Ninja Gaiden II for PS3? [Archive]

This could be a huge loss for Microsoft's next genration console. It looks like Ninja Gaiden 2 (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/617/617879p1.html) may not be an XBox 360 exclusive, or may not be on XBox 360 at all!An interesting thing happened on the way to speak with Team Ninja head Tomonobu Itagaki -- Ninja Gaiden 2 could not be confirmed on Xbox 360. Long assumed to be headed to Microsoft's next-gen system, it seems either Team Ninja isn't ready to make the 360 destination official or Gaiden 2 is secretly being developed for PS3 or GameCube Revolution. When we asked how NG 2 would improve on the 360, the translator let us know that Team Ninja would not confirm the next Gaiden for Xbox 2. That doesn't mean it isn't coming to 360, but it certainly opens the possibility for development on one of the other next-gen systems.

It makes you wonder why they wouldn't confirm it's existance for 360, unless...they just weren't ready to confirm it's existance at the time.

I seem to remember Itagaki pointing out that he was developing for the Xbox because it was the most powerful hardware. If that is the case it is hardly surprising if he were to start developing for PS3. Not that it matters to me as I will own both.

Nah, that's just a bunch of BS. Itagaki is, how do they say, Microsoft's "lapdog"? and he will never jump to Sony's camp.

Besides let's think about something else.

On 360 Ninja Gaiden 2 has:

- large following (maybe not as large as Itagaki wishes) - almost every Ninja Gaiden/ Xbox fan will surely buy 360 and Ninja Gaiden 2
- no competition at all - no DMC4, no God of War 2, just Ninja Gaiden 2 alone in the action genre

On PS3 Ninja Gaiden 2 has:

- large amount of similiar games: DMC4, Castlevania, God of War 2 etc.
- close to zero followers - why should former PS2ers buy NG2 when they even didn't play Ninja Gaiden 1?

The only way Gaiden 2 will end on PS3 is by means of a very large money hat from Sony. Larger than Microsoft's.

This really isn't anything new. Tecmo was also secretive about which platform the original Ninja Gaiden was going to as well.

TI: Basically, yes, but it's still way too early to be talking about that. First, I want you to beat the crap out of the AI in Ninja Gaiden Black. Then, you can bring it up [laughs]. I'm sure you can tell by looking at the trailer, but we have changed the enemy placements starting as early as the first Ninja Fortress stage. Isn't it crazy how Murai now has white ninjas fighting alongside him?

Itagaki said a whiles back that he wanted to push Project Cronos and DOA4 out before he worked on NG2 in earnest. I think he just leaps from project to project but only spends significant time with one in particular when it's coming down to the crunch.

I would be pissed if my favorite Xbox game would go to PS3. However Ninja Gaiden for me is a system seller. I would buy a PS3 for that.

What sort of logic is this based on? Oh they haven't announced it yet so maybe its coming out on PS3? Well maybe its coming out for all of them, or maybe they just don't want to announce it until they've sold a few copies of Ninja Gaiden Black? Or gasp, maybe they just aren't going to make a sequel?

Hey I heard that God of War 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Tekken 32, and Killzone 3 haven't been announced for PS3 yet...maybe they're planning on jumping ship to 360.

Yeah, this makes NO sense. Just because they won't confirm 360 yet, that is no way should mean they're jumping to PS3, especially if you look at the history of the team involved (and their usual responses to that kind of questioning).

This is coming to 360, you can quote ME on that.

Other explanations:

1) This is a really good way to get people talking about NG2.
2) Noting how cold your head is, and how warm and comfy those money-hats look, isn't a bad way to get some lovin'.
3) Developers are as split as gamers on the new consoles, predict a blow-out this generation, and don't want to pick the wrong camp.

And on the one hand, while there are more games like NG on the PS2/3, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's nice to know that your game will be on hardware owned by fans of the genre. Not having competition is good, but so is being on a platform with a lot of people who already love similar games.

Team ninja guy is a massive graphics whore. That's all he ever fucking talks about. I think he lucked out with nija gaiden because it was also a great game as well, but DOA and it's spawn offs are just graphical showcawses. How can this guy not be getting a little chubby for sony?

obviously, developers realize how much better the ps3 is and when the best hardware combined with the best game library plus the largest loyal fan base, the ps3 is obviously the only choice there really is.

He always said he’d work on the most powerful hardware available. If this turns out to be the PS3 I wouldn’t be surprised to see him move there. If he doesn’t I can only assume that in some way it doesn’t allow him to make the games he wants to make and is actually less powerful in practice than the 360. He doesn’t make games for money hats and he isn’t MS’s loyal lapdog as some people have said, he makes the games he wants to make for the system that he wants to make them for.

It doesn’t matter about the following he's developed, that following will be wherever he ends up. Team Ninja went from Playstation to Dreamcast to PS2 and to Xbox, and they’re going to have a launch title for the 360.

hey Draft, although you're obviously Bill Gate's Lover-boy and very confused, i'm with you on that one. Competition is good, and I'd hate to see the Xbox 360 sink like the Atari Jaguar. The 360 needs as many exclusives possible to keep it competitive and therefore, purchase worthy to some people.

Errr.. Ninja Gaiden Black is coming out in a few months. He probably doesn't want to announce anything right now. It is not because he doesnt announce it, that it will be a PS3 game.

Here's an idea. Stop making DOA games, they're pretty much the same thing over and ober again. 2, Make Ninja Gaiden for PS3 and Xbox 360, then he'll know which system is better for graphics. (remember there was one DOA game for the PS2)

Something like that. He obviously loves one camp more than the other. I dont see that with you lately. There's a few people on here that I really cant tell what company's machine they like more. Yes, because Sony's going to sway me with their exclusive....oh, wait, what do they have left now? Gran Turismo series which I couldn't give 2 shits about and more Jax and Rachet and Clank games. Who-fucking-hoo. Oh, and they get Metal Gear first (which always just gets ported anyways).

I tend not to make determinations of one's personality based on their photo, but between Hideo Kojima and J Allard, Allard definately looks like a bigger dick, especially with the bald dome and ear ring. Tycho (http://www.penny-arcade.com/) did not exaggerate when he compared Allard to a pirate. Not that what a person looks like should affect one's purchasing choices.

But I bet the Rev will get Ninja Gaiden 1 & 2 (the NES ones)!

I don't like Kojima's games that much but he's a smart guy. Allard? eh. But Robbie Bach should be shot.

As far as I'm concerned the Ninja gaiden 1-4 (I think there were 4 on the NES, I know there was at least 3, because I had 1-3) were better than the xbox 1 -- I miss the side scrollers =/

Not saying Ninja Gaiden for xbox was bad, quite the opposite -- but its hard to compete with the classics.

There were 3 on the NES, FYI.

An argument could be made that better games are made when the hardware doesn't let them just do anything, it makes them work harder with what they have. 3D graphics spoiled many developers IMHO (not all, but many).
