... arg!... But it was worth it!)

Arrr! Circuit City was a bust, and then waiting at Target for an hour and a half also turned up nothing!
The quest continues, morale is low, but there is still some hope on the horizon!
p.s. one of my best friends was in a frat, so no real harm intended. I meant it mostly as frat guys, as I know from experience, pretty much only play Madden or other games like it that I hate. And in my worst nightmares they'll get the Wii and Madden and call it a day.

I had given up on getting a Wii today. I was in my local mall, and as I walk past FYE, what do I see in their window, behind the registers? Three Wii's, all ready to be purchased. Down side? It was force bundled, you had to buy two games. Positive side to this, however, is that you could choose the games you could get, so I was able to rationalize the purchase :) ,

You'll have to post your Wii code so I can add you to my parade o' Miis.
By the way, I have the willpower of a gnat. I almost picked up Trauma Center: Second Opinion yesterday but resisted. Then I almost picked it up this afternoon. I resisted again.
I went out again this evening with one of the guys from work to help him buy a laptop and what do I see while I'm at the store, Trauma Center: Second Opinion for $10 less than everywhere else in the GTA. Sigh. I know when I'm beaten... I picked it up.
