From the "Pat Yourself on the Back" dept, Child's Play went mroe than $500k beyond their goal to hit $1,024,500.
1-5-07 The Final Update
You guys did it. You broke a million dollars in just over two months. Child's Play started as a way to show how good our community can be, but it's turned into something greater than we could have ever imagined. We're making an impact on lives. See you next year.
That's it fellas! The last update for the year! Coming in 2007, CP3: The Search for $2,000,000.
Pretty amazing what two guys with a popular webcomic can do. Of course, you helped do it too. Yes you, you know who you are. I love you. C'mere, I wanna lay a wet one on ya, ya big child-help'n lug.

Child's Play is the biggest reason I'm proud of the modern gaming community each year. I know firsthand how nice it is to have these distractions in waiting rooms, etc. in a scary situation.

Wouldn't it be CP4?
I thought this was their third year? Could be wrong.
Regardless, amazing news.

Huh, could be. But the Star Trek reference was more important to me. :D

Child's Play is a great charity that does good. Even though I wonder when they will get sued by whoever owns the movie series.

It's amazing what they're able to pull off with this every year. One year I'll get my ass out to Seattle and attend their charity dinner for this.

Yeah, plus their logo (a dual shock with a red cross inside) might get them in trouble as well. The Red Cross is really protective of that logo. Of course, when it's a charity helping sick kids, it's probably hard for these folks to bring the hammer down.
This is awesome! I did not donate this year but will surely next year!

It would be four. They started in '04, when it was just for their local children's hospital and they had people mail them items directly. I remember they had pictures of the piles and piles of games and consoles they received that year and I was so impressed that I promised myself I'd give to the program every year from then on. It's a great charity.
Edit: Woops, it's actually CP4 THIS year, they started back in 03. Date confusion, FTW.

Actually right now it's a green cross, maybe they were already contacted by the Red Cross or advised by their lawyers to change it.

Funny. When I read it, I thought of, "Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money"

Yeah, I think they were almost sued by the red cross.

They need to get the charity into the DoD's Combined Federal Campaign. Just having their charity listed in the booklet nets them a lot of exposure from government employees (albeit mostly non-gamer).

Awesome idea! Plenty of us military folk are big gamers ;)

No - the Red Cross just asked them to take it down, and they obliged. Just because they're protective of their trademark (and rightly so, the Red Cross needs in many cases to be the only people looking like that to keep their people alive in hot situations) doesn't mean their finger is ever-hovering over a "sue" button.
It was just a matter of asking and responding. That's all.
There's already been a lot of discussion on the logo, which they made specifically so that they would not have any legal troubles. This means that probably they have permission to use the dual shock controller, as they seem confident it's not going to be an issue, especially considering they changed it because someone took issue with a previous one.

I'm probably in the minority here but I'm very much looking forward to another 10 months or so of their updates being video game instead of charity related. I didn't start nor did I continue to view their site for the sake of helping sick kids, if I'd wanted to do that I'd be supporting the Ronald McDonald house. If anyone has a problem with that... well, I also hate the Cardboard Tube Samurai... I mean, honestly, that is funny how?

I seriously hope you are joking, otherwise you get the narrow-minded ribbon of the day, and it isn't even noon (eastern).
