This Christmas, Bungie gave some troops in Iraq a nice little present (http://www.younewb.com/index.php/2006/12/31/whats-better-than-getting-to-play-halo-3/) in the form of some Halo 3 beta action.Recently Bungie developers surprised our US soldiers in Iraq with the game that everyone is waiting to play. After so much negative news surrounding the war in Iraq, this treat for our soldiers couldn’t have arrived at a better time. Especially for the ones that didn’t get to visit home for Christmas.

According to a US soldier nicknamed “Cowboy,” Bungie will have it set up 24 hours a day for three days. He gives away some control configs and also mentions the controller menu showing a button named “classified” which he speculates hasn’t been added to the game yet.

That's a nice little treat. It's a shame they couldn't be home for the holidays though.

maybe its time we told our companies to step up.

where i work i talked to a skinny short white boy who was scared about going to iraq.
i told him maybe he should try to get out of going.
he smiled and told me he could'nt because he was a warrior[and at that point i knew he was].

Nice effort by Bungie, tho from the pics and vids i saw running, the game doesn't look that different from halo 2 in terms of gfx, nowhere near the quality of GoW and Resistance.

Why bring Michael Moore into this?

The only thing Moore has said is that the policy to go to Iraq was one based on lies, and wasn't thought out very well.

You know why he says that? Because he supports the troops.

I'm no huge fan of what's going on overseas myself, but bringing that kind of discussion into this thread is tasteless. We have Out of Topic forums here for a reason, if you'd like to make a political statement, use them.

Yep I agree, I'm not going to get further into the Moore debate actually I shouldn't have even brought him into this, he was just the easiest target.

As I said Bungie and MS did an awesome thing despite how anyone feels about the War.

Yeah sure if your company has games as highly anticipated as halo, otherwise I wouldn't think the service men would be as interested :p

If by some weird twist of fate I ever find myself as a grunt in some parallel universe, I'd make damn sure to pack a Psp or a Ds with me. Ammo, gas mask, 1st aid kit or water be damned.

Not that it matters, but yeah, the games my company make do pretty well on the anticipation front. Frankly, though, why does that matter? I think the troops would appreciate a variety of games and genres. The point is to show our appreciation and try to make their time there a bit more bearable.
