Shacknews (http://www.shacknews.com/extras/e3_2005/051905_perfectdarkzero_imprs.x) has some impressions up of the Perfect Dark 0 Demo. They do say it's a big graphical improvement over the MTV "demo" and screenshots floating around, but no where near what some sites are saying. Graphics aside, there is actual gameplay involved with this game! An interesting point on weapons: you're given four slots to hold guns. Pistols require one slot and you could theoretically carry four pistols. A machine gun requires two, so carry two of those or one with two pistols. The plasma rifle requires three; in the end, it's up to you to manage what you carry around. Weapons also come equipped with some rather interesting abilities. For instance, one gun had an x-ray scanner on it. This allowed the user to view through walls via x-ray and find players as the skeleton would show up. Another weapon ability was to cloak the player, only leaving a very faint outline of your body frame visible. One last ability shown was a threat analyzer which turned your view into a blue blob but highlighting objects in red that were a possible threat, such as a mine.

Interesting, requires a bit of strategy then.

What's interesting about this list of different weapon features is that they are presented like they're new features, as opposed to things we already saw in Perfect Dark. I mean, am I the only one who remembers the infuriatingly rad Farsight rifle?

interesting about the gun slots considering the first game made it's mark with tons of guns.

I like the limited gun approach compared to the Unreal Tournament "I'm a walking arsenal carrying 10 guns and I can still run and jump like a madman somehow" approach.

As long as there ARE "tons of guns" and that you have to make decisions and tough choices about what to carry.

That's one thing that makes Halo interesting. There's strategy behind deciding what to carry instead of just grabbing everything in sight.

Rare wouldn't make a sequel to Perfect Dark and not include the Farsight and Laptop guns, would they?

They've already said the laptop is in; someone was using it in its "sentry gun" configuration. Can't remember where I read it now....

The Farsight was pretty damn powerful, though. I wouldn't be surprised if they took it out. I mean, it was instant death from anywhere on the map, though walls no less.

With the farsight gun, all that was really needed was to keep moving - if you stood still then yes, it did suck. As long as your opponenet kept an eye on your screen (so the opponent could tell if you were dialing in on his location) and started jumping or dodging to the side, then there were few problems. Like with a regular sniper rifle - for the most part the people who die over and over again are the people that stand still.

I am intrigued. The original Perfect Dark was all about having eighty weapons at once. This adds a nice degree of strategy and thinking to the standard FPS forumla. I especially like the way guns will have gadgets built into them, meaning your choices could be based more upon their alternate, collatoral effects ands you'll have to suffer a subpar weapon.

All of those special abilities were in the first Perfect Dark. They were cool features, but they're definitely not new.

I just hope this one actually ships sometime! Or maybe it'll be on XBox 720?! :D
