Eurogamer has this short item (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=59343) about the new DOA Volleybal by Team Ninja. Apparently we get more sports, better graphics and expanded "animations".

DOAX2 (working title) currently runs on Xbox behind the scenes, but development will be moved over to Xbox 360 according to a report on IGN, and the game will feature better graphics and physics (for both balls and breasts, we imagine).

So team Ninja is moving to 360. Ninja Gaiden 360 here we come...

Mmmmm, breast physics. Did anyone actually play the first one? Is there an actual game there?

The first one was absolute arse. The Volleyball wasn't even that good and it was mostly a bunch of very simple minigames. Team Ninja are a weird developer, no question about it. Ninja Gaiden is awesome, one of my favourites of this generation but everything else they make (DOA-everything) is just third-tier rubbish. I don't know why they waste their time or talent on it.

Most of the girlfriends of my friends played this game a lot. Strange?... I guess they didn't mind the half nude women and just liked to collect all the gear. Of course the boyfriends didn't mind watching ....

Girls dig dress up games. Pay attention Nintendo!

Yeah, honestly people talk about games as if they're supposed to be designed for them. DOAX was not my cup of tea, but that doesn't make it a bad game. It wasn't going for a volleyball sim, it was an arcadey volleyball game with loads of collecting to do on top of that. Personally I don't like collecting things, but plenty of other people do. It wasn't a rubbish game, it just wasn't the type of game I like to play.

I found DoAX fun... The volleyball was actually entertaining, though extremly simple. It was all about getting your timing down. Plus shopping for new items every day, and screwing around in the casino. And yeah, beautiful women. I mean sure, maybe it really wasn't worth the $50 I paid for it when it came out, but I'd easily price it at $30.

It just bothers me when people can't tell the difference between "bad" games and games they just don't like. It reminds me of another thread where somebody said all platformers suck and that they always have and always will. To disregard an entire genre as crap like that is just rediculous. I'm not saying that's happening here, but there are an awful lot of gamers out there that just can't seem to distinguish what they don't like from things that are actually flawed.

Exactly, you need to appreciate games, even if they aren't your cup of tea. (Personally most racing, sports and hardcore-RTS games turn me off, but I can appreciate when I see one of them was done well.) Though I do wonder if a game should always be reviewed by someone who likes that type of game or someone who doesn't. Or should we see more multi-person reviews?

no, what makes DOA Volleyball a bad game is that theres no interaction. you press A, and A again, and A again, boom , spike.

it should be called DOA dress-up.

I think they're both useful. People that are fans of the genre might tend to overlook flaws in a game that they're predisposed to like because of the genre while people that aren't fans of the genre might be a little more scrutinizing. The fan of the genre might give us a better idea of what kind of fun can be had playing the game while the non fan can keep us a bit more realistic about its flaws. Neither is really dispositive on its own.

Edit: Well Chandler, it may not be your cup of tea, but that doesn't make it a bad game. Some people like puzzle games, some people don't. Personal taste isn't a good rubric for deciding "good" or "bad". Some people *like* to play dress up with their video games. I don't, but that doesn't make it a bad game style.

I don't see how Team Ninja making DOA volleyball on the 360 means anything more than Team Ninja making DOA volleyball on the 360.

But Nintendogs isn't a game! :p

A couple of recent incidents would be that Gamespy Donkey Konga 2 reviewer and I also remember a preview of Psychonauts where the writer said it was the only platformer he'd ever liked.

I think game journalism just reflects the reality of gamers.

What I like best about this site is how everybody bitches that there's no new ideas for games, but when a game that is different comes out, like Nintendogs, or Sims, or DOAX, everybody bitches about it.

DOAX was a nice little game. It wasn't a twitchfest, but then I fail to see how the game would have been made better by the volleyball being harder!

It's either your "thing" or it isn't. And I suspect that with a SLIGHT tweak to the theme it would have the female market eating out of Team Ninja's hand.

I liked the first for simply novelty value. It was one of those things I had to rent but would never buy.
